DCHS Senior Golfer Isaac Walker will be moving to the next level once his high school days are over.
Surrounded by his family, coach, and teammates, Walker signed a letter of intent Thursday at DCHS to play Golf for the Cumberland University Phoenix next year.
“He is a man of high character and a very good student. He is also one of the best kept secrets in the middle Tennessee area. I think he is what you would call in baseball a five-tool player. He doesn’t really seem to have any weaknesses at all. We’re very pleased that he has decided to come to Cumberland,” said Cumberland Men and Women Head Golf Coach Richard Williams.
Isaac said he chose Cumberland University because he likes Coach Williams and the school.
“Coach Williams has been nice to me. He came up and visited me this summer. It really meant a lot. He is a really great guy. He has really been nice the whole time. I like the campus and I like what he sees in the program and what his goals are,” said Isaac.
DCHS Tiger Golf Coach John Pryor said Isaac has played all four of his high school years and has become the top golfer in the program, having competed in the state tournament in two of those years.
“He has been the number one golfer here since his freshman year. It’s the culmination of a lot of hard work and he has a lot of talent. I’m really proud of Isaac,” said Coach Pryor.
Isaac said his goal is to return to the state tournament one more time.
“My junior year didn’t go over as well as I wanted to but making it to state my freshman and sophomore years was pretty good. My goal is to win the district and region and place at least in the top five in the state this year,” said Isaac.
Coach Williams is entering his sixth year as head coach of the Phoenix.
“We have won back to back conference championships and gone to back to back national championships. We are really headed in the right direction. Its attributed to having the quality kids we have in the program,” added Coach Williams.
Isaac was joined at the signing Thursday by his parents Misty and Scott, and sister Hannah Walker, his teammates, Coach Williams, and Coach Pryor.

Carter of Smithville. The SUV struck the rear of the bush hog causing both the Kia and tractor to crash into a concrete bridge rail. The SUV came to final rest leaned up against the rail. Neither Self nor Carter were injured.
Self told Trooper Johnson that she didn’t see the tractor in front of her because her windshield was fogged over.
