DCHS Tigers Headed to State Play-Offs After Grounding Jets 42-0

The DeKalb County Tigers grounded the Cumberland County Jets 42-0 Friday night in Smithville and will advance to the State Play-Offs next week.

With the win on Senior Night the Tigers conclude the regular season at 3-7 and 1-3 in Region 3 Class 4A finishing in 4th place.  The Tigers’ opponent in the 1st round of the play-offs will be Maplewood, the 1st place team from Region 4.

The Tigers scored their first touchdown of the game with 6:25 left in the 1st period on a 4 yard run by Desmond Nokes, capping a 64 yard drive. Andrew Fuson tacked on the extra point and DeKalb County led 7-0.

The next score came with 55 seconds left in the 1st period on a 15 yard touchdown run by David Bradford, completing a 62 yard drive. Fuson added the extra point and the Tigers led 14-0.

Bradford scored on a 23 yard touchdown run with 2:54 left in the 2nd period capping a 99 yard drive. Fuson booted the extra point and DeKalb County led 21-0.

The Tigers tried to extend their lead before halftime but a 41 yard field goal attempt by Fuson was no good.

Tre Ladet scored on a 1 yard touchdown run with 6:33 left in the 3rd period. Fuson’s extra point was good and DeKalb County led 28-0.

After recovering a Cumberland County fumble on a kick-off at the Jets 34 yard line, the Tigers mounted another scoring drive. Ladet took it in from 7 yards out with 4:45 left in the 3rd period and Fuson’s extra point gave the Tigers a 35-0 lead.

With 1:37 left in the 4th period Grayson Redmon caught a 12 yard touchdown pass from Quarterback Axel Aldino. Fuson added the extra point and the Tigers won 42-0.
