Ms. Billie Cook

Ms. Billie Burton Cook age 92 of Smithville and a long-time resident of Liberty, passed away Wednesday afternoon December 9, 2020 at The Webb House in Smithville. She was born February 11, 1928 to her parents, the late Hershel and Artie Cantrell Burton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hoyte Cook; daughter, Tammy Knowles; 2 sisters, Louise Burton Evans and Johnnie Burton Hobson. Billie was a member of the Smithville First Baptist Church and worked at Timers, Westinghouse and the shirt factory. She leaves to cherish her memory a son-in-law, Kenneth Knowles of Smithville; granddaughter, Hillary Knowles of Smithville; 2 great-grandsons, Gunner Barfield-Knowles and Teagan Agee; special niece, Gina Jennings Denman of Smithville and niece, Cynthia Hobson Shannon of Huntsville; nephew, Randy Hobson of Fayetteville, TN. Funeral services will be 2PM Friday, December 11, 2020 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel and burial will follow in Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday 11:AM until the time of the service at 2 PM. Due to COVID-19 and social distancing guidelines, we ask for the health and safety of everyone that you please exercise social distancing. Our pews are marked off to respect these guidelines and allow 100-125 people for the service. The funeral home lounge is closed at this time and no food or drinks are allowed in the funeral home. In addition to flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Salem Cemetery or Smithville First Baptist Church, in memory of Ms. Billie. Johnathan (John Hardy) Lesley Lewis

Johnathan (John Hardy) Lesley Lewis age 41 of Smithville, was released from this life on Wednesday December 2, 2020 at his residence in Smithville. He was a very kind person and helped everyone he cam in contact with. He loved all kinds of music and classic automobiles. John was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dudley and Juanita Carrick Lewis and Fred and Ruth Augustin Pelham; special aunt, Gail McCulla Pelham; 2 first cousins, Glen W. Waggoner and Michael Pelham; 1 nephew, Brannon Rochefort; 2 uncles, Glen A. Waggoner and Alfred Robert Helmut Pelham; his father, Paul Dudley Lewis, I. Those left to cherish his memory are include his mother, Helen Pelham Lewis Lowry of Smithville; 3 brothers, Dudley (Annette) Lewis of McMinnville, Eric (Angel) Lewis of Morrison and Victor Lewis of Smithville; 1 sister, Amber (Kris) Orlando of Cookeville, 2 aunts, Brenda Davis of Algood and Pamela Yates of McMinnville; 1 son, Gabe Lewis and his mother, Lori Crook Lewis of Smithville; 2 daughters, Indra and Amiya Lewis and his girlfriend, Bridgett Atnip of Smithville; many aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, friends and cousins also survive. Funeral services will be 1 PM Saturday, December 5, 2020 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Michael Hale officiating and burial to follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery in McMinnville. Visitation with the family will be Saturday 11 AM until the time of the service at 1 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made to DeKalb Funeral Chapel to help with funeral expenses. Bobby Lewis “Stub” Martin

Bobby Lewis “Stub” Martin, 79, of Smithville, TN passed away November 30, 2020 at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, TN surrounded by his wife and children.

Bobby was born September 29, 1941 to the late Malcolm and Elizabeth Martin. In addition to his parents, Bobby was preceded in death by a daughter Ginger Kay Martin, brother Thomas Martin, and sister Mackie Ann Emmert.

Bobby leaves behind his wife of 54 years Thelma Bates Martin, son Christopher Lewis Martin, granddaughter Kaylee Elizabeth Martin of all Smithville, and daughter Misty Rose and Larry Bulawsky of St. Louis, Missouri.

Stub was a long-time resident of DeKalb County, member of the United States Army, co-owner of DeKalb Auto Parts, an avid reader, outdoorsman, and dedicated father, grandfather, and husband.

According to his wishes, Stub will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date. The family asks that donations be made to the Justin Potter Library or the Smithville Church of Christ Day School in lieu of flowers.

Kenneth Lee “Little Man” Bain, Jr.

December 3, 2020

Kenneth Lee “Little Man” Bain, Jr. age 39 of McMinnville and a native of Smithville, passed away Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. He was born July 31, 1981 to his parents, Debra Johnson Bain and the late Kenneth Lee Bain. In addition to his dad, he was preceded in death by a sister, Stacey Powell. He was a member of Whorton Springs Baptist Church and had worked at Ferodo and did auto detailing. He is survived by his fiance, Roxanne Landis of McMinnville; 2 sons, Braxton and Gavin Bain both of Smithville; mother, Debra Bain of Smithville; sister, Nelda (Terry) Raibley of Indiana; nieces, Briana (Austin) Ellis and Tanisha Bandy; nephews, Jacob Bandy and Dayne Powell; great-nieces and nephews, Aaron Bandy, Alejandra Gutierrez and Isaiah Gutierrez; several aunts, uncles and cousins also survive. Graveside services and interment will be 11:AM Saturday, December 5, 2020 at DeKalb Cemetery with Bro. Michael Hale officiating. There will not be any services or visitation held at the funeral home, family and friends will meet at the cemetery at 11AM for the graveside service. Peggy Scott

December 2, 2020

Peggy Scott age 71 of McMinnville passed away Tuesday December 1, 2020 at St. Thomas Rutherford in Murfreesboro. She was born June 25, 1949 to her parents, the late Frank & Betty Sue Hale Sullens. She was a retired factory worker having worked several years at Genesco and Federal Mogul and a member at Old Short Mtn. Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by Sister: Jonell Bratcher; Brother: Frank Sullens. Funeral services will be held 1 PM Friday at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bros. Chris Anderson and Bill Robertson officiating and burial to follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be held Thursday 4 PM until 7 PM and Friday 10:AM until time of the funeral at 1 PM. Survivors include: Husband of 48 and a half years Donnie Scott of McMinnville; Son: Brian (Tracey)Scott of McMinnville; Granddaughter: Hattie Scott of McMinnville; Sister: Regina Saddler of Michigan; Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. A.C. Johnson

Mr. A.C. Johnson of Smithville, TN passed away Sunday, November 29, 2020 at his residence.

He was a former funeral director at Hillcrest Funeral Home and a member of Elizabeth Chapel Baptist Church.

Mr. Johnson was born December 8, 1940 to the late John and Nora Fuson Johson. Also preceding him in death was his first wife, Maxine Maynard Johnson; 4 sisters, Lorene Hale, Barbara Keaton, Christine Tramel, and Mary Jane Johnson; 2 brothers, infant Charlie Johnson and Virgil Johnson.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at 11am from the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Interment will follow at DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be on Tuesday from 2-8pm & on Wednesday, from 9am until the service time at 11am. Due to Covid-19 precautions, social distance measures will be observed. We are also not accepting food in our kitchen facilities.

Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Elizabeth Judkins Johnson; 2 daughters, Pam Johnson and Angie Johnson Anderson both of Smithville; 1 Sister, Violet Pack of Smithville; Special friend, Joyce Boyd; Special nephew, Jeff and Courtney Maynard of Clarksville; Special great nephew and niece, Logan and Emmy; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

In addition to flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Shriners Children Hospital.
