The DCHS Tigers and Lady Tigers defended the den Thursday night beating the visiting Macon County teams in Smithville. The final scores were 85 to 80 in the girls game and 68 to 49 for the boys.
It was the second time within a month that DC had gotten the better of their district rivals. In the last meeting on January 6, the Tigers defeated Macon County at Lafayette 69 to 48 and the Lady Tigers won 54 to 39. The Macon County Tigers are 5-21 (0-10) and the girls from Lafayette are 7-17 (1-9)
The DeKalb County Tigers improve to 12-12 (4-6) while the Lady Tigers go to 14-12 (4-6).
The regular season comes to a close next week for DeKalb County as the Tigers and Lady Tigers travel to Cumberland County Tuesday night, February 7 and then conclude the campaign at home against Upperman on Senior Night, February 10. Action begins each night at 6 p.m. and WJLE will have LIVE coverage.
In the Thursday night games, the DC Lady Tigers led 26 to 15 after the 1st period, 47 to 32 at halftime, and 63 to 49 after the 3rd period before claiming an 85 to 80 victory.
Ella VanVranken scored 28, Madison Martin 22, Tess Barton 12, Avery Agee 11, Chloe VanVranken 9, and Ella Hendrixson with 3.
The DC Tigers held a 20 to 14 lead over Macon County after the 1st period and took a 35 to 27 advantage into halftime. DC led 58 to 34 after the 3rd period and went on to win 68 to 49.
Zack Birmingham scored 23 followed by Conner Close 17, Stetson Agee and Elishah Ramos each with 9, Alex Antoniak and Jon Hendrix each with 3, and Seth Fuson and Owen Snipes each with 2.
