Tubbs Charged with Assaulting His Wife

A man has been arrested for assaulting his wife.

54 year old Anthony Eugene Tubbs of Allen’s Chapel Road Smithville is charged with domestic assault. His bond is $3,500 and he will make a court appearance on September 20.

Sheriff Patrick Ray said that on Friday, August 31 a deputy responded to the residence on Allen’s Chapel Road in reference to a 911 hang up call. Upon arrival the officer spoke with Tubbs’ wife who reported that Tubbs grabbed her right hand by the fingers. Tubbs twisted the woman’s arm behind her back causing an injury. The deputy noticed that the woman had a large knot on top of her right hand.

34 year old Anthony Joe Hamilton of Luttrell Avenue, Smithville is charged with having contraband in a penal institution. Hamilton’s bond is $7,500 and his court date is September 20.

Sheriff Ray said that on Sunday, September 2 a correctional officer went to the sally port to meet an officer who had transported Hamilton from the emergency room to the jail for the Tennessee Highway Patrol. During a search, the officer found two syringe needles, a blue pill crusher, and a 22 caliber bullet in the right front pocket of Hamilton’s shorts.

61 year old Gary Lynn Cowan of Hillview Heights, Dowelltown is charged with filing a false report. His bond is $6,500 and he will make a court appearance September 20.

Sheriff Ray said that on Monday, September 3 a deputy went to a residence on Hillview Heights, Dowelltown to serve a state warrant and confronted the homeowner, Cowan. The officer asked Cowan if the man he was looking for was at the residence. Cowan responded “no”. The deputy then spotted the man by a wall inside the home. He made entry and found the man in the kitchen area. Cowan was charged with filing a false report for lying to the officer.




County Fire Department Saves Home from Blaze

Quick response by the DeKalb County Volunteer Fire Department Sunday saved the home of Ashley Adcock on Belk Road.

No one was home at the time but a passerby spotted smoke coming from the eaves of the house and called 911.

County Fire Chief Donny Green said the fire started in a bedroom, apparently from an electrical problem, and spread up the wall into the attic. Firefighters extinguished the blaze before it could spread further.

The Belk, Keltonburg, Short Mountain Highway, Midway and Main Stations responded along with mutal aid backup support from the North Warren Fire Department in Warren County. DeKalb EMS and the Sheriff’s Department were also on the scene.




Valdez Faces 29 Counts of Credit Card Fraud

A 45 year old Smithville woman is charged with 29 counts of fraud after using a credit/debit card that didn’t belong to her for over $1,000 in transactions.

Regina Carol Valdez of Holmes Creek Road, Smithville is under a $43,500 bond and her court date is September 20.

June 22: at Mapco Express for $60 and at the First Bank ATM for $80 and $60

June 23: at Village Market for $6.06 and Mapco Express for $10.63

June 24: at DeKalb Market for $60 and Jewels Market for $11.37 and $6.57, and Walmart for $29.36

June 25: at 10429 Smithville Highway for $140 and $40.

June 26: at Pizza Hut for $47.70, First Bank for $60, Jewels Market for $40, and Dollar General for $13.99

June 27: at Jewels Market for $60 and $6.00, Smithville Market for $8.37, and First Bank ATM for $20

June 28: at First Bank ATM for $40, at Dollar General for $17.34, Kwik N Ezy $6.08, and Village Market for $10

June 29: at First Bank ATM for $80

July 1: at Jewels Market for $17.92

July 4: at First Bank ATM for $20

July 5: at Mapco Express for $5.00

July 11: at Mapco Express for $4.67 and at 825 North Congress Boulevard for $40
