Irene Gibbs Jennings

Irene Gibbs Jennings age 87 of Hermitage passed away Thursday afternoon, January 28, 2021 at St. Thomas Midtown in Nashville. She was born July 30, 1933 to her parents, the late William Carl and Geneva Walden Gibbs. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela Reed; 2 sisters, Margie Reynolds and Ruby Reynolds and 2 brothers, William Carl Gibbs, Jr and Danny Gibbs. Mrs. Irene was a member of the Neely’s Bend Baptist Church and retired from Gibson Guitar. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, James Jennings of Hermitage; 2 daughters, Frances (Chet) Christanson of Greenbrier, TN, Angela Turcotte of Nashville; 3 grandchildren, Teresa (Roscoe) Brogdon, Tracey Bogle and Julie Petty; 8 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, DeEtte Shelton of Dowelltown, Jewell (Bobby) Ponder of Smithville and Alma (Jerry) Montgomery of Dowelltown; brother, Billy Gibbs of Dowelltown and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 1 PM Monday February 1, 2021 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Gordon Donahoe officiating and burial will follow in Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday 2 PM until 6 PM and Monday 10:AM until the time of the service at 1 PM. Due to Covid-19 and social distancing guidelines, we ask for the health and safety of everyone that you please exercise social distancing. The funeral home chapel is marked off to respect these guidelines and allow 100-125 for the service. The family request that anyone attending visitation or the funeral to wear a mask. Katherine Sue Brown

January 31, 2021

Katherine Sue Brown age 56 of Dowelltown passed away Friday evening, January 29, 2021 at her residence. She was born February 12, 1964 in Bethesda, Maryland to her parents, the late Chris Cervas and Julia Butler. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Joyce Cervas, Dana Yerge and Tresea Long. Katherine was a Christian and worked at Opryland for 18 years. She is survived by 3 children, Vance Wesley Dunn of Old Hickory, Brittany Nicole Dunn of Dowelltown and Julie Victoria Brown of Hendersonville; 3 grandchildren, Baylee, Joel and Kasidee; 1 brother, Burton Yerge of Nashville and 1 sister, Pam Kinnard of Mt. Juliet. The family has honored Katherine’s request to be cremated and a private service will be held. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




James Morris “Jim” Davies

James Morris “Jim” Davies age 77 passed away at his residence in Smithville on Friday morning January 29, 2021. He was born October 10, 1943 to his parents the late Charles Edwin “Ham” and Lillian Helena Davies. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, Walter Lee Davies and Charles Barry Davies; niece, Whitney Layne Scott. He was a Baptist, U. S. Navy Veteran, pawn shop broker, former police officer and automobile dealer for many years. Mr. Davies is survived by his wife, Kathie Tribble Davies; son, Lee J. Davies; daughter, Mandy Davies Winfree (Don); bonus daughters, Tiffany Davies Junker (Dusty), and Courtney Lockert; grandchildren, Lissa Davies, Cole Winfree, Matthew Winfree, Maddux “LJ” Winfree, McClane Guerra, Jon Michael Guerra, Hunter Lockert, Noah Lockert, Hannah Junker, Nathan Junker; sister, Stacye Davies; best cousin, Butch Haley. Funeral services will be held 2:30 PM Sunday, January 31, 2021 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Shannon Cantrell and Bro, Jimmy Tyson officiating and burial to follow in Griffith Cemetery with Military Honors performed by the Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be Saturday 3 PM until 6 PM and Sunday 12 Noon until the time of the service at 2:30 PM. Due to COVID-19 and social distancing guidelines, we ask for the health and safety of everyone that you please exercise social distancing. The pews in the chapel are marked off to respect these guidelines and allow 100 to 125 people for the service. The funeral home lounge is closed at this time and no food or drinks are allowed in the funeral home. In addition to flowers, the family ask that donations be made to DeKalb Animal Shelter, Outreach Baptist Church or Temple Baptist Church, in memory of Jim. George Douglas Parrish

George Douglas Parrish, age 91, of Nashville, Tennessee passed away from this life January 26, 2021 in Lebanon, Tennessee. He was born at his family home in Nashville on October 12, 1929 weighing an incredible 14 pounds to Dewey Samuel and Edna Erma Parrish. George married his high school sweetheart, Melissa Lorene Parrish, whom he met at the skating rink. The two eloped in Kentucky at the young age of 17. They were married for 68 years. George owned the Clean-O-Matic Carpet Cleaning business that he ran with his wife for many years. The two were trusted to care for the homes of many customers in the Nashville area, along with many of Nashville’s finest country music stars’ homes and tour buses. George is survived by his daughter, Sherrie Lynn Thomas (Drew) ; sister, Mary Ellen Frizell; daughter-in-law, Judy Elaine Parrish; grandson, James Thomas Mathison II (Julia); granddaughters, Dana Elaine Spicer (Danny) and Kristi Cherie Scott (Ryan), and 12 great grand-children and 5 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his son, Douglas Glen Parrish, and brother, James Parrish. George was a beloved Husband, Daddy, and Pa. A graveside service and interment will be held at 11:00am, Friday, January 29th, 2021 at the DeKalb Memorial Gardens. There will not be any visitation or services at the funeral home, family and friends will meet at the cemetery for the graveside service at 11:00am. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Amy Curtis Johnson

Mrs. Amy Curtis Johnson, age 88, of Alexandria, TN, passed away on Monday, January 25, 2021.

Mrs. Johnson was born September 7, 1932 in Alexandria, TN, a daughter of the late Jim Curtis and Sarah Ann Neal Curtis. She married Ollie Samuel Johnson and he preceded her in death on August 23, 1988. Mrs. Johnson was also preceded in death by Siblings; Johnnie Hall Curtis, Mary Cason, Gladys Driver, Jimmy Curtis, Matt Malone, Ralph Curtis, and Gracie Henley. She worked at the Alexandria Shirt Factory and later for Norvell. Mrs. Johnson was a member of the Lower Helton The Baptist Church.

Mrs. Johnson is survived by Daughters; Ann (Ricky) Taylor of Dowelltown, TN, Janice (Gaylon) Williams of Hickman, TN, and Gail (David) Thompson of Byron, GA. Brother; Roy Dale (Linda) Curtis of Watertown, TN. Four grandchildren; Jason (Marie) Taylor, Aaron (Paula) Taylor, Jesse Thompson, and Amy Thompson. Four great-grandchildren; Kristen (John) Nolen, Reagan Taylor, Peyton Taylor, and Caleb Taylor. Three great-great grandchildren; Crew Nolen, Bo Nolen, and Cove Nolen.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Johnson are scheduled to be conducted from the Avant Funeral Home on Thursday, January 28, 2021 at 3PM with Bro. Dennis Woods officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillview Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be at the Avant Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4PM until 8PM and on Thursday after 12PM until service time at 3PM.




Elmus “Tot” Greston Cantrell

Elmus “Tot” Greston Cantrell age 91 of Smithville passed away at NHC of Smithville January 27, 2021. He was born August 15, 1929 to his parents, the late John Lee and Ona Young Cantrell. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, Joe, J W, Morgan, Thaniel, Jewell, Doyce, John, Lewis, and Prentice Cantrell; sisters, Carmine Poss, Nona Mai Glenn, Nell Fly and Janice Martin; son-in-law, Alan Bradford. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Mr. Cantrell was a member of Mt. View The Baptist Church, worked in factories and was a farmer. He is survived and deeply loved and cherished by his wife of 68 years, Gladys Fuson Cantrell of Smithille; daughters, Phyllis Hallum of Smithville and Suzanne (Bill) Gash of Smithville; grandchildren, Jeremy Hallum, Stephanie Crabtree, Mandy (Paul) Talley, Cory Bradford, Jordan (Erika) Gash and Rachel (Kieran) Russell; great-grandchildren, Wesley Hallum, Conner Crabtree, Trey Crabtree, Peyton Hallum, Hudson Talley, Owen Talley, and Torryn Gash; sisters, Joan Harrelson of Lebanon, and Hilda (Floyd) Corley of Tullahoma; brother McClure (Pam) Cantrell of Smithville; brother-in-law, Joe Fly of Hendersonville; sisters-in-law, Nell Cantrell of McMinnville, Wilma Jean Cantrell of Smithville, Frances Cantrell of Gallatin; Special friend and caregiver Betty Davis; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive Funeral Services will be Friday, January 29, 2021 at 3:PM at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with James Gibbs and Bill Gash officiating and burial to follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday 4:PM until 8:PM and on Friday 12 Noon until the time of the service at 3:PM.
