Ernest Dale Stone

Saturday, August 19th, 2023, Ernest Dale Stone age 79, of Smithville, TN, passed away peacefully in the arms of his beloved daughters Renee & Kendra at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Born March 23, 1944 to Frank Lefford Stone and Lula Mae (Bass), Ernest led his young life in Liberty, TN as the youngest of seven children. He was a graduate of the 1962 class at Liberty High School.

After marrying Linda (Christian) in 1964 they were blessed with two loving daughters. A hardworking and affectionate father, Ernest enjoyed coaching his daughters’ softball teams, vacationing on Florida beaches and the Smokey Mountains with his family, and working outside.

Forever proud of his girls, they found their own families and he earned his titled “Granddaddy”. His family was the pride and joy of his life where he cared for, adored, and mentored 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and countless nieces and nephews.

Ernest was a proud retiree of Federal-Mogul, having worked as a supervisor for many years where he was affectionately known as Ernie.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by the mother of his children, Linda Christian Stone, mother-in-law Louise Christian Frazier, sisters, Annie Laura Young and Janice Davis both of Smithville and brother Billy Stone of Lafayette.

He survived by daughter Renee (Ronald) Whited of Monterey, daughter Kendra (Rick) Guinn of Smithville, grandchildren Macy (Justin) Nokes of Smithville, Trey (Brianna) Guinn of Sparta, Mackenley (Tia) Turner of Smithville, Nikolas Agee (Ashlyn) Agee of Smithville, Elizabeth Guinn of Smithville, Zoe Guinn of Smithville, & Destiny Guinn of Smithville, brother Joe Stone of Smithville, sisters Mary Bailey of Alexandria and Bobbie Fite of Lebanon, and special great-nephew Adam Davis, and many other nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 22nd, 2-7 pm and Wednesday, August 23rd, 12-3:30 pm. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 23rd at 3:30 pm. Mr. Stone will be interred at DeKalb Memorial Gardens.

Gene Eric Dolby

61 year old Gene Eric Dolby was born March 6, 1962 in Wabash, Indiana to Loren Howard Dolby and departed this life August 19, 2023 at Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital in Lebanon. He was the Foundry Manager for General Aluminum. The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Chapel of Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria. B. J. Thomason will officiate and burial will be in Hillview Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 1 to 7 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m. until the service time at 11 a.m. He is preceded by his Father, Loren Howard Dolby, 1 brother and son-in-law. He leaves behind his wife of 28 years, Terra Dolby of Lebanon, His children, Nick (Cassie) Dolby of Deatsville, AL., Amanda Chrisman of Huntington, IN., Chris (Amanda) Dolby of Gordonsville and Alexandra Ingram of Lebanon. His Grandchildren, Mickensey, Kyleigh, Jericca, Luke, Hunter, Madison, Eli, Jack and Addy. He also leaves behind 3 Great-Grandchildren, 4 Sisters, 4 Brothers, his step-mother, Margaret and his Special Mom, Betty Dyer. Carol Ann Moore

August 18, 2023

Mrs. Carol Ann Moore, age 66 of Searcy, Arizona, passed away on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at White Co. / Unity Hospital in Arizona. After a long battle in the hospital she is now at peace in the arms of Jesus in whom she believed in with all her heart. She was of the Church of Christ faith and retired from 21st Century Christian Publishing Company which was co-founded by her father.

Mrs. Moore was born on June 8, 1957 in Nashville, TN to her parents, Winston & Martha Moore which preceded her in death. She was a graduate of David Lipscomb High School. She worked in several different administration and management capacities over the years at 21st Century Christian Publishing Company. She loved her dogs, Sweetie 1 and Sweetie 2 and like to keep up with conservative politics.

She is survived by her son, Chris Parker and brother, Larry Moore.

The family will have a private graveside service at Town Cemetery where she will be laid to rest by her mother and father.




Corey Shane Nicholson

Corey Shane Nicholson age 52 of Smithville passed away at his residence Friday, August 18, 2023. He was born September 22, 1970, to his mother, Judy Bratcher Hughes and his father, the late, Louis “Nick” Nicholson. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a sister, Sherry Vanmeter, and brother, Leonard Nicholson. Mr. Nicholson was a United States Army Veteran and worked as a Welder at Tenneco Automotive. He is survived by his wife, Gracie Nicholson of Smithville; children, Trever Nicholson of Smyrna, Gaberille Miller of Murfreesboro, John Hayes of Sparta, Madison (Shawn) Cline of Smithville and Gracelynn Nicholson of Smithville. grandchildren, Timothy Nicholson, Madilynn Barrett, Marilynn Cline, and Maverick Cline; mother, Judy (David) Hughes of Murfreesboro; sisters, Rhonda (Gary) Ryan of Smyrna, Sheri (Billy) Bickford of Lascassas, Carrie (David) Hughes of Shelbyville, Elizabeth Hughes of Murfreesboro; father-in-law Ronald Ferrell, Sr. and mother-in-law, Peggy Ferrell, brother-in-law, Ronald Ferrell, Jr. Funeral service will be held 1 PM Monday, August 21, 2023, at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Darrell Gill officiating with Military Honors and burial to follow in Mt. Holly Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday 10:AM until the time of the service at 1 PM. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements




Norman Arlo Emmert

Norman Arlo Emmert, 84, of Smithville passed from this life on August 16, 2023.

Norman was known by many nicknames: Norm, Butterbean, Bean, and to his nieces and nephews, Uncle Shorty. He was born May 19, 1939, in Aiken, MN to his parents, the late, Lawrence and Louise Winters Emmert. After graduating from Montevideo High School in 1957, Norman served his country in the Air Force from 1958 to 1962. While he was stationed at the base in Smyrna, TN, he was introduced to Mackie Ann Martin. They were married March 30, 1963, and resided in Smithville. He retired from Mallory Controls in Sparta and spent many years farming at their home and serving as a member of Smithville Church of Christ. During his retirement years, Norman was an avid supporter of the DeKalb County High School sports teams, and especially the Tigerette softball program where many home runs were rewarded by their biggest fan.

In addition to his parents, Norman was preceded in death by his wife: Mackie Ann Emmert; Siblings: Ray Emmert, Ramona Larson, Eugene Emmert, Donald Emmert and Rose Margaret Emmert.

Norman is survived by his daughters Andria (Thomas) Turner of Madison, AL and Norma Lynn Emmert of Smithville, sister-in-law Thelma Martin of Smithville, along with several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Norman will be held 2 PM Sunday at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Dan Gulley officiating and burial to follow in the Bonham Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Saturday from 3 PM until 6 PM and Sunday 1PM until the time of service at 2 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the DeKalb County Tigerette Softball program, Smithville Church of Christ Work Camp fund, or your favorite Veteran’s Organization.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff of Smithville NHC and Gentiva Hospice for their excellent care and support in Norman’s later years. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Patricia Marie Gay

August 18, 2023

Mrs. Patricia Marie Gay, age 69 of Smithville, passed away Thursday afternoon at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital ER. She was a Methodist and retired from Ingram Book Company.

She was born on August 22, 1953 in Canton, Illinois to her parents, Robert and Hazel Hoffmann who preceded her in death.

The family has chosen direct cremation and there will be no visitation.

Survivors of Mrs. Gay include her husband, David Mike Gay Sr of Smithville, Daughter, Heather (Jeramey) Anderson of Ooltewah, Step-son, Mike (Angie) Gay of Alexandria, Grandchildren, Addison, Avery & AJ Anderson of Ooltewah, Michelle Gay (Evan) Ward of Alexandria, Sister, Kathy Halterman of Missouri. Also all of her mermaid and lake friends.
