Rickey Lynn Stanley

57 year old Rickey Lynn Stanley of Smithville passed away Wednesday at his residence. He was a member of the Dry Creek Baptist Church and member of the Al Menah Shrine Temple, Center Hill Masonic Lodge #77, and the Order of the Eastern Star #374. He was also a former Texas Boot machine operator and farmer. The funeral will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Donald Owens will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday from 2-9 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at 1 p.m. A Masonic Service will be Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Stanley was preceded in death by his parents, Hiram Stanley and Amanda Ruth Ervin, and father-in-law, Garrison Lee Bond. Survivors include his spouse, Kathy Bond Stanley; daughter, Angela and Joe O’Connell; a son, Rickey, Jr. and Jessica Stanley; a sister, Melissa Stanley; brothers, Ronald Stanley, Eddie and Louella Stanley; Randall Stanley; half-brother, Michael and Mandy Stanley; half-sister, Jennifer Pack; step-brother, Wayne and Linda Bush; five grandchildren, Reann, Faithann and Jolynn O’Connell and Chelsie and Lily Stanley; mother-in-law, Grady Bond Gribble; sisters-in-law, Grady and John Hernandez of California and Linda and Richard Gonzalez of Texas; brothers-in-law, Joe and Bea Bond of Missouri; Danny Bond and Susan Johnson of Smithville and Johnny and Shannon Bond of Utah. Several nieces and nephews survive. Close personal friends, Benny Dawes, Debra Crawford, Carol Underhill, Johnny Paul, Claudine Crawford, Paulette and Bobby Robinson, Edsel and Edward Frazier, Beverly Knauer, and the Dry Creek Baptist Church family. Brien A. Ellis

March 27, 2018

82 year old Brien A. Ellis of Smithville, loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away at St Thomas DeKalb Hospital after a brief illness on March 26, 2018. Brien was born in England on June 4, 1935 and was raised in Wales until the age of 14 when he entered the British Royal Navy. He earned a degree in mechanical engineering and worked in England at what was known then as Nuturn (Federal Mogul). He was transferred to Nuturn in Smithville in 1979 where he met his loving wife of 34 years, Joyce May Ellis. He was also a member of the Smithville First United Methodist Church. The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Dr. John Carpenter will officiate and burial will be in the Burton-Ponder Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. and Wednesday from 8 a.m. until the time of the service. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Teresa Hogdin Ellis; a daughter, Susan Ellis and Granddaughter named after him, Alexandra Sierra Norton. In addition to his wife of 34 years, Ellis is survived by four children, Christine, Jackie, Richard, and Tony Ellis and their families all of England. Three brothers, Kevin, Terry, and Gerad and one sister, Maureen all of England; three step-children, Greg Dugdale, Laura Dugdale of DeKalb County and Rosalin and Antonio Rangel of McMinnville. Thirteen grandchildren with four living close, Gregory Norton, Winston Dugdale, Olivia Dugdale, and Emma Grace Rangel. He is also survived by several great grandchildren of England. He is survived by many special friends, including Angela Wilsdorf, Alan Norton, and Gary and Kim Johnson. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Dwight Edward Luna

Mr. Dwight Edward Luna, 68 of Sparta, Tennessee passed away on Thursday, March 22, 2018 at his residence.

Born Sunday, August 28, 1949 in Smithville, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Reefus and Ressie Luna. Mr. Dwight loved hunting and model cars.

Survivors include his wife, Maria Luna of Smithville; son, Brian Luna of Smithville; daughter, Heather Guy (Randy) of Sparta; brother, Larry Luna (Angela) of Smithville; sister, Bonnie Chacon (Marco) of Smithville; step-daughter, Ayde Ray; 2 grandchildren, Sierra Hendrien and Dakota Hendrien, and many friends and neighbors.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Dwight Edward Luna.

A memorial service will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at Johnson Chapel Freewill Baptist Church with John Cunningham officiating.

Virginia Lenora Hibdon Miller

99 year old Virginia Lenora Hibdon Miller of Smithville passed away Saturday at Alive Hospice in Nashville. She was a grocery store clerk and a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. A graveside service will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at DeKalb Memorial Gardens. The family will officiate. There will be no visitation held at the funeral home however the graveside service is open to the public. Also a memorial service will be announced at a later date. Mother Miller was a very private person who loved her family dearly. She will be missed by all those who loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Ada Hibdon; husband, Orval Miller; son-in-law, James Reed Knowles; sister and brother-in-law, Wilma and Alan Hooper. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Emogene and Brisco Robnson; a granddaughter, Donna and husband Charles Hicks; a grandson, Randy and his wife Dianne Knowles; great grandchildren, Donna and husband Danny Gann, Chris and his wife Cindy Hicks, Jason Knowles, Ryan Knowles, and Tiffany and her husband Justin Adams; great great grandchildren, Logan Gann, Lauren Gann, Emily Adams, and Avery Adams; special nieces and nephews, Diane and Deloy Kirby, Renee and Brad Hennessee, and Chad and Shelia Kirby and families. Betty F. Neal

96 year old Betty F. Neal of Alexandria died Sunday at NHC in Smithville. A graveside service will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Salem Cemetery in Liberty. Visitation will be Monday from 5-7 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jonny and Blondell Neal; a sister, Annine John Keaton; nephews, Edward Neal Vanderpool, Hugh Gordon Keaton, and Brian Keaton; and three brothers-in-law, Steve Vanderpool, O.D. Keaton, and Taylor Payne, Jr. Survivors include two sisters, Evelyn Vanderpool of Murfreesboro and Roberta Jo Payne of Hermitage. Three nephews, Ken and Sandra Vanderpool, Ronnie and Jackie Payne, and David and Jill Keaton. Three nieces, Beverly and Danny Wayne Owens, Mitzi Payne, and Loretta Walker. Helen Rose Maxwell

Helen Rose Maxwell, 84, of Welaka, Florida went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 17, 2018 unexpectedly at her residence. Helen was born in Smithville, Tennessee and had been a resident of Welaka for the past 46 years, coming from Marion, Alabama. She was an active and faithful member of Welaka United Methodist Church where she had served in many capacities. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, cooking, baking, feeding others, gardening and watching the manatees from her dock. Her passion was her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a hardworking homemaker. Preceding her in death was the love of her life, her husband of 67 years, James I. Maxwell; and three sisters, Jodie, Shirley and Ruby. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Douglas and Rosalou Maxwell of Spanish Fort, AL, and Dennis and Lynne Maxwell of Pomona Park; a sister, Wilma Staley of Smithville, TN; five grandchildren and spouses, Monica Maxwell, Michael and Laura Maxwell, James and AlvaGayle Maxwell, Jessica Maxwell, and Rebecca and Johnny Phosavath; eleven great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A service celebrating Helen’s life and honoring her Lord will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 20th with Pastor Erle Prevatt and Pastor William Sparks officiating. The family will begin receiving friends at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at Masters Funeral Home in Palatka, Florida. Graveside services and interment will be Thursday, March 22, 2018 at Whorton Springs Cemetery with Bro. Michael Hale officiating. Visitation with the family will be Thursday 2 P.M. until 2:45 P.M. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel at which time the family will leave to go to the cemetery for the graveside service.
