The DCHS basketball teams are off to a great start after winning at Van Buren County Tuesday night.
The Lady Tigers opened with a 65 to 31 victory while the Tigers notched a 51 to 48 win.
In the girls game, DeKalb County trailed 4 to 3 after the 1st period but outscored Van Buren County 26 to 7 in the 2nd period to take a 29 to 11 lead by halftime. The Lady Tigers continued to dominate in the second half outscoring Van Buren County 24 to 9 in the third period for a 53 to 20 advantage heading into the fourth period. DC went on to win 65 to 31 outscoring Van Buren County 12 to 11 in the final frame.
The Lady Tigers had four players in double figures including Emme Colwell with 13, Mya Ruch and Megan Cantrell each with 12, and Kadee Ferrell with 10. Kenzie France and Megan Walker each with 5 and Madison Martin and Summer Crook each with 4.
The Tigers jumped out to a 15 to 3 lead but held on for a 25 to 24 halftime advantage as the Eagles outscored them 21 to 10 in the 2nd period. DC was outscored 15 to 13 in the 3rd period and trailed 39 to 38 with one period to go but in the 4th quarter the Tigers pulled ahead outgunning Van Buren County 13 to 9 to secure the 51 to 48 victory.
Brayden Antoniak scored 15 followed by Luke Jenkins with 9, Dallas Cook 8, Michael Elswick 7, Dakota White 5, Jordan Young and Elishah Ramos each with 3 and Stetson Agee 1.
DeKalb County will host Pickett County Saturday night in Smithville starting with the girls game at 6 p.m.
