For the first time ever the DeKalb County Board of Education will meet by a video conference Thursday night, April 23 in accordance with the Governor’s order for social distancing due to COVID-19.
Governmental bodies in Tennessee have been temporarily allowed to conduct meetings by telephone or video conference to advance the public health goal of limiting face-to-face meetings to slow the spread of the coronavirus.
Under Governor Bill Lee’s Executive Order No. 16, government meetings may be conducted by electronic means if necessary until May 18 to protect the public health, safety and welfare of all Tennesseans from the outbreak of the coronavirus. Order No. 16 also stipulates such meetings must remain open and accessible to the public. If the government is unable to provide live public access despite reasonable efforts, the governing body must make a clear audio or video recording available to the public as soon as practicable following the meeting and not more than two business days after the meeting.
The regular monthly meeting of the school board by video conference will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 23 and will be broadcast LIVE for the public to hear on WJLE. A work session will be held prior to the meeting also by video conference at 6 p.m.
