Morris Faces Charges in Two Year old Vehicle Burglary

A man believed to be responsible for breaking into a truck almost two years ago has been arrested in the case.

47 year old Stanley William Morris, Jr. of Oak Street, Smithville is charged with vandalism, burglary, and theft of property. His bond is $10,000 and he will make a court appearance on October 11

Sheriff Patrick Ray said that on November 9, 2016 Morris and another person broke into a 1998 Nissan Frontier. Entry was made by breaking out the glass window.  A machete and  a fold up chair were stolen from the truck.

The case was investigated by a Sheriff’s Department Detective.

53 year old Tony Lee Petty, Sr. of Poplar Place, Smithville is charged with domestic assault. His bond is $3,500 and he will make a court appearance on October 18.

Sheriff Ray said that on September 30 a deputy responded to a residence on Lincoln Street concerning a domestic incident that occurred on Poplar Place. Upon arrival the victim reported that she and her boyfriend, Petty had gotten into an argument and that Petty had hit her in the face causing swelling, a black eye, and a busted nose. She said he also threw her into a wall. Petty was placed under arrest.

37 year old Julian Guerrero Soto of Meridian Drive, Smithville is charged with a 2nd offense of driving under the influence. His bond is $3,000 and he will make a court appearance on October 11.

Sheriff Ray said that on September 29 a deputy was patrolling on Sparta Highway when he noticed a red truck failing to maintain his lane of travel. The truck crossed the center yellow line several times. The officer conducted a traffic stop and spoke to the driver, Soto. He had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his person and his eyes were red and watery. Soto was unsteady on his feet and he performed poorly on field sobriety tasks.
