A Friends Group has been established in support of the DeKalb Animal Shelter.

Friends of the DeKalb Animal Shelter is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide funding for the adequate welfare and care of shelter animals, to better educate the public on matters concerning animal welfare, and to encourage community involvement and support of the DeKalb Animal Shelter.

“Our Friends Group helps the shelter with funding for low cost spay and neuter services and bills for animals that need medical attention. We also donate pet food to the food bank here,” said Bill Erdman, Vice President of the Friends Group.

Fund raising events are scheduled starting this fall including a “Hogs for Dogs and Cats Too” Poker Run on Saturday, October 10 with registration and check in at 11 a.m. at Twisted Oaks on Highway 70 across from Bert Driver Nursery. Kickstands up at 12:30 p.m. with three stops along the route of the ride. A barbeque meal and other events will be held in conjunction with the ride at Twisted Oaks.

Participants may pre-register at EventBrite.com through September 20. The cost is $20 per rider which includes a t-shirt. Events are open to all. You do not have to ride to attend.

An on-site pet adoption event will also be held with a silent auction for a stay at a Center Hill Lake Chalet, Pontoon rental, raffles, and other giveaways.
