Early Voting Begins Wednesday for November Elections (View Sample Ballot Here)

Early Voting begins Wednesday, October 16 through October 31 for the November 5th Tennessee General and Presidential Elections.

Sample Ballot

Voters who have moved within DeKalb County or have had a name change since the last time they voted can update their registration online at GoVoteTN.com or call the DeKalb County election office at 615-597-4146 by no later than October 30. By making sure your registration is up to date, you can shorten the time you will need to spend at your polling location.

On the ballot will be the Presidential election as well as races for the U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives (District 6), Tennessee Senate (District 16), and Tennessee House of Representatives (District 40).

In DeKalb County, two referendums will be on the ballot regarding a $50 wheel tax and the issuance of general obligation bonds in an amount not to exceed $65 million for a judicial center and jail.

In Smithville at the courthouse, early voting times will be as follows:

Mondays: 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Tuesdays: 12 noon until 6 p.m.
Wednesdays: 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Thursdays: 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Fridays: 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Saturdays: 9 a.m. until 12 noon

In Alexandria at the Sandlin Building on the Fairgrounds, early voting times will be as follows:

Tuesday, October 22: 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Tuesday, October 29: 12 noon until 6 p.m.

An argument between a woman and man resulted in a stabbing at a residence in Dowelltown Friday.

43-year-old Christie Dawn Bouldin of Sparta is charged with aggravated assault. Her bond is $65,000 and she will be in court October 24.

Chief Deputy Brian Williams of the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department said that on October 11 deputies responded to South Mill Street for a stabbing. Upon arrival, officers spoke to the victim (a man) who had numerous stab wounds on his upper body and head. According to the victim, Bouldin had stabbed him several times with a tire punch. The man suffered severe injuries and he was life flighted.  Bouldin then fled the scene but was taken into custody Saturday morning.

According to the report, the deputies made contact with the victim who had an abundance of blood coming from his head area. The officers asked the victim what happened. He stated that he and Bouldin were in a bedroom when she began arguing with him. He said she knocked him down, jumped on top of him and stabbed him all over with a tire punch. The man said Bouldin then ran out the front door. The victim then went to a neighbor’s home where they called 911.

A ninth grader at DCHS prepared a winning essay in tribute to his sister and brother-in-law to earn them the honor of “Parents or Guardians of the Month”.

Christian and Bobby Blackford have received a certificate from the school and a gift card for a meal at Twisted Oaks.

“Kevin Murphy wrote an essay about why his sister and brother-in-law are deserving of this parent/guardian of the month award,” said Assistant DCHS Principal Seth Willoughby.

“They both work very hard to keep me and my two little nieces happy and they stop at nothing to make sure we have everything we need,” said Murphy.

Kevin came to live with Bobby, his sister and her husband Christian after the recent death of their mother.

“I’m proud of him. He wanted to do it (essay) and he succeeded and he won. He has been through a lot recently with the passing of our mom. He came to live with us in April and he has been doing amazing in school and that’s all I could ask for. I am really proud of him,” said Bobby.

The Blackford’s have two daughters of their own in the household along with Kevin.

Christian works at Shiroki and does roofing for a living. Bobby is a stay-at-home mom.

Kevin’s favorite subject at school is English and in his spare time at home he likes playing video games.
