Both teams are 1-0 with season opening victories last week. The Tigers came from behind at home to knock off the Warren County Pioneers 35 to 34 while the Owls beat their in-county rival Gordonsville 27-7.

Tiger Coach Steve Trapp said he is proud of the way his team fought overcoming mistakes to get the victory last week.

“There were a lot of moments in that game especially late when they could have folded the tent. We were down 14 points with 6 minutes and 40 seconds left to go and had just got through fumbling a kick after a good defensive stand so there were a lot of things that happened but in that moment they just kept battling one play at a time. They executed some critical plays. We had to pick up a couple of fourth downs and a big third down in that last drive and then to have the fortunate opportunity to seal the deal at the end. It was a very exciting game and I am really proud of how they played and hung in there. How they prepared. Yes, there were moments we didn’t like but hopefully we will have all those cleaned up this week,” said Coach Trapp.

The Tigers have won the last three meetings with the Owls but this year’s Smith County team may be bigger and better than some of the past.

Coach Trapp understands the rivalry with Smith County and knows his team must be prepared if it is to get its fourth straight win over the Owls.

“Its goes way back and even when I played we were up against Smith County every year. Its always a good atmosphere over there in the hole. They are a good football team and they definitely kept getting better each and every week after we played them last year and they made a good run there at the end in the play-offs. All of the names on the field for them will be the same ones that were there last year so they have a lot of experience back and a lot of size and good athletes so its going to be a battle tonight but what more could you ask for,” added Coach Trapp.
