The City of Smithville has a new airport manager.
During Monday night’s regular monthly meeting, the aldermen hired Caitlin Renee Sanders to take over the part-time position, succeeding Mike Carpenter who recently announced his resignation.
Sanders’ hiring came upon the recommendation of Roth Terrell, Chairman of the city’s airport advisory board.
Terrell said Sanders was among three applicants whom the board considered for the job.
Sanders is a student at MTSU where she is enrolled in the aerospace administration program. She is seeking a bachelor’s degree and is expected to graduate in May, 2022.
Terrell said Sanders’ studies will not interfere with her responsibilities at the airport.
Meanwhile the aldermen adopted an ordinance on second and final reading following a public hearing to rezone property belonging to Tracy Foutch at the corner of Miller and Foster Road from I-1 Industrial to R-2 residential for future housing development. No one spoke either for or against during the public hearing.
The aldermen also adopted an ordinance on first reading to rezone property at 415 Juniper Lane from R-2 residential to C-1 commercial. The property belongs to Rebecca Ford Little. This lot joins two others in the neighborhood already zoned commercial. Second and final reading action will come following a public hearing at the June meeting.
Bobby Pinegar is coming out of retirement to work for the city again. Pinegar was hired by the aldermen to serve as a part time employee at Green Brook Park working Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Pinegar formerly worked several years as the city’s sewer plant supervisor.
