After more than two decades DeKalb West School custodian Dorothy Duggin has decided to call it quits. She retired from her position earlier this year and was honored at a reception today (May 20) at the school.
“Everybody, I love you all,” Duggin said to employees at the reception. “I had a great 20 ½ years out here, but now I’m having fun retiring!” she exclaimed jumping up and down.
“When I started here, [my daughter] Kathy was just in 3rd grade. I got to see her all the way from 3rd grade through 8th grade. I loved the teachers, I love the kids. The kids were so very special to me, and they always will be.”
Educational Assistant Robbie Frazier also said her final good-bye to her co-workers. Frazier says she worked in and out of the school system for over 20 years including three years in the kitchen, eight years as an E.A. between DWS and Northside Elementary School and as a substitute for 12 years. Frazier enjoyed working with the children and even took on the playful role of Ms. Giggle Belly at some school events.
“I’m going to work in my garden, and I’ll probably start sewing again,” Frazier said of her retirement. “I’ll have something to do. It’ll be good, but I’ll miss it a lot. “
