Jimmie Louise Davenport

80 year old Jimmie Louise Davenport of Liberty passed away Thursday at her residence. She was a DeKalb County native, a Baptist, and a wonderful mother and homemaker. The funeral will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Chapel of Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria. Tim Bennett and Jerry Callis will officiate and burial will be in Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 3-8 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. until the service. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Hendrixson and Louise Vaughn. She is survived by her husband of 60 years Clarence Davenport. Children, Donna and Tim Bennett, Diana and Randy Bennett, Dawn Jackson, Dana and Jerry Callis, Daryl Davenport, David and Janetta Davenport, and Devin and Tracie Davenport. Sixteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. Sister, Janie Oakley and a brother, Gwyen and Sharon Hendrixson. Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria is in charge of the arrangements.




Louie Brown McDowell, Sr.

Retired Master SGT Louie Brown McDowell, Sr. U.S.A.F age 93 of Smithville passed away peacefully Friday, November 22, 2019 at NHC Healthcare in Smithville surrounded by his children.  He was born April 3, 1926 in DeKalb County to his parents, the late Toy and Mary Edna Lawrence McDowell.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Willa Mae Hayes McDowell; daughter, Emily Patricia “Pattie” Clayborn; son, Louie Brown McDowell, Jr.; brother, Toy McDowell, Jr.; sister, Inez Driver and grandson, Brian Clayborn.
Louie retired from the United States Air Force following 20 years of service that included combat action during WWII in France and Austria and assignments in Alaska, Texas, Maine and Hawaii.  Following his retirement from the Air Force, Louie also retired from Carrier Corporation after several years working there.
Louie was an avid woodworker and enjoyed sharing his knives, frames, quilt racks, chests and other treasures with his family and friends.
He leaves to cherish his memory, 3 children, Cheryl Kay (David) Bower of Shelbyville, Cathy Lynn (Ronnie) Gay of Fayetteville and David Lane McDowell of Baxter, TN; 12 grandchildren, Jason David (Vicky) McDowell of Birmingham, Jennifer April (Michael) Nordhoff of Franklin,  Patrick (Wendy) Clayborn of Smithville; Mark (Adrianne) Gay of Fayetteville, Matthew (Amber) Clayborn of Smithville, Mary Kathryn McDowell of Atlanta, Christian Gay of Fayetteville, Carolyn (Trent) Burnett of Manchester, Teresa Scott of Woodbury, William “BJ” Beard of Smyrna, Nathan (Melissa) McDowell of Sparta and Adam McDowell of Cookeville; 18 great-grandchildren, Jacob, Josh, Justin, Ethan, Ben, Carson, Caleb, Molly, Maelynn, Dylan, Maddie, Emily, Ella, Cody, Tiffany, Cherish, Charity and Hannah; 2 brothers, Ike McDowell of Norene and Dan McDowell of Nashville; 2 sisters-in-law, Linda (Clarence) Dickens of Mt. Juliet, Ruth Roper of Hermitage; brother-in-law, Don Bass of Nashville; special caregiving friend, Kim Stults and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, November 25, 2019 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with burial to follow in Prosperity Cemetery with full Military Honors.  Visitation with the family will be on Sunday 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. and Monday 11 a.m. until the time of the service at 1 p.m.  DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.



Billy D. Hendrixson

Funeral services for Billy D. Hendrixson, age 83, of Crossville, will be held Sunday, November 24, at 2:00 PM at First United Methodist Church in Crossville. Burial will follow in Elmore Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM on Saturday at Bilbrey Funeral Home in Crossville and from 1:00PM – 2:00 PM on Sunday at First United Methodist Church.  Survivors: Wife  – Annette Hendrixson; Son and Daughter in Law – Dr. Mark & Jan Hendrixson;  Daughter and Son in Law – Robin and Carl Straley;  Sister – Sue Lewis.

Hellon Janette Moss

November 22, 2019

Hellon Janette Moss age 72 of Alexandria, died Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 19, 2019 at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville. Born Jan. 12, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Eldon and Jessie Lee Williamson George and was preceded in death by her brother, Melvin George. Janette was a member of Liberty Hill Presbyterian Church, a graduate of DeKalb Co. High School and retired from Tenneco Mgf. in Smithville. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Jim Moss; sons, Randy Moss and wife, Kim and Greg Moss and wife, Wendy all of Alexandria; grandchildren, Ashlee (Nathan) Thomason, Whitney (Andy) Brelje, Jada and Allen Moss; great grandchildren, Grady, Emma and Wade Thomason, Thomas, Will and Anna Brelje;  sisters, Eldon Lee (Robert) Vanatta and Gearline Jones; nieces and nephews. Funeral services 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24, 2019 at Hunter Funeral Home in Watertown with Rev. Tim Diffenderfer, Dr. John Cheetham and Nathan Thomason officiating. Visitation 1-8 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. till service time on Sunday. Bruce Wayne Medley

Bruce Wayne Medley age 57 of Smithville, passed away Monday, November 18, 2019 at Select Specialty Hospital in Nashville.  He was born December 13, 1961 to his parents, the late Jack and Ruby Vanderpool Medley.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, David Medley and mother-in-law, Naomi Cripps.  Bruce was a cattle trader, former Smithville Mayor and a member of the Smithville First Baptist Church.  He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Susan Medley of Smithville; children, Brandise (Phillip) Raikes of Murfreesboro, Nichol Layne and Christopher Layne both of Smithville; grandchildren, Hunter Layne, Emily Greathouse, Aidan Layne and Abigail Raikes; brother, Ricky (Siggi) Medley of Smithville; father-in-law, Ray Doyle Cripps of Smithville; sister-in-law, Annette Medley of Smithville and brother-in-law, Greg (Kelly) Cripps of Smithville; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.  Funeral services will be 1 P.M . Thursday, November 21, 2019 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Mike Carpenter officiating and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens.  Visitation will be Wednesday 1 P.M. until 7:30 PM and Thursday 10:AM until the time of the service at 1 P.M. In addition to flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Whorton Springs Baptist Church Building Fund, in memory of Bruce.  DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.  



Linda Lawrence

67 year old Linda Lawrence of Smithville passed away Saturday at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She was a Baptist and a sales associate at Dairy Queen. The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Nathan Thomason will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9 a.m. until the service at 11 a.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dalton and Clara Lawrence. Survivors include four sisters, Gwen Chaffins of Knoxville, Gloria and Stan Holbrook of Lexington, Kentucky, Karen and Hugh Sylvia of Lexington, Kentucky, and Gail and Acie Rogers of Prestonsburg, Kentucky. Special friend, Loretta Adcock of Smithville. Several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins also survive. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
