Warren County Prevails over Tigers and Lady Tigers

A week of highs and lows for the DCHS basketball teams.

After losing at Livingston Academy Tuesday night and winning at Macon County Friday night, the road weary Tigers and Lady Tigers lost to their Warren County border rivals at McMinnville Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Pioneers completed a season sweep of the Lady Tigers winning 70 to 28 after beating DC 78 to 53 in the first round at Smithville on November 25. The Pioneers meanwhile avenged a 68 to 66 loss to the Tigers in the previous meeting at Smithville winning at home Saturday 62 to 47.

With the losses, the Lady Tigers drop to 9-8 overall while the Tiger slip to 9-7.

This week DeKalb County returns home for two nights of basketball first against Watertown on Tuesday night, January 10 and then Cumberland County on Friday night, January 13. WJLE will have LIVE coverage each night starting with the girls games at 6 p.m. followed by the boys contests.

The Lady Tigers kept it close in the 1st period trailing 20 to 16 but by halftime Warren County opened up a 44 to 25 lead and then held DeKalb County to only three points in the entire second half. The Lady Pioneers led 64 to 28 after the 3rd period and won the game 70 to 28.

Six Lady Tigers got on the scoreboard but none were in double digits. Ella VanVranken scored 9 points followed by Avery Agee with 6, Chloe VanVranken 5, Dare Collins 4, and Madison Martin and Camryn Branin each with 2.

The Tigers edged the Pioneers 17 to 16 after the 1st period but the game was tied at 26 by halftime. The Pioneers opened up a 42 to 30 lead after the 3rd period and went onto claim a 62 to 47 win.

Conner Close scored 16 for the Tigers followed by Elishah Ramos with 13, Zack Birmingham 7, Stetson Agee 6, Jon Hendrix 3, and Robert Wheeler with 2.
