Kayla Rena Sanders

Kayla Rena Sanders age 35 passed away Monday night, September 16, 2024 in Smithville. She was born February 14, 1989, to her mother, Roxann Gibbs Sanders Hunt and her late father, Milton Glen Sanders. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by grandparents, Billy and Shirley Gibbs, Lavada Sauls and Henry Sanders. Kayla attended Long Branch Community Church and was a restaurant worker. She is survived by 2 children, Westyn Reece Griffin and Millee Rae-Ann Griffin both of Smithville; mother, Roxann (Mark) Hunt of Smithville; sister, Amanda (Steven) Peyatt of Carthage; niece, Paisley Jernigan of Carthage; several aunts, uncles and cousins also survive. Funeral services will be held 1PM Friday September 20, 2024, at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Steve Waller officiating and burial to follow in DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday 10:AM until the time of the service at 1 PM. The family ask in lieu of flowers, donations be made to DeKalb Funeral Chapel to help with funeral expenses. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is honored to care for the Sanders family.




Mark Alan Moore

September 18, 2024

Mr. Mark Alan Moore, age 55, of Rock Island, Tennessee was born in Winchester, TN on May 17, 1969 and passed away on September 18, 2024 at his residence. He attended Long Mountain Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father Leslie H. Moore.

Mark is survived by his mother Gail Moore Grosch, step-father Dale Grosch, brother Paul (Joann) Moore and Jonathan (Crystal) Moore, sister Abigail (Eric) Wood, nieces and nephews Caleb Wood, Aniston Wood, Jordan Moore, Nathaniel Moore, Anthony Moore, Hailey Moore, and Levi Moore, step brothers Zachary (Sabrina) Grosch and Timothy Grosch, four step-nieces and step nephews, and the staff at Pace Setters.

Funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Friday, September 20, 2024, at New Union The Baptist Church. Brent Craven, Donald Gregory, and Eric Wood will officiate. Interment will follow at New Union Cemetery. The family of Mark Moore will receive friends on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. at the parlors of McMinnville Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to McMinnville Funeral Home to assist the family with funeral expenses.

Mitchell Adcock

September 18, 2024

Mitchell Adcock, age 88 of Smithville, passed away on Wednesday afternoon, September 18, at his residence. He was a baptist, served in the U.S. Air Force and worked in the vinyl siding business in his earlier years. His most recent job was working in collections at the DeKalb County land fields.

He was born on June 9, 1936 in Smithville, TN. He was preceded in death by his parents; Otis & Bessie Adcock, son; Charles Adcock, daughter; Loretta Adcock and grandson; Michael Adcock, 1 sister and 5 brothers.

The family will have a graveside service on Friday at 11:00 am at Jefferson Cemetery. Everyone will meet at the cemetery. Bro. Johnny Adcock will officiate.

Survivors include his loving wife of 66 years; Imogene Adcock, 2 grandsons; Shannon (Jennifer) Adcock, Anthony (Tammy) Adcock, 1 great-grandson; Nate Adcock, son-in-law; Larry Adcock all of Smithville. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Leo Grant Ashburn

September 17, 2024

Leo Grant Ashburn, age 83 of Smithville, passed away Sunday evening at NHC in Smithville. He was a member of the Church of Christ, worked as a chemist, a pilot for Ingram Oil, and a contractor. He was a 1959 graduate of DCHS and a graduate of Tennessee Tech University with a degree in chemistry.

Mr. Ashburn was born on May 17, 1941 in Smithville, TN to his parents, the late James Leo and Zora Cantrell Ashburn. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by 1 brother, Joe Phillip Ashburn and 1 sister, Jelaska Close.

The family has honored Mr. Ashburn’s wishes to be cremated with a private graveside service being held at a later date.

Survivors include 1 son, Stephen Ashburn of Smithville; mother of his son, Lynn Rooker of Murfreesboro; 1 sister, Carolyn (Woody) Adcock of Smithville; 2 brothers, Mark (Evelena) Ashburn of Smithville and James Thomas Johnson of New Mexico.

The family ask that donations please be made to St. Jude Childrens Hospital, or Church of Christ Disaster Relief in memory of Mr. Ashburn.

John Lynzy Mingle

September 13, 2024

John Lynzy Mingle, age 58 of Smithville, passed away Thursday night at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital. He attended Old Fashion Free will Baptist Church and was a dump truck operator with Faulk Trucking.

He was born on February 7, 1966 in Smithville. He is preceded in death by his parents; Bobby and Paulette Mason Mingle.

Visitation with the Mingle family will be on Saturday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm and Sunday 11:00 am to the service time at 2:00 in the chapel of Love-Cantrell. Bro. Billy Martin will officiate and burial will be in the Sycamore Cemetery.

Survivors include his fiance; Melissa Glenn of Smithville, 3 sons; Dustin (Samantha) Mingle of McMinnville, Justin Mingle of Gassaway, and Nathan Mingle of McMinnville, Bonus children; James Glenn of Smithville, AJ (Emma Daugherty) Glenn of Sparta and Hailey (Sean) Booth of Smithville, 6 grandchildren; Zoie Mingle of Auburntown, Matthew Mingle of Gassaway, Jeffery and Lynzy Mingle of McMinnville, Tinley Booth of Smithville and Sammy Glenn of Sparta, 1 sister; Felisa (Steven) Coppinger of Woodland, 2 brothers; Bobby (Priscilla) Mingle of Smithville and Billy (Donna) Mingle of Woodbury.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations please be made to Love-Cantrell to help with expenses.




Robert Harold Murphy

September 11, 2024

Robert Harold Murphy, age 77 of Smithville, passed away Tuesday night at NHC Healthcare in Smithville. He was a farmer and of the Baptist faith.

Mr. Murphy was born on September 6, 1947 in Smithville, TN. He was preceded in death by his parents; Arthur Lee “Doc” & Cathleen Crook Murphy and 5 brothers; Ralph, James, David, Jeffery and Ricky Murphy.

Visitation with the Murphy family will be on Saturday from 10:30 am until the funeral service at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Cannady Cemetery.

Survivors include; 2 sons; Michael (Crystal) Murphy of Crossville, Darrell Murphy (Amy Scott), 1 daughter; Melinda Murphy all of Smithville, 4 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, brother; Kenneth (Gayle) Murphy of FL, 2 sisters; Kathy Murphy of Shelbyville and Fay (Sam) Baker of Sparta, mother of his children; Clara Murphy of Smithville.
