Jimmy Ray Turner

Mr. Jimmy Ray Turner, age 89, of Alexandria, TN passed away on Friday, June 30, 2023, at Alive Hospice in Murfreesboro, TN.

Mr. Turner was born August 5, 1933, in Woodbury, TN, a son of the late Howard Brown Turner and Pearl Ford Turner. He graduated Liberty High School in 1954 and married Margaret Lynn Foutch on December 9, 1955, and she preceded him in death on June 26, 2023 after 68 years of marriage. He was also preceded in death by two brothers: Nolan Turner and Bratton Turner and his wife Annie. Mr. Turner worked for Avco for 30 plus years and after retirement worked for Travel Centers of America. He was a member of Alexandria First Baptist Church where he served as church secretary.

Mr. Turner is survived by siblings Willie Turner of Alexandria, TN, Joe (Velma) Turner of Auburntown, TN, Faye Evans of Georgia, Jean Hope of Murfreesboro, TN, and Don (Gail) Turner of Smithville, TN; sister-in-law Polly Turner of Smithville, TN; family members who cared for him; His Girls: Emily (Andy) Turbeville and their children, Kyleigh (Caleb) Stanley and their son Bayler, Jordyn Turbeville, Carson Turbeville and Amelia Grace Turbeville; Jessica (Matt) Stanley and their children, Turner Stanley and Tillie Kate Stanley; Tammy (Tony) Baird, Tina (Ronnie) Ford, Cathy (Gary) Tyree, Darlene (Larry) Marlin, David (Roenia) Turner, and numerous other family members.

Mr. Turner is at Avant Funeral Home in Alexandria, TN. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday July 7, 2023 at 4PM at the First Baptist Church, Alexandria, TN with Bro. Billy Friel and Bro. Gary Rickman officiating. Interment will be in Hillview Memorial Cemetery.

The Turner family will receive friends on Thursday July 6, 2023 from 4 PM until 8 PM and on Friday July 7, 2023 from 12 Noon until service time at 4 PM at the Alexandria First Baptist Church.

Memorial donations in Mr. Turner’s memory may be made to the Alexandria First Baptist Church Youth Music Fund.




Ethan Raine Cantrell

Ethan Raine Cantrell
Age 23, of Smithville and Belk community passed away Sunday evening, June 11th, 2023. He was born on July 21, 1999 to parents Rachel Cantrell and Travis Cantrell.

He was preceded in death by his father Travis Cantrell, great grandfather Than “Ta Ta” Cantrell, grandfather Kenneth “Papa” Cantrell, bonus grandfather Billy “Pa” Cantrell, and uncle Bobby Cantrell.

Survivors include mother Rachel Cantrell, step father Daryl Cantrell, sisters Mariea, Hannah, Hope, and Hailey Cantrell, grandparents Teresa and Harvey Cantrell, Kathy Cantrell, step grandmother Linda Cantrell, uncle Charles (Amber) Cantrell, and aunt Alexandria (Matthew) Carpenter,

Ethan was as lover of all people and his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Memorial and celebration of life will be held this Saturday July, 1 2023 at 1 pm at Snow Hill Baptist Church in Dowelltown. All who knew and loved Ethan are welcome!




J. C. Carter

J. C. Carter, age 87, of Lawrenceburg, TN passed away Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia, TN. He was a native of Dekalb County, TN, retired supervisor from Tom’s Distributing Company, and a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, C. J. and Gladys Cantrell Carter.

He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Paulette Carter of Lawrenceburg, TN; one daughter, Angie Farr (Johnny) of Lawrenceburg, TN; three sons, Steve Gwalen Carter (Krystal) of Lawrenceburg, TN, Chris Carter (Linda) of Ethridge, TN, and Bruce Carter (Susan) of Lexington, TN; one sister, Shirley Mathis (Dwight) of Liberty, TN; ten grandchildren; and twenty-five great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are being handled by Neal Funeral Home, 231 N. Military Avenue, Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday, June 30, 2023, at Neal Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at Neal Funeral Home at 11:00 AM Saturday, July 01, 2023, with Kenneth Tramel officiating. Interment will follow at Mimosa Cemetery in Lawrenceburg, TN. Judith Goodwin Allen

June 29, 2023

Judith Goodwin Allen age 77, passed away at her residence on Saturday, June 24, 2023, She was born May 8, 1946 to her parents the late Wyatt and Gwendolyn Goskins Hicks. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first and second husbands, Roger Goodwin and Steve Allen. Ms. Judith was a member of the Pisgah United Methodist Church, and a factory worker. She is survived by her children, Kimberly (Aaron) Ammons of FL, Jeffrey Goodwin of Mt. Juliet and Kathy (Jerry) Greathouse of Liberty; grandchildren, Brian (Stephanie) Pack, Misty Wilson, Gunnison (Lydia) Goodwin, Garrison Goodwin, Grace An Goodwin, Tavia (Jonathan) Gilbert, Makayla Easterwood, Lauren Greathouse; 10 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson; special friend, Frank Doyle Evans; sister, Joyce Wojtowicz. The family has honored Ms. Allen’s request to be cremated and a Graveside Memorial Service will be 1 PM at DeKalb Memorial Gardens with Bro. Michael Hale officiating. There will not be any services or visitation at the funeral home. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery for the service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Alive Hospice Patients Care in memory of Ms. Judith. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.




Danny Thomas Long

Mr. Danny Thomas Long, age 70, passed away at his residence in Smithville on Saturday, June 24, 2023. He was a retired truck driver and attended Martin Chapel Fellowship Church. He was an Army veteran and had a love of the great outdoors.

He was born on May 17, 1953 in Atlanta, GA to his parents Alvin & JoAnn Long who preceded him in death. He is also preceded in death by 2 sisters, Sandra Carr and Sherri Boyer.

Visitation with the Long family will be on Saturday, July 1, 2023 from noon until the funeral service at 2:00. Pastor Carol Ann Richardson will be officiating. There will be no burial. The family has chosen cremation following the services.

Survivors include his fiance, Kimmberly Wright Griffin of Smithville, 1 son, Danny (Jessica) Long of AL, 1 daughter, Nikki Long of TX, 4 grandchildren, Alicia Coronado, Emily Jacobs, Brad Pena and Mason Long, 1 sister, Brenda Peterson of McMinnville.

Johnnie Mai Hancock Watson

Johnnie Mai Hancock Watson age 84 of Donelson, died Monday, June 26, 2023 at St. Thomas Dekalb Hospital in Smithville. Born Oct. 20, 1938, she was the daughter of the late John Clarence Hancock and Gladys Mai Dunn Hancock and was preceded in death by her husband, Vern Wright Watson and her son, Philip Watson. Johnnie was a retired employee of SunTrust Bank and a member of Hermitage Hills Baptist Church. She is survived by her brother, Dan Hancock and his wife, Norma of Smithville and their children, Delynn (Tim) Burgess, Sharon Hancock, Jeff Hancock and Wade (Mary) Hancock and their children, Emma and Grady; daughter-in-law, Linda Watson of Mt. Juliet; sister-in-law, Gale (Jimmy) McKnight and their daughter, Kristin Jackson. Graveside services and interment will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 29, 2023 at Prosperity Cemetery with Dr. Poly Rouse officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. till Noon on Thursday at Hunter Funeral Home. Pallbearers, Jeff, Wade and Grady Hancock, Bobby Howard, Ricky Knight and Franklin Martin.
