DCHS Tigers to Begin State Football Play-Off Run Tonight (Listen to WJLE’s Tiger Talk Program Here)

November 5, 2021
By: Dwayne Page

The DCHS Tigers will begin their State Play-Off run tonight (Friday, November 5) on the road at Ooltewah in the Chattanooga area to face the East Hamilton Hurricanes.

https://www.wjle.com/tiger-talk/

Kick-off will be at 7 p.m. (Eastern Daylight Time) or 6 p.m. (Smithville Time). WJLE will have LIVE play-by-play coverage with John Pryor and Luke Willoughby. Tiger Talk airs at 5:30 p.m. featuring Tiger Coach Steve Trapp and Tiger football players Tyler Estes, Ean Jones, and Josh May. Coach to Coach will air at 4:30 p.m. today (Friday).

The Tigers (6-4, 3-2) finished the season in third place in Class 4A Region 4. The Hurricanes (8-2, 5-1) are the second place team in Class 4A Region 3.

The Hurricanes this year have beaten Ooltewah 33-13, Portland 42-34, East Ridge 49-0, Sequoyah 70-0, Paul Bryant, Alabama 1-0 forfeit win, Chattanooga Central 44-27, Soddy Daisy 35-0, and Hixson 45-0. Their losses have been to McMinn County 30-29 and to Red Bank 21-20.

DeKalb County’s wins have been over Smith County 33-14, Cumberland County 35-10, Cannon County 49-7, Livingston Academy 45-15, Warren County 28-0 , and Stone Memorial 21-20. Their losses have been to Macon County 32-29, Watertown 38-20, Upperman 24-14, and Goodpasture 21-13.

Coach Trapp sizes up tonight game and the Tigers’ opponent East Hamilton.

“Formation wise it’s a lot of the stuff we do or are capable of doing so as far as our scout team it’s a little easier for them to reproduce what we have seen on tape out of those guys but they definitely have some playmakers. They have the ability to throw the football and to run the football. We have been challenged a little bit with the passing game but I like how our guys have prepared for that this week. Of course it still starts with stopping the run. If you don’t stop the run the passing game won’t matter but our defense has been playing well and offensively we just have to clean things up. East Hamilton has been consistent with a four man front and they mix up some things. Sometimes it makes you wonder why they are playing what they are playing versus certain formations but they are always in the right spot with the right fit so there will be a lot of man behind it but they will also do some cover three or rotate one back and do cover two so really all the looks you could possibly get they can possibly throw at you but our guys have done well with it all week in practice and hopefully it pays off for us tonight,” said Coach Trapp.

Fans are urged to purchase tickets in advance. All advance tickets for the game are being sold via the GoFan digital ticket platform https://gofan.co/app/school/TN8592 for $8 each.. Any tickets sold outside the GoFan self-service platform will be $10 each.
