The DCHS Tigers will close out the regular football season tonight (Thursday) hosting the undefeated and Class 4A #1-ranked Upperman Bees in Smithville.

The Bees (9-0) clinched the Region 4-4A football regular-season championship last week with a win over Stone Memorial while the Tigers (6-3) will wrap up their campaign tonight win or lose without a 14th consecutive post season appearance.

“For me personally its frustrating. It’s something we hang our hat on in January,” said Coach Steve Trapp. “We have team goals and that’s the first thing we talk about is to continue to get into the playoffs. We have been able to say that for the last 13 years but we also know we can never take it for granted. This is a good football team and they have battled and worked hard but unfortunately this year we didn’t do what it took to get in the playoffs,” said Coach Trapp.

Tonight, the Bees come to town.

“Its not like they do a whole lot of different things, but they execute, “Coach Trapp explained. “They have branched out and added some things especially offensively and they have a lot of weapons. They do a good job. They typically don’t get themselves in a bad situation as far as down and distance. They rely on their running game out of their running back but also their quarterback but they do have the capability of throwing it with explosive receivers on the outside. Defensively, again its not something that changes a whole lot from formation to formation but there’s a lot of discipline and execution. They are just good at what they do,” said Coach Trapp.
