James Dean Allen

Mr. James Dean Allen, age 52 of Smithville, passed away Saturday afternoon at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital. He was a member of the Smithville Church of Christ, an EMT Instructor at TN Tech and was a critical care paramedic for 26 years. James was a big family man that enjoyed anything involving his children and grandchildren. He also was a happy go lucky guy that loved joking around. He chose to make life fun.

Mr. Allen was born on October 18, 1971 in Spencer, TN. Preceding him in death were his parents, JL and Linda Allen, step-sister, Daphne Shockley and father-in-law, Aubrey Wright.

The family has chosen to honor James request to be cremated. There will be a memorial service held on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at 6:00 pm. Visitation will be from 5 to 6 and Bro. Houston Austin will officiate.

Survivors include his wife, Teena Wright Allen, 2 sons, Nathan (Brittney) Gard and Ben (Traci) Gard, 6 grandchildren, Paityn, MaKenlee, Addison, Logan, Reese and Axel, sister, Dana Shoemake, Stepmother, Diana Allen, stepsister, Angie Smith, Niece, Paige Shoemake, mother-in-law, Betty Jo Wright, sister-in-law, Misty (Jason) Poss, several nieces and nephews also survive.

Minnie Laverne Ours

January 14, 2024

Mrs. Minnie Laverne Ours, age 97 of the Keltonburg community, passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2024. She was a member of the Keltonburg Church of Christ and a homemaker.

Mrs. Ours was born on November 14, 1926 in McMinnville, TN. She was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel Webster and Minnie Sellars Locke, husband, Leonard Ours, son, Mark Ours, 3 brothers and 2 sisters.

Visitation with the Ours family will be on Sunday, January 21, 2024 from 12 noon until the service time at 2:00 pm. Bro. Bobby Cloyd will officiate and burial will follow in Keltonburg Cemetery.

Survivors include 2 sons, John Ours of Murfreesboro and Dr. David (Robyn) Ours of Milton, grandchildren, Jason Ours, Amanda Ours Randolph, Matthew Ours, Ashton and Cody Bailey. Several great-grandchildren also survive.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations please be made to Keltonburg Church of Christ, Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital or the charity of your choice.

Charles Wayne “Jap” Robinson

January 13, 2024

Charles Wayne “Jap” Robinson, age 72 of Smithville, passed away Friday, January 12, 2024 at his residence in Smithville. He was born in Wayne, Michigan on November 18, 1951 to his parents, the late Charles and Jacqueline Evans Robinson. Wayne was retired from TRW, a former Air National Guard, a Mason, a member of NWTF, and a lifetime member of OOIDA (Owner-Operator Individual Driver Association).

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 16 at 2pm at the chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home and burial will follow in Hullett Cemetery.  Visitation with the family will be on Sunday from 5-8pm, Monday from 11am-8pm, and on Tuesday from 11am until the time of service at 2pm.

In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Tommy Stockling; nephew, David Wayne Alexander; special friends from the Coconut Ridge Community.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria Robinson of Smithville; 2 sons, Nick Robinson (Stacey Wood) of Smithville and Chris Robinson (Christy Evans) of Smithville; 7 grandchildren, Isaac Robinson of Chattanooga, Keirstine Robinson of Sparta, Kaden Robinson of Sparta, Hunter Robinson (Jenilyn Parrish) of Madison, Chloe Robinson, Hayden Evans, and Dustin Evans all of Smithville; 1 great grandchild, Baby Boy Evans on the way; 4 sisters, Wanda Robinson, Joyce (Tommy) Alexander, Debra Robinson, and Jackie Stockling all of Smithville; 2 brothers, David (Linda) Robinson and Terry (Sara) Robinson all of Smithville; 2 sisters-in-law, Kathy Creveling (Bob Martin) of Hume, Virginia and Grace Creveling (Al Glodowski) of Naperville, Illinois; 2 brothers-in-law, David Creveling of Dixon, Iowa and Ron VanZuiden of San Jose, California; fur baby, Bailey; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and Coconut Ridge Community family/friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made the funeral home to help with funeral expenses.

John Edward Rock

January 12, 2024

John Edward Rock, age 73, formerly of Hessville passed away while surrounded by his loving tribe on Wednesday, January 10, 2024.

He is survived by his high school sweet heart, wife of 55 years, Debbie Lynn Rock (nee White); two sisters: Diann (late Tony) Higgins and Glenda (Dan) Foster; numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

John was preceded in death by his parents, James and Goldie Rock; one brother, Dale Rock.

John was a long-time resident of Hessville; a graduate of Morton High School class of 1970. He was a proud Army Veteran of the Vietnam war. John enjoyed racing, stock cars, motorcycles and legend cars. He simply loved family, never met a stranger and was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. In his free time, he enjoyed traveling, going to car shows, swap meets and anything cars. John will be remembered wrenching on his beloved 1957 Chevy. John was a special guy who was so well-loved he will never be forgotten.

Friends are invited to meet with the family for visitation on Saturday, January 13, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Bocken Funeral Home 7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville). Funeral service will follow at 5:00 p.m. with Chaplin Mark Lacy officiating. Graveside Services will be 2PM Friday, January 26, 2024 at DeKalb Cemetery with Bro. Michael Hale officiating and Military Honors will be conducted by the Veterans Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers memorials to Hospice of the Calumet Area would be appreciated.

Phyllis Ann Miner

January 12, 2024

Mrs. Phyllis Ann Miner, age 64 of Alexandria, passed away Thursday night, January 11, 2024 at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital. She was a retired hotel desk clerk and formerly of Nashville.

Mrs. Miner was born on April 16, 1959 in Nashville, TN. She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard L. Miner and Beverly Ann Rogers and one son, Mario Harrison.

The family has chosen direct cremation and there will be no visitation at the funeral home.

Survivors include one son, Christopher Holman (Juli White) of Alexandria, 3 grandchildren, Heavenlee White, Ayden White and Roman White all of Nashville and one brother, George Rogers of Orlinda, TN.

Thomas Claston Beltz

January 12, 2024

Thomas Claston Beltz age 30, of Sparta passed away Wednesday January 10, 2024 at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital ER, from injuries received in an automobile accident. He was born December 25, 1993, to his parents, Charles and Connie Hill Beltz. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Charles and Donna Beltz, and Claston and Frona Hill and other extended family. Mr. Beltz served in the United States Marines 2nd Battalion, 10th Division Artillery, Semper Fi. He is survived by his wife, Meaghan Beltz of Florida; parents, Charles and Connie Beltz of Smithville; brother, Hudson (Alyssa) Beltz of Sparta; nieces, Ari Beltz, Remi Beltz, and Josie Beltz; grandparents, Ray and Sharon Carter of North Carolina; mother-in-law, Liberty; siblings-in-law, Tobi and Gary; his fur baby, Tucker; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; extended family and his Brothers In Arms. The family is honoring his request to be cremated and A Celebration of Life will be held 2 PM Sunday, January 14, 2024, at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Friends and Family officiating, Military Honors following. Visitation will be Sunday 10:30 AM until the time of the service at 2:00PM. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is honored to care for the Beltz family.
