The DeKalb County Volunteer Fire Department awarded the Clyde Thomas Family with its highest honor, Honorary Lifetime Membership at its January awards banquet.
Jan Thomas, daughter of the late Clyde and Bobbye Page Thomas, made a generous donation to the Fire Department for new additions to its training grounds. The Fire Department intends to add new training props that will enable firefighter training to be more prepared when arriving on scene.
“We are so appreciative of this donation from the Clyde Thomas Family to better prepare our firefighters to respond to the needs of our community,” said Chief Donny Green. “Training is extremely important in the fire service and we have maintained a high level of training in our department over the past 15 years. This donation will enable us to take our training to a new level by providing live scenarios to train and view multiple scenarios that we may encounter as we respond to calls. We are grateful for this donation and Ms. Jan’s support of the DeKalb County Fire Department.”
“It is an honor to be able to support the DeKalb County Fire Department to enhance their training capabilities,” said Jan Thomas. “My father (Clyde Thomas) was a true servant leader and it is a blessing to be able to continue his legacy in support of firefighter training. He would be so proud to see his legacy continue to better equip individuals who serve our communities.”
Once the training facility is completed, the department will hold a ribbon-cutting and open house to be announced at a later date. There will be a plaque at the Main Station of the Fire Department to display the support from the Clyde Thomas Family.
