Central dispatch received the call at 11:51 a.m.
County Fire Chief Donny Green said Tracy Veach lived at the residence but he was not at home at the time. Veach was renting the home from Loyce Holcomb.
Green said the fire was well underway by the time it was reported and firefighters could not save the home or its contents. They were able to keep the blaze from spreading to a truck parked near the home.
Members of the Short Mountain Highway, Midway, Belk, and Blue Springs stations of the DeKalb County Volunteer Fire Department responded along with the tanker truck. The Smithville Volunteer Fire Department was called to provide back up support with a fire truck and city firefighters.
No one was injured.
