Jonell Bratcher

Jonell Bratcher age 71 of Smithville, passed away Wednesday morning, September 5, 2018 at her residence. She was born October 29, 1946 to her parents, the late Frank Brown and Betty Sue Hale Sullens. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J.M. Bratcher; 1 brother, Frank Sullens. She was a member of the Blues Hill Church of Christ and a retired factory worker. Jonell leaves to cherish her memory, 2 sons, Jason and Joel Bratcher both of Woodbury; step-son, Barry (Regina) Bratcher of Germany; 3 grandchildren, Aaron Bratcher, Jacob Bratcher and Vanessa Bratcher; 2 sisters, Peggy (Donnie) Scott of McMinnville and Regina (Pete) Saddler of Detroit, MI; 2 nieces and 2 nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 1 PM Saturday, September 8, 2018 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Rannie Phillips officiating and burial will follow at Gunter-Grizzle Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be on Friday 1 PM until 8 PM and Saturday 10 AM until the time of the service at 1 PM. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Jean Harney

August 31, 2018

79 year old Jean Harney of Smithville passed away Friday at her home. She was a retired school teacher and a member of the Jacobs Pillar Methodist Church. The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Royce Martin and Chad Ramsey will officiate and burial will be in Whorton Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 4-8 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. until the service at 3 p.m. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mack Harney, Jr.; parents, C.H and Bernice Malone; and a sister and brother-in-law, Billie Ann and Johnny Frazier. Survivors include two children, Mack and Sandy Harney of Smithville and Mary and Billy Hooper of Smithville. Four grandchildren, John Harney of Smithville, Michael Hooper of Murfreesboro, Jessica Harney of Chattanooga, and Kate Hooper and Adam Rodrigues of Raleigh, North Carolina. One brother, Boyd Malone of Oak Ridge. Two sisters, Peggy and husband Jeff Pearson of Travels Rest, South Carolina, and Judy Malone of Cookeville. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. In addition to flowers, please make donations to the Young Pastor Scholarship Fund.




Stephanie Jane McGhee

August 31, 2018

Stephanie Jane McGhee age 44 of Gladeville, died Wednesday evening, Aug. 29, 2018 at Vanderbilt Medical Center. Born March 29, 1974 in Dekalb County, she was the daughter of Linda Cook Clemons and the late Carroll Lee Clemons. She is survived by her companion, Philip Neely of Gladeville; sons, Brady McGhee and Caleb McGhee both of Smithville; mother, Linda Cook Clemons of Alexandria; sister, Joyce (Ronald) Kelly of Brush Creek; 2 nieces and a nephew; aunts, uncles and cousins.  A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, 2018 at Hunter Funeral Home with Bro. Ruby Lois Medley

90 year old Ruby Lois Medley of Smithville passed away Wednesday at her residence. She was a homemaker and a member of Smithville First Baptist Church. The funeral service will be held Saturday, September 1, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Bro. Chad Ramsey will officiate and burial will be in Smithville Town Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 12:00 noon until 8:00 p.m., Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m.   Mrs. Medley was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Medley; parents, A. C. “Buster” and Carrie Braswell Vanderpool;; step-mother, Ruby Vanderpool; brother and sister-in-law, Alfred and Colleen Vanderpool, brother-in-law, James Donnell and special caregiver, Jo Horn. She is survived by three sons, David and Annette Medley, Bruce and Susan Medley, and Ricky and Siggi Medley, all of Smithville; seven grandchildren, Louie Jack and Constance Medley of Smithville, Cindy Cole of Smithville, Brandise Layne of Nashville, Nicole Layne of Smithville, Christopher Layne of Smithville, Matt and Christy Napier of Cookeville, and Brittany and David Bradberry of McMinnville; great grandchildren, Mason and Ethan Medley, Hunter Layne, Emily Layne, Aidan Layne, Alexis Stanley, all of Smithville, and the Bradberry children of McMinnville, sister Doris Donnell of Smithville, sisters-in-law, Eva Lois Hickman of Kingsport and Peggy Young of McMinnville; three nieces and special caregivers, Nancy Bain, Nichol Layne and Pat Rutherford also survive. In addition to flowers, donations may be made in memory of Mrs. Medley to Alzheimer’s Research.




Infant Serenity Grace Nowicki

August 28, 2018

Infant Serenity Grace Nowicki, the daughter of Corrine Nowicki, passed away Friday night, August 24, 2018 at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga.  Serenity Grace is also survived by her grandfather, Charlie Nowicki of Smithville; 2 aunts, Brenda and Riki Reeder of Lebanon; 1 uncle, Anthony Nowicki of Sparta.  The family has chosen a direct cremation and a private memorial service will be held at a later date.  DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements




Otis Eugene Jernigan

August 28, 2018

Mr. Otis Eugene Jernigan, 74, passed away Saturday August 25, 2018 at his home in Manchester, Tennessee.  He was born in Cannon County, Tennessee to Keithly O. Jernigan and Maggie Opal Davis Jernigan who preceded him in death.   He was also preceded in death by his wife, Alice Rozell Bumbalough Jernigan; brothers, Hobert Lee and Henry Estle Owen Jernigan; sisters, Thelma Ann Hutson and Rosie Wilene Jernigan Bumbalough; granddaughter, Holly Jernigan; great granddaughter, Emmalynn Jernigan. He retired from the Carrier Corporation after 37 years of service and was a gentleman farmer.  He was a member of the Red Hill Church of Christ.

He is survived by his sons, Travis (Kathy), Steve (Vhonda), David (Bambi) and Mark (Dewana) Jernigan; sisters, Helen Jernigan Poston and Pauline Gilreath, Sparta, Tennessee, Mamie Jernigan (Berle) Billings, Smithville, Tennessee; grandchildren, Andrea (Michael) Bumpas, Josh (Elizabeth),Callie, Matt (Brittany), Cole (Torrie) and Tyler (Abi-Gail) Jernigan, Atheana (C.W.) Reed, Heather (Tyler) Holes, Johnathon (Cristel) Giles, Miranda A. Bumpas and Harley Bennett, Jasmine Jones; great-grandchildren, Branson and Graham Jernigan, Marley, Lucian, Landon and Konor Bumpas, Marisol, Mia and Bentley Giles, Gabriella and Jett Jones; Haiden, Ayra, Landon and Gracelynn Jernigan, Sadie Reed, Tara and Tavin; several loving nieces and nephews; special nephews, Duane and Darrell Billings, Terry Hutson.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Sunday September 2, 2018 in the Central Funeral Home Chapel with Ralph Hart officiating with burial to follow in the Midway Church of Christ Cemetery in Cannon County.
