The City of Smithville can now proceed with major repairs to the municipal swimming pool and purchase new portable radios for the fire department thanks to action taken by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen Monday night.

During the regular monthly meeting, the aldermen voted to adopt on second and final reading an ordinance amending the 2023-24 budget by a total of $215,000 to fund the projects.

A total of $115,000 will be spent to purchase a total of 25 Harris XL 400 Extreme fire rated portable radios for the Smithville Fire Department. The new digital radios are meant to keep firefighters safer with reliable communication while inside a burning building battling a fire.

Meanwhile, $100,000 is being allocated for repairs and rehabilitation of the city swimming pool.

A Cut Above Outdoors, LLC in Cookeville has been contracted by the city to do the repairs for $95,700.
