A Carthage woman was injured after her car left the road and almost plunged into a creek Thursday afternoon on Highway 96 (Lancaster Road) near Center Hill Dam.
According to Trooper T.J. Withers of the Tennessee Highway Patrol, 68 year old Deborah Powell was traveling east in a 2016 Chevrolet Cruze when she failed to negotiate a curve and left the road. The car went into a ditch, over an embankment, and almost into a creek before coming to a stop.
Members of the DeKalb County Volunteer Fire Department’s Rescue and Extrication team removed her from the vehicle. Powell was then transported by ambulance to the hospital. Her injuries were not believed to have been life threatening. The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department and US Army Corps of Engineers Rangers were also on the scene.
