Eddie Wayne Ashford, Sr

June 12, 2019

57 year old Eddie Wayne Ashford, Sr. of Smithville passed away Tuesday at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital. He was a member of the Mt. View The Baptist Church of Christ and a former welder at Star Manufacturing. The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of  Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Robert Pollard will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 2-6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Owen Ashford and Geraldine Smith Southerland, and a brother, Ricky Ashford. Survivors include his wife, Kathy Pollard Ashford of Smithville; four daughters, Christine Ashford of Germany, Amy and Jason Hotchkiss of Knoxville, and Emily Knowles of Smithville and Amber and Jose Ramirez of Atlanta. Three sons, Eddie Jr. and Kaylen Ashford of Oklahoma, and John and Matt Ashford of Smithville. Four grandchildren, Katie Knowles, Logan Gentry, and Alyssa Knowles all of Smithville and Evelyn Hotchkiss of Knoxville.  Step-mother, Annie Ashford McNear of Watertown. Barbara Lois Gay

June 11, 2019

Barbara Lois Gay age 81 of McMinnville, passed away Tuesday morning, June 11, 2019 at The Webb House in McMinnville.  She was born April 18, 1938 to her parents, the late Zollie and Viola Adcock Cantrell.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John “J.E.” Gay; 5 brothers, Seborn, Tom, Glenn, Cliff and Ed Cantrell and 1 sister, Jackie Gay.  Lois was a Primitive Baptist and she and her late husband built houses for many years and were also nursery owners.  She leaves to cherish her memory, 2 daughters, Kathy (Danny) Cantrell of Spencer and Tressa (JB) Moore of McMinnville; 4 grandchildren, Travis (Tara) Rigsby of McMinnville, Jason (Kris) Moore of Paris, TN, Michael (Allison) Moore of McMinnville and Joshua (Samantha) Moore of McMinnville; 4 great-grandchildren, Carter and Lauren Rigsby, John Sawyer Moore and James Luke Moore; 2 sisters, Judy Cantrell of McMinnville and Lillian (Brownie) Tittsworth of Smithville; 1 brother, Zollie Dale Cantrell of Knoxville; several nieces and nephews also survive.  Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday, June 14, 2019 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Michael Hale officiating and burial will follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens.  Visitation with the family will be on Thursday 12 Noon until 8 p.m. and Friday 10:AM until the time of the service at 1 p.m.  DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements




Stephen Ray “Stevie” Young

Stephen Ray “Stevie” Young age 54 of Smithville, passed away Thursday night at NHC HealthCare Center.  He was born October 18, 1964 the son of the late, Ethel Mae Hale Gilley.  In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by 1 sister, Betty Young and 1 brother, Mark Young.  Stevie worked for several years at Kwik-N-Ezzy and was a member of the Dowelltown Baptist Church.  He is survived by 1 brother, Randy Gilley of Dowelltown; 2 nieces, Leslie (Charles) Martin and Amanda (Bobby) Menzie.  The family has honored Stevie’s request to be cremated and a private service will be held at a later date.  DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.  



Mary Louise Wilson

June 6, 2019

Mrs. Mary Louise Wilson age 84 of Alexandria, TN passed away Wednesday June 5, 2019 at the NHC Healthcare Center in Smithville.

Mrs. Wilson was born on January 29, 1935 in Waco, TX a daughter of the late Earnest and Sally I. Riddle Avera. Mrs. Wilson worked as a waitress, loved the outdoors, traveling, fishing, and horseback riding. She attended the Upper Helton Baptist Church.

Mrs. Wilson is survived by three daughters: Barbara Wells of Alexandria, TN, Jody Jentsch of Texas and Valerie Engelhart of Lancing, TN. One son: Thomas Hagerman of Alexandria, TN. Grandchildren: Thomas Pierson, Chelsea Engelhart, and Micheal Engelhart.

Mrs. Wilson’s remains rest at the Avant Funeral Home. Graveside Services and interment for Mrs. Wilson will be held Friday, June 7, 2019 at 11 AM at the Salem Cemetery in Liberty, TN.

Mrs. Wilson’s family and friends will gather at the Salem Cemetery just prior to the 11AM service on Friday. There will be no visitation prior to the graveside service.

Ione H. Keith

June 5, 2019

92 year old Ione H. Keith of Smithville went home to be with the Lord on June 5. She was born February 3, 1927 to her parents, the late Charlie and Bonnie Haynes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, W.J. Keith; son, Randy Keith; and sister, Freda Cantrell. The funeral will be Friday at 3 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Chad Ramsey will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday from 3-8 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. until the service at 3 p.m. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and worked as a secretary most of her life. She is survived by her son, Jeff (Kimmie) Keith of McMinnville; three grandchildren, Virginia (Robert) Oaks of McMinnville, Tabitha (John) Farmer and Alex Keith of Smithville. Six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. In addition to flowers, donations may be made to the Smithville First Baptist Church in her memory.




Linda S. Pryor

June 4, 2019

Linda S. Pryor,71 of Clyde passed away unexpectedly at Haywood Regional Hospital on Saturday, June 1, 2019 surrounded by her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dillard Petty and Ina Williams Brindley; sister, Barbara Tittle; niece, Bambi Mabeus and her great granddaughter, Charlotte Mae Greenhouse.

Linda is survived by her loving husband of 30 years, Bruce Pryor; daughter, Devona (Michael) McDaniel and Shonna Mabeus; one son-in-law, Jordan Price; grandchildren, Michael McDaniel II and Hayley Greenhouse; great granddaughter, Shayley Greenhouse.

Funeral services will be held at 7:00 PM, Tuesday, June 4, 2019, Smoky Mountain Chapel with Jimmy Greene officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A private family burial will take place on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at noon at Petty Cemetery in Smithville, TN.
