DCHS beats Cannon County

The DeKalb County High School basketball teams defeated their border rivals from Cannon County Tuesday night in Smithville.

The Lady Tigers won 68 to 39 while the Tigers knocked off the Lions 67 to 50. Back on January 8, the Lady Tigers beat the Lionettes at Woodbury 54 to 43 but the Tigers lost to the Lions that night 55 to 51.

The Lady Tigers got off to a good start Tuesday night leading 18 to 11 after the 1st period, 41 to 19 at halftime, and 57 to 31 after the 3rd period before going on to win handily 68 to 39.

Ella VanVranken and Kadee Ferrell each scored 23 while Madison Martin had 14, Cadee Griffith 5, Ally Fuller with 2 and Summer Crook with 1.

In the boys game the Tigers jumped out to a 20 to 10 lead by the end of the 1st period and led 33 to 27 at halftime and 46 to 36 after the 3rd period before before notching a 67 to 50 win.

Evan Jones scored 30 points followed by Elishah Ramos with 13, Jordan Young 9, Brayden Antoniak 6, Conner Close 5,  Stetson Agee 3, and Luke Jenkins 1.

The Tigers improve to 8-11 (4-7 district) while the Lady Tigers are now 9-13 (3-8 district).

DeKalb County travels to Livingston Academy Saturday, February 6. The girls’ game tips off at 2 p.m. followed by the boys game. WJLE plans LIVE coverage.
