Mike Johnson

Mr. Mike Johnson, age 69 of Lebanon, TN and formerly of Smithville, TN passed away early Wednesday morning, October 14, 2020 at his home in Lebanon, TN.

Mike was born on March 9, 1951 in Smithville, TN to his parents, the late Virgil & Frances Ferrell Johnson Lockhart. Also preceding him in death was his brother, Gary “Gus” Johnson. Mike was a 59 year member of Elizabeth Chapel Baptist Church and served as a deacon for over 38 years. He was a Sunday School Teacher & also served on the church building committee. Mike was a Past Master of the DeKalb Masonic Lodge #358, a member of the Scottish Rite & Al Menah Shriners. Mike furthered served his community for 20 years as a DeKalb County Volunteer Fire Fighter with the Midway Fire Station, Engine 63 and had retired at the rank of Fire Chief. He was a former member of the DeKalb County Rescue Squad & the DeKalb County Board of Education. He was also retired from Kingston Timers.

Funeral Services for Mr. Mike Johnson will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2020 at 2pm at Elizabeth Chapel Baptist Church. Bro. Bill Robertson will officiate with burial to follow at Mt. Holly Cemetery with Fireman’s Honors provided by the DeKalb County Fire Dept. Visitation with the family will be on Friday, October 16th from 2-7pm at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home with a Masonic Service at 7pm. Visitation on Saturday, October 17th will be at Elizabeth Chapel Baptist Church from 11am until the service time at 2pm. Due to Covid-19 precautions, social distance measures will be observed. We are temporarily not accepting food in our kitchen facilities.

Survivors include his Wife, Jeana Curtis Johnson of Lebanon, TN. 2 Sons, Nathan (Danna) Johnson of Lebanon, TN & Ben (Kim) Johnson of Hartsville, TN. 2 Grandsons, Michael Johnson & Alex Johnson both of Lebanon, TN. Brother, Larry Johnson of Louisville, KY.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Permboil Foundation of Lebanon, TN or the Shriners Children’s Hospital of Lexington, KY in memory of Mike.

Johnnie Morris Vaden

Johnnie Morris Vaden died Thursday morning, Oct. 8, 2020 at her residence surrounded by her family at the age of 94 years. Born July 25, 1926 in Woodville, MS, she was the daughter of the late Carroll Cage Ford and Laura Estelle Morris Ford. She was a resident of Woodville, MS until the age of 17 when she married the love of her life, Charlie Neil Vaden on Sept. 20, 1943. After nearly 50 years of marriage, he preceded her in death in 1993. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Tom Ford and Carroll Ford, Jr; and her sisters, Beatrice Ford, Mary Summers and Millie McGinty. She was a homemaker who was loved by so many people and she was an exceptional cook who loved to cook for everybody who came to her home. She also had a love for gardening. Johnnie is survived by her children, Laura Mae Vaden, John C. Vaden and his wife, Betty Jo and Penny Sue Vaden Reed all of Alexandria; grandchildren, Lisa (John) Hale, Kristy (Aaron) Elmore, Michael (Sheronda) Baines, Elizabeth (Kevin) Cripps; great grandchildren, Ethan (Jessica) Hale, Austin Hale, Remington Baines, Charli Cripps, Harlie Elmore, Lierra Baines, Levi Cripps Hannah Elmore and Anna Cripps; great great grandchildren, Oaklynn, Maddox and Myles Hale and John William Hale. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 12, 2020 at Hunter Funeral Home with Bro. Wilson Williams and Sister Lucinda Sharpe officiating. Visitation 2-8 p.m. Sunday and prior to services Monday. Pallbearers, John Hale, Michael Baines, Remington Baines, Aaron Elmore, Ethan Hale, Austin Hale, Levi Cripps, Kevin Cripps and Tom Bush. Tammy May Davenport

October 5, 2020

Tammy May Davenport age 52 of the Short Mountain Community, passed away Sunday at the St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro. She was born July 30, 1968 to her parents, the late George Emory and Minnie Louise Estes Taylor. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mike Davenport. She worked in nursery and was a Pentecostal. She is survived by 3 brothers, Russell Taylor, Bobby Taylor and Randall Taylor; 2 sisters, Brenda Barrett and Georgene (Jeffery) Grisham all of the Short Mountain Community; 3 nieces also survive. Graveside services will be conducted 2 PM Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at Melton Cemetery at Half Acre. There will be no visitation or services at the funeral home. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery for the graveside service at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to DeKalb Funeral Chapel to help with funeral expenses. Jane Eller

October 3, 2020

Jane Eller age 80 of Smithville passed away Friday morning, October 2, 2020 at the Webb House. She was born December 23, 1939 to her parents, the late Clarence T. and Edna Cook Phillips. Ms. Jane retired from Timers, where she worked for many years, and was a member of the Smithville First United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Ralph Eller; Infant son: James David Eller; Brothers: Clarence Phillips, Jr., Bill Phillips; Sister: Norma Gunter. Funeral services will be held 1 PM Sunday October 4, 2020 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Michael Hale officiating and burial to follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Due to the Governor’s Executive orders 38 and 51, and Social Distancing Guidelines, the pews in the Chapel are marked off to respect these guidelines and allow 100-125 people for the service. We ask for the health and safety of everyone that you please exercise social distancing. The funeral home lounge is closed at this time and No food or drinks are allowed in the funeral home. Visitation with the family will be Saturday 3 PM until 6 PM and Sunday 11:AM until the time of the service at 1 PM. Survivors include 2 children: Richard (Kelly) Eller of Franklin, Edie Beth Evins of Smithville; Grandchildren: Devan Eller, Shea Eller, Keefe Eller, Kelsey (Jacob) Hardiman, Marshal Evins; 2 Great-Grandchildren: Hunter Howell, Wyatt Howell; 2 Sisters: Mary Lou Lawson of Smithville, Fatama Campbell of McMinnville; Several Nieces and Nephews also survive. Due to Covid-19 Family asked that masks be worn and no hugging or handshaking during visitation or funeral. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Paul Hilton Ferrell

October 2, 2020

Paul Hilton Ferrell, 78, passed away Thursday, Oct. 1, 2020 at St. Thomas Dekalb E/R. He was a native of Cannon Co.

He is survived by his daughter, Viva Johnson of Smithville; grandchildren, Brad and Brandie Johnson, Melissa Johnson and Debra Johnson; 4 great grandchildren and 2 step great grandchildren also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie James and Nanny Mae Jones Ferrell, his wife, Nellie Marie Ferrell and siblings, Jones, Charles W., Billy and Nadine Ferrell.

Mr. Ferrell was a member of the church of Christ and he enjoyed picking a guitar. He was retired from State of TN with the Forestry dept. and TDOT.

Funeral Services will be 3 pm Sunday, October 4, 2020 in the Chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Mt. Aarat Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Saturday, October 3, 2020 from 4 to 8 pm.

Charlie Watson

October 1, 2020

Mr. Charlie Watson, age 94 of Smithville, passed away Tuesday night, September 29, 2020 at NHC of Cookeville.

Charlie was born on February 2, 1926 in Dewitt, New York to his parents, the late Harry & Bessie Frye Watson. Also preceding him in death is his wife, Priscilla Belle Watson & a daughter, Helen Cassino. Mr. Watson served in the United States Navy at the rank of Chief Petty Officer as a chef. He served his country during WWII and continued until his retirement at 30 years of service. Most of his career was spent on a Submarine, the “Sea Dragon” and then the later part of his time was on an Aircraft Carrier, the “USS Saratoga.” Charlie was awarded the Combat Action Ribbon among other commendations.

Mr. Charlie’s family has chosen cremation. No services are planned at this time.

He is survived by 2 Daughters, Audrey Baker & Nancy Dodrill both of FL. Grandchildren, Donna Chambless, Charlene Vizard, Elizabeth Obrien & Ronald Baker. Several Great Grandchildren & Great Great Grandchildren also survive.
