The L.B.J. & C. Smithville Head Start Center will be hosting an Open House on Monday, October 21 from 1-4 p.m.
Special fun activities will be available for the kids including inflatables and face painting and refreshments will be served.
“We will have vendors here with booths and displays to provide families information including a Wildlife Museum (lean about local wildlife), Blood Assurance Bloodmobile (donate blood), Imagination Library ( sign up for free books), Local Fire Department (explore the fire apparatus), TENNderCare (information on insurance),CCR &R (child development resources), Health Department/Children Special Services, (get your flu shot), ACTS (mental health resources), Agriculture Extension (health nutrition), TN Reconnect (education resources), Health Connect (health information), Fast Pace Urgent Care (medical resources), Genesis House (domestic violence resource) Stephens Center/Healthier Beginnings (information for new teenage mothers), Woodmen of the World (children fingerprinting),T.O.P.S (resources for migrant workers), TN Voices for children, Cotton Candy Booth, Face Painting, Prizes, Bounce House, Popcorn Booth, and the DeKalb Animal Coalition (adopt a pet),” said Cathy Shehane, Director of the Smithville Head Start Center.
The staff and parents are looking forward to showing their center and the children’s arts and crafts.
“We serve four classrooms of 74 three and four year old children with school readiness skills to prepare them for kindergarten. Our staff consists of 14 people,” said Shehane.
Head Start provides children with activities that help them grow mentally, socially, emotionally, and physically.
“We invite families and the community, including public officials, business, and civic leaders to stop by during our open house to see what we do,” added Shehane.
The center is located at 118 Kimberly Lane.
