Henry A. Hensley

Henry A. Hensley age 70 of Smithville, passed away Sunday afternoon, February 24, 2019 at his residence.  He was born July 24, 1948 to his parents, the late Zollie Ray and Fannie Jewel Terry Hensley.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 6 siblings, Johnnie Hensley, Cap Hensley, Barbara Ruth Griffin, Charles Hensley, Elizabeth Martin and Ray Hensley.  Henry was a retired factory worker and a Baptist.  He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Hensley of Smithville; 3 daughters, Maggie (Reece) Tramel, Sandra Farless and Loretta (Timmy) Hendrixson all of Smithville; son, Joe Marshall of Sparta; 8 grandchildren, James Tramel, Amanda Tramel, Hope Farless, Breanna Campbell, Tiffini Hoke, Dakota Flynn and Dalton Marshall; 5 brothers, Tommy (Peggy) Hensley of Sparta, Ganies (Vicki) Hensley of Tampa, FL, David (Donna) Hensley of Monterey, Jerry (Roxie) Hensley of Sparta and Danny Hensley of Smithville; 1 sister, Carolyn Young of Cookeville and several nieces and nephews.  Funeral services will be conducted 1 P.M. Thursday, February 28, 2019 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Mike Clayborn officiating and burial will follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens.Visitation with the family will be on Wednesday 1 P.M. until  8 P.M. and Thursday 9:AM until the time of the service at 1 P.M.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to DeKalb Funeral Chapel to help with funeral expenses.  DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.



Mary Robinson Washer

February 25, 2019

Mary Robinson Washer age 86 of Smithville, went home to be with the lord on Saturday February 23, 2019 at NHC HealthCare Center.  She was born November 24, 1932 to her parents, the late Clifton and Ethel Hullett Robinson.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Tom Washer; a son, David Clifton Washer; 3 brothers, Edward Robinson, Charles Robinson and Carl Robinson; 3 sisters, Calysta Pedigo, Delia Foutch and Lois Williams; sister-in-law, Jorene Parsley.  Mary was a member of the Jacob’s Pillar United Methodist Church and a retired factory worker and homemaker.  She leaves to cherish her memory, 2 children, Danny (Joan) Washer and Lisa (Frankie) Young both of Smithville; 5 grandchildren, Heather (Keith) Phillips, Adam Washer, David Travis Shockley, Relley Yott, and Matthew Yott; 3 step-grandchildren, Lori Panter, Jennifer Knott and Brandon Evans; 5 great-grandchildren, Molly, Pheobe and Henry Phillips, Haylie and Peyton Washer; 2 sisters, Omega Hayes and Jo (Jesse) Baker both of Smithville; brother, Brisco (Jean) Robinson of Smithville; brother-in-law, Paul Parsley of Smithville; and several nieces and nephews.  Funeral services will be 11:AM Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bros. Royce Martin and Doyle Slager officiating and burial will follow in Whorton Springs Cemetery.  Visitation with the family will be on Monday 4:30 PM until 8 PM and Tuesday 9 AM until the time of the service at 11 AM.  In addition to flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Jacob’s Pillar United Methodist Church, in memory of Ms. Mary.  DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.  The family also appreciates the staff of NHC Healthcare Center for the care given to Mary.



Hugh Thomas Mosley

February 24, 2019

51 year old Hugh Thomas Mosley of Spencer passed away Friday at his father’s residence in Spencer. He was a carpenter and a member of the Church of Christ. The funeral will be Thursday at 12 noon at the chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in Montgomery Cemetery in Cowan, Tennessee. Visitation will be Wednesday from 3-8 p.m. and Thursday from 9 a.m. until noon.  Mosley was preceded in death by a brother. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Taylor Mosley and a son, Dustin Mosley both of Spencer. A daughter, Audrea Mosley of Nashville. Granddaughter, Kaitlyn Conley of Centertown. Father, Clifford Mosley, Jr of Spencer. Mother, Patricia Parker Hayes of Monteagle, Four brothers, three sisters, and father and mother-in-law, Roy and Louise Taylor of Smithville also survive. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Love-Cantrell Funeral Home to help with burial expenses.




Wayne Alan Shuttleworth

February 24, 2019

66 year old Wayne Alan Shuttleworth of Smithville passed away Friday at his home. He was a member of the Old Way Missionary Baptist Church and a Quality Engineer. The funeral will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Tim Pack will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-8 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the service at 1 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace and Mary Pizor Shuttleworth; infant son, Wayne Shuttleworth; brother, Wallace Shuttleworth; grandparents and nephew, Erik Shuttleworth. Survivors include his wife, Brenda Whittaker Shuttleworth; two daughters, Brenda and Brandon Fuson and Brandy and B.J. Patterson all of Smithville. Two sons, Gary and Anna Shuttleworth of Madison and Keith and Amanda Shuttleworth of Smithville. Seventeen grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and four brothers, Mark and Ruthann Shuttleworth of Pennsylvania, Glenn Shuttleworth of Florida, David and Lori Shuttleworth and Brad and Amanda Shuttleworth of Pennsylvania. Two sisters, Mary and Michael Wright and Holly and Ken Werner of Pennsylvania. Good friend Linda Rodgers and several nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles also survive. Curtis Ross Layman

Curtis Ross Layman age 79 of Smithville, TN, Madison, Ohio and native born of Fairmont, WV, passed away Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at The Webb House in Smithville. He was born November 19, 1939 to his parents, the late Lawrence C. and Mildred Hazel Jones Layman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Jeremy S. Manypenny. Early in Curtis’s life he was employed as a truck driver in West Virginia and then moved to Madison, Ohio and was employed for the next 36 years with Morton Salt. Curtis had a passion for the outdoors, he loved to hunt and fish and was a member of Mountain Top Hunting Club and the NRA. He is survived by 4 children, Tyra Sue Layman of Ohio, Starla D. (Durwin) Moore of Ohio, Margaret (Tim) Pyles of Tennessee and Bryan Ross (Sandy) Layman of Ohio; 11 grandchildren, Brandon S. Manypenny, Angela D. Manypenny, Crystal D. Smith, Felecia Olmsteed, Shambriel Moore, Breona Pack, Jennifer A. Pyles, Brandon (Kelsey) Pyles, Curtis Phillip Layman, Thomas Ross Layman and Michael Terrell; 6 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers, William H.L. (Carol) Layman of Ohio, Ray (Marge) Layman of Fairmont, WV, Rex C. (Susie) Layman of Fairmont, WV; 2 sisters, Lavada McKinney and Ellen (Gerald L.) Swiger both of Fairmont, WV. Graveside services and interment will be 3 PM Sunday, February 24, 2019 at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Fairmont, WV. Visitation with the family will be Sunday 2 PM until 3 PM at the Mt. Zion Methodist Church, located at 95 Mt. Zion Cemetery Road in Fairmont. DeKalb Funeral Chapel, Smithville, TN is in charge of the arrangements.




Sandra Kay Chapman Ponder

Sandra Kay Chapman Ponder age 53 of Smithville, passed away Sunday evening February 17, 2019 at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital.  She was born February 19, 1965 to her parents, the late Buster and Gloria Fish Chapman.  She was a member of People’s Pentecostal Church and worked at Federal Mogul.  Survivors include 2 sisters, Tammy Dyer of Smithville and Eva Dover of Smithville; 3 brothers, Josh (Taylor) Chapman of Smithville, Danny (Cindy) Tatrow of Chattanooga and Rod (Lana) Tatrow of Sevierville; mother, Mary (Jay) Young of Smithville; several nieces and nephews and special friends, Heather Johnson and Deanna Boyd.  Funeral services will be 1:PM Thursday, February 21, 2019 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bros. Thomas Hewell and Graden Kirksey officiating.  Visitation will be Wednesday 4:PM until 8:PM and Thursday 10:AM until the time of the service at 1:PM.  DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
