Looking for a couple of cuddly cats in time for Christmas?
How about “Tiger” and “Goldie”? The WJLE/DeKalb Animal Shelter featured “Pets of the Week.”
“Tiger and Goldie are a bonded pair. Their owner passed away,” said Cathy Bader with the Friends of the DeKalb Animal Shelter. “Tiger and Goldie are about four years old, and they very much need each other to be content. They have been neutered and spayed and are up to date on all their shots. We would love to find them a wonderful home for Christmas. Because they are a bonded pair they will have a special adoption fee,” said Bader.
“They are great cats and are good with other animals. They grew up in a home with dogs. They came in with four other cats and they are good with children,” said shelter volunteer Amy Kitchen.
“If you are interested in adopting Tiger and Goldie, please check out the adoptable pet’s link on our website to fill out an application at https://www.dekalbanimalsheltertn.com/ and we will call you to come in and meet them,” said Bader.
The shelter is open Monday-Friday from 8 to 4 and Saturday from 8 to 12 at 186 Transfer Station Road. Phone 615-597-3647.
Meanwhile the DeKalb Animal Shelter is selling long sleeved Christmas shirts for $23 as a fundraiser. The shirts are available in several sizes.

A THP officer and three others were injured in a Thursday night crash on Allen Ferry Road (State Highway 83).
34-year-old Robert D. Melching, a Tennessee Highway Patrol officer, was among those hurt. He was in a 2022 Ford Explorer, a state vehicle and reportedly on his way home after being on duty. Others injured were 29-year-old Destiny L. Pendergraff and two children, ages 2 and 7, who were in a 2018 GMC Yukon.
According to the THP accident report, Pendergraff was westbound on Highway 83 (Allen Ferry Road) while Melching was traveling eastbound. The report states that Pendergraff attempted to negotiate a left turn onto Golf Club Drive when it crossed into the lane of Melching. The two vehicles collided in the eastbound lane of travel. Pendergraff’s vehicle came to a final rest on the roadway across both travel lanes facing south. Melching’s vehicle came to a final rest along the south side of Highway 83 facing north.
No charges were filed. Pendergraff was not wearing her seatbelt at the time but the children in her vehicle were restrained. Melching was also wearing his seatbelt.
