Smithville Elementary students and families had a SUPER time at the Superhero Stream Family Engagement night on Thursday, October 6. The building was decorated throughout with superheroes and AMAZING student work. There were a variety of activities for the families to participate in, as well as a variety of community heroes that set up tables with information and goodies to share with the students and their families. Students were encouraged to dress as their favorite superhero for this fun, educational event.

Students had a wide selection of activities to participate in throughout the night, in addition to being able to visit the Scholastic book fair in the library, which was also open for family night. Some of the activities that students were able to choose from included bat spray art, a book walk, playing in spiderman slime, making a superhero fly, and building skyscrapers. Students also enjoyed choosing their own fruit to create a fruit cup snack, and climbing the wall like Spiderman in the gym. Students were able to make guesses at the estimation station, with the closest guess in several categories winning a prize.

Smithville Elementary would like to thank the following community heroes for coming out to make this event a success: Smithville Police Department, Dekalb County Sheriff Department, Smithville City Fire Department, TWRA, First Bank, Dekalb EMS, April McCormick, Elise Driver. SES would also like to thank the Smithville Church of Christ for letting them borrow tables.
