Two persons have filed the necessary paperwork to run as a write-in candidate for Mayor of Alexandria in the Municipal Election on Thursday, August 2.

Incumbent Mayor Bennett Armstrong will be a write-in candidate for re-election but he will face a challenge from write-in candidate Donna Davis.

No one qualified by the April 5 filing date to get their name on the ballot to run for Mayor.

Meanwhile only one candidate qualified to run for alderman in Alexandria, Lloyd Dyer. Three full term alderman seats are to be filled along with two unexpired vacant alderman positions in the August 2 election.

“In order for write-in ballots to be counted, a form must be filed no later than noon on the 50th day before the election with the local election commission office,” said Administrator of Elections Dennis Stanley.
