A twelfth grader at DCHS prepared a winning essay in tribute to her mother for the honor of “Parent of the Month” for October.
Ronnijo Shelton received a certificate from the school and a gift card for a meal at Kilgore’s Restaurant.
“Kerstian Strawser wrote an essay about why her mother is deserving of this parent of the month award,” said Assistant DCHS Principal Seth Willoughby.
“I think my mom deserves it,” said Strawser. “I love her and she is a really great woman. She goes out of her way to give 110% in everything she does and she is really good at cooking food. Every meal she makes is really good. Mom is really a sweet woman and she has raised me to be the woman I am today. I love her,” said Kerstian.
“I am overjoyed and blessed beyond measure,” said Kerstian’s mom Ronnijo when told she was receiving this recognition. “I knew absolutely nothing about this. It was a complete surprise. I couldn’t ask for a better or more respectful child than Kerstian,” said Shelton.
And when asked about her favorite dish, Ronnijo answered “Chicken and Dumplings”
Shelton is a McDonalds Restaurant manager.
Kerstian is a member of the FCCLA, FBLA,and Service Society clubs at the high school. After graduation Kerstian said her goal is to be a practical nurse and maybe a volunteer firefighter.
