Reese Williams is the 2022 DCHS Homecoming Queen

The 2022 Homecoming Queen at DeKalb County High School is Reese Williams.

The announcement was made Thursday at DCHS. Homecoming Spirit Week Activities will be next week September 26-30 including a Homecoming Parade on Friday, September 30 from the school to downtown and the DCHS Homecoming Football Game against Livingston Academy Friday night, September 30 at 7 p.m.

A senior, Williams is the 17-year-old daughter of Sarah Williams and Brian and Stephanie Williams.

Williams’ club participation and active memberships are as follows:
Member of the Science and Spanish clubs

Athletic Participation:
DCHS football and basketball cheerleader and DCHS basketball cheer co-captain.

Accomplishments/Awards:
DCHS cheerleader for 2 years; nominated to be an NCA All-American Cheerleader her Junior and Senior year; received the “Best Basketball Cheer” award; All “A” Honor Roll student; and participated in competition cheer for 5 years.

Other information (Church and Community Involvement):
Williams attends the Steven’s Street Baptist Church. Outside of church, Williams said she loves to spend time with her family and friends.

Future Goals: Esthetician

The Homecoming Attendants are:

*Senior Attendant – Hannah Trapp, the 17-year-old daughter of Jeremy and Jenny Trapp.
Hannah is a member of the Spanish club and a 4-year football cheerleader with 9 years of cheer competition.

Accomplishments/Awards:
Two-time NCA All American nominee and was awarded Best Stunts her Sophomore year and Best Dance her Junior year.

She attends Buckner’s Chapel Church and enjoys being with her family and friends.

Future Goals: X-Ray Technician

*Senior Attendant – Carlee Elizabeth West, the 17-year-old daughter of Megan and D.J. Stewart
Carlee is a member of the Spanish club, Literature Club, Service Society, BETA, and FBLA Club. She is also Captain of the Football Cheer Team and Co-Captain of the Basketball Cheer Team.

Accomplishments/Awards:
Best Jumps award winner as a freshman. Awarded NCA All American Cheerleader as Junior and Senior. Received the Pin It Forward award twice this summer at cheer camp. The award is given to an individual who has the quality that makes him or her stand out.

Other information (Church and Community Involvement):
Carlee attends Refuge Church in Smithville. She has been competitive in cheerleading since the age of 6. Carlee likes to spend her free time helping the younger girls in her community develop their cheerleading skills. Carlee is currently taking dual enrollment classes through Motlow State Community College. After high school she plans to attend Motlow State and then transfer to Tennessee Tech University where she will be majoring in special education.

Future Goals: Special Education Teacher

*Junior Attendant- Sadie Anne Moore, the 17-year-old daughter of Chris and Holly Moore.

Moore’s club participation and active memberships are as follows:
FCA member and President and member of Science and Spanish Clubs and Service Society

Accomplishments/Awards:
DCHS football film manager for 3 years.

Other information (Church and Community Involvement):
Sadie attends the Smithville Church of God, where her dad is pastor. Sadie also plays the piano for her church and is active in the youth group.

Future Goals: High School English Teacher.

*Sophomore Attendant- Ansley Caroline Crook, the 15-year-old daughter of Jacob and Kim Crook

Caroline is a member of the FBLA, BETA, FCA and Science Clubs and is a DCHS football cheerleader

A DeKalb County Landfill employee has been terminated and charged with theft and fraudulent use of a debit card for allegedly using a county government fuel card for personal use. The theft allegedly occurred multiple times from June 21, 2021 to September 11, 2022 totaling almost $3,000.

54-year-old Mark Randall (Truck) Robinson of Dry Creek Road, Smithville will be in General Sessions Court October 6 on charges of theft of property over $2,500 and fraudulent use of a debit card. He is under an $8,500 bond. The case was investigated by the Smithville Police Department. Robinson was charged this morning (Friday) and arrived at the Sheriff’s Department for booking accompanied by police officers.

According to the arrest warrant, “Mark Robinson did use the DeKalb County Government gas card to fill his personal vehicle with gasoline. Mr. Robinson was employed by the DeKalb County landfill. Mr Robinson used the card multiple times. The first offense was on June 21, 2021 to the last offense September 11, 2022. The total amount of gasoline taken was $2,962.66. Mr. Robinson did not have consent to use the gas card for personal use. This offense did occur in Smithville,” the warrant stated.

County Mayor Matt Adcock said that when he learned something was amiss he contacted the Smithville Police Department to conduct an investigation.

“It came to my attention on a fuel expense report recently that there were (fuel) charges made after hours. I thought that to be suspicious so I contacted the Smithville Police Department, and they sent over an officer who filled out a police report. Through that investigation I was later notified by the Smithville Police Department that this (county) employee was Mark Robinson,” said County Mayor Adcock.

According to Adcock, Robinson allegedly used a county fuel card with a PIN number which had been assigned to a former landfill employee, who had quit work after the August election.

“Our county fuel cards are kept in the glove box of the vehicle (used by the employees). Each county employee has his own PIN number that they can use for that card. That’s how we track which employee is making transactions on that card. He (Robinson) was caught using the PIN number of the former employee,” Adcock continued.

“When we noticed on the expense report that the fuel transactions on this card were occurring after hours and with the PIN number issued to the former employee we knew something was wrong,” said County Mayor Adcock.

Video evidence apparently confirmed that Robinson was the person making the transactions.

After the police investigation was complete, Adcock said he terminated Robinson.

“The incident was also reported to the state comptroller’s office which began an audit stemming from the case. “By state law, I had to notify the state comptroller within five days of the notice of fraud and then they come and audit us. They conducted the audit and had the same finding which will be on our annual audit report,” said Adcock.

To guard against this from possibly happening again by others, Adcock said he plans to work with the county attorney and county commission to develop a uniform policy for fuel card use as recommended by the state comptroller. Such a policy would most likely specify that the fuel cards are to remain in the county vehicles, that the employees only use the PIN numbers assigned to them for specific vehicles, and that the mileage be recorded with each use. Those who violate such a policy would be terminated.

The DCHS Tigers will renew their border rivalry with the Cannon County Lions tonight (Friday) at Woodbury.

Kick-off will be at 7 p.m. and WJLE will have LIVE coverage.

The Tigers enter the game at 4-1 overall while the Lions are 1-4.

Tiger Coach Steve Trapp gave his team good marks in the win last week at Cumberland County.

“I was super proud of how we started the game offensively and defensively. We had a couple of hiccups but I thought our guys played really hard. Our defense held their own and offensively we made some big plays, and it was good to see that,” said Coach Trapp.

Tiger running back Colby Barnes had a breakout game with 24 carries and 272 yards rushing and 4 touchdowns.

“It was a big night for Colby,” said Coach Trapp. “He has really been toting the rock carrying this team the last couple of weeks and really all year. He had 30 carries the week before. We’re going to make it run through him. He is doing it inside the tackles and outside the tackles. He has caught balls out of the backfield, and he has made big plays on defense. He is having a really special season for us this year,” Coach Trapp said.

Kudōs from the coach also went to his young quarterback Jordan Parker, who threw for two touchdowns in the game last week, and to his offensive line and defense.

“JP (Parker) is getting more comfortable each and every day. I thought he stepped his game up last week and I am proud of how he is leading the offense,” Coach Trapp explained.

“As for the defense, we’re hanging our hat on running the football and controlling the clock somewhat and our defense is giving us more opportunities to do that with how they are playing. Our defense has given up nothing other than when we have shot ourselves in the foot. We have misaligned a time or two and our offense has put our defense in a short field situation at times but when we line up right, we are very tough on defense,” added Coach Trapp.

Although Cannon County has struggled in terms of wins, Coach Trapp knows they will bring their “A” game against the Tigers.

“Every game they are making explosive plays on offense. Their quarterback is very capable of running it as well as their running backs and one of them has had a 50–60-yard run. They have also had some big pass plays. They are doing a lot more shotgun this year than in the past so we’ll have to make sure our defense continues to be in the right spots and play the way they have been doing,” said Coach Trapp.
