Jerry Wayne Johnson

Jerry Wayne Johnson was born March 27, 1948, son of the late Donald and Sadie Herman Johnson and departed this life on Tuesday evening, Dec. 3, 2019 at the age of 71 years. He was preceded in death by infant twin siblings and an infant brother.

Jerry Wayne is survived by his wife of 49 years, Freda Duggin Johnson; 4 sons, Darrell Johnson (Inga) and Anthony Johnson (Natalie Gerald) both of Liberty, Donnie Johnson (Ronda) of Smithville, Derek Johnson (Kim Cantrell) of Liberty; 5 grandchildren, Kaitlyn King (Buster), Kimberly Johnson, Justin and Eli Johnson, Andrew Johnson; 7 step-grandchildren, Alex Hale (Phillip), Keshia Hale (Thomas), Gabby Robinson (Kyle), Noah Byford, Maegan and Peyton Harris, Carlie Sullivan; several step-great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Ann Ferrell of Woodbury, special cousins, Paul and Jean Neal of Liberty and several cousins.

Funeral services 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, 2019 at Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria with Bro. John Bell, Bro. Bobby Thomason and Bro. Wilson Williams officiating. Sons and grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers, members of the Dekalb Co. Fire Dept. Visitation 10 a.m. till 8 p.m. Thursday and 10 a.m. till service time on Friday. Interment at Salem Cemetery in Liberty.

Jerry Wayne was a 1966 graduate of Dekalb CountyHigh School and a member of Covenant Baptist Church. He was a former pipe fitter at Perma-Pipe of Lebanon and served as a school board member with the Dekalb Co. Board of Education. Jerry Wayne served with the Liberty Station of the DeKalb Co. Fire Department for 44 years and has been station commander for many years. He was also an Honorary Lifetime Member of the DeKalb Co. Rescue Squad.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials for the family be given at the funeral home.




Barbara Elise Rice Goff

Funeral services for Barbara Elise Rice Goff, age 88, of Cookeville will be held Friday, December 6th, 2019 at 11:00 am with Pastor Jim Moore officiating.

Interment will follow in Goff Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 5, 2019, 2:00 PM – 8:00 PM and Friday, December 6, 2019, 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM at Presley Funeral Home.

Mrs. Goff passed away Tuesday, December 3, 2019 at her home in Cookeville, Tennessee following an extended illness.

She was born Tuesday, October 13, 1931 in Baxter, Tennessee to the late Dewey Mansfield Rice and Ola Mai Harness Rice.

Barbara was a mother of 10 children, and loved her family more than anything. She was a member of Ozion Free Will Baptist Church. She attended Trinity Assembly in Algood with her family for several years, where she enjoyed the fellowship with her church family, and dearly missed it when she got sick and couldn’t attend.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Goff; son, Jerry Raymond Goff; infant great-grandsons, James Raymond and William Dillan; 5 brothers, Yune, Gene, Roy, James, and Bill Rice; 2 sisters, Geraldine Felts and Mary Ellen Shackelford.

She is survived by 4 sons, Gary (Charlene) Goff, Mike Goff, Dale (Marilyn) Goff, and Danny (Johnna) Goff; 5 daughters, Chris (Jim) Moore, Gay Lafever, Pam (Calvin) Lankford, Lesia (Richard) Young, and Robin Beckham; 11 grandkids and 16 great-grandkids; 2 brothers, Bob (Ruth) Rice and Denver (Linda) Rice; 2 sisters, Reba Davis and Sue (Joel) Perkins; brother in-law, Jimmy Shackelford; 2 sisters in-law, Charlene Rice and Linda Rice; several special nieces and nephews.




Joyce Ann Johnson

December 4, 2019

75 year old Joyce Ann Johnson of Smithville passed away Tuesday at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital. She was a member of the Pomeroy Chapel Brethren In Christ Church and a retired machine operator at Kingston Timers. The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Brian Jones will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday from 3:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Friday from 11:00 a.m. until the service at 2:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Johnson; parents, Johnny and Letha Lawrence Young; three brothers, Dennis, Alfred, and J.W. Young; and a sister, Geraldine Fish. She is survived by five sisters, Ollie and Billy Sturgis of Louisiana, Dorothy Faye Adkins of Dowelltown, Christine Arnold of Smithville, Janie and Doug Cook and Cordie “Spankie” and Garry Davis of Smithville.  Brother, Kenneth and Lucy Young of Smithville. Special nephew, Nelson Davis of Smithville. Special friend and daughter Cordell and Melanie Chapman of Smithville. Special friends, Faye Sandosky and Janie Horvath. Brother-in-law and his wife Walter and Jo Johnson of Smithville. Sisters-in-law, Rose and Phinus Daniel of Sparta and Wanda of Michigan. Several nieces and nephews. Carolyn (Sue Carr) Stouder

December 3, 2019

Carolyn (Sue Carr) Stouder, 68, of Smithville, passed from this life at 7:00 p.m., Friday, November 29, 2019 at Saint Thomas Hospital-Midtown in Nashville, Tennessee. She was born July 01, 1951 in the Herren’s Chapel community of Putnam County to Joe and Vera Herren Lewis.

She was a retired factory worker and caretaker of daughter, Lisa. She was a member of Philipi Church of Christ.

Survivors include her daughter, Lisa Carr of Smithville; her sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and James Meadows of Smithville; an aunt, Marie White of Baxter; uncle, Oval Herren of Silver Point; nephew and niece, Jimmy and Penny Meadows of Smithville; great nephews and nieces, Bradley, Ashley N., Sonya, Jacob Harris of Monterey; Ashley L. and India Harris of Rickman; cousins Roger Lewis, Cindy Thomas, Michael David White, Glen (Jill) Herren, Kevin Thomas, and Jared Herren; and special friend Thelma Martin.

She was preceded in death by her father, mother, and baby son.

The family will receive friends at the Baxter chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 3, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. until time of services at 1:00 p.m. Rev. Brad Harris will officiate with interment to follow in the Odd Fellow Cemetery in Baxter, Tennessee.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Mary Ellen Thornton Catron

Mary Ellen Thornton Catron age 94 of Smithville and a native of Memphis, passed away Saturday night, November 30, 2019 at The Webb House in Smithville.  She was born March 30, 1925 to her parents, the late William and Emma Barnett Thornton.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Lynn; 2 sisters, Ruth Dobbs and Nancy Gammon; 1 brother, William Thornton.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Horn Lake, Mississippi and was retired from Kimberly Clark in Memphis.  She is survived by 2 children, Billy Catron of Horn Lake, MS and Carol Brown of Suwanee, GA; 2 grandchildren, Heather and Michael; 2 great-grandchildren, Brandy and Cody; 1 brother, Ron Froelich; 2 nieces, Leslie and Becky; 3 nephews, William, Clark and Ron.  Funeral services in Smithville will be 2 p.m. Friday, December 6, 2019 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Tom Fittis officiating.  Visitation at DeKalb Funeral Chapel will be Friday 12 Noon until the time of the service at 2 p.m.  There will be Funeral Services in Memphis 11:AM Friday, December 13, 2019 at Forrest Hill Funeral Home – Midtown Chapel with interment to follow in Forrest Hill Cemetery.  Visitation in Memphis will be on Friday December 13, 2019 from 10:AM until the time of the service at 11:AM.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the DeKalb Animal Coalition or to the Animal Shelter of your choice.  DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.



Patsy Ann Clark

Patsy Ann Clark age 70, passed away Saturday night  October 19, 2019 at her residence in Smithville. Patsy was born December 25, 1948 to her parents the late Jake and Ovie Reynolds Herman. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her son, Alan Clark; step-daughter, Vickey Lynn Clark; and her sister, Shirley Caldwell. Mrs. Clark was a member of Dowelltown United Methodist Church and was a factory worker.  She is survived by her husband, William Harvey “Red” Clark of Smithville; step-sons, David Earl Clark and Billy Ray Clark both of Smithville; grandchildren, Dakota (Eric) Adcock,  Leah Payton Clark, and Morgan S. Clark; great-grandchildren, Lyren L. Clark, and Arya Adcock; several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. The family has honored Mrs. Patsy’s request to be cremated and a Memorial Service will be held 2:PM Thursday, December 5, 2019 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Bobby Thomason officiating.  Visitation will be Thursday, December 5th, 12 Noon until the time of the service at 2:PM.  DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
