Vivian Delores Cantrell Stock

November 21, 2022

Vivian Delores Cantrell Stock of Smithville, TN, passed surrounded by her beloved family on Sunday, November 20, 2022. She was born November 14, 1947 in Chattanooga, TN, to Russell Evans & Billye Ruth Cantrell. She was a member of First Baptist Church Smithville where for over 20 years she faithfully led a Women’s Bible Study. She previously attended and served in many capacities at First Baptist Lafayette, First Baptist Gallatin, Southside Baptist, and First Baptist Mt. Juliet. She was a Vanderbilt alumnus and retired Registered Nurse as well as a respected teacher, accomplished needleworker, pianist, and avid gardener. Her family always came first and her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her greatest joy and treasure.

Funeral services for Mrs. Vivian will be on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at 11am. Bro. Mark Bass will officiate and burial will be at DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be Tuesday from 4-8pm and on Wednesday from 9am until the service at 11am.

Mrs. Stock was preceded in death by her parents, Russell Evans Cantrell and Billye Ruth Cantrell. Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Walter Vance Stock of Smithville, TN. Children, AmyBeth and Randy McBride of Maryville, TN, Jennifer and Brian Ledbetter of Cookeville, TN, Stephen and Jamie Stock of Franklin, TN, and Marilynn and Michael Mitchell of Murfreesboro, TN. Grandchildren, Russell Thompson of Murfreesboro, TN, Walter and Margaret Thompson of Maryville, TN, B.J. and Mariah Ledbetter of Maineville, OH, Vivian and Zach Benzon of Chapel Hill, TN, Emma and Champion Buckler of Cookeville, TN, Eric Mitchell of Murfreesboro, TN, Ryan and Jessica Mitchell of Cookeville, TN, and Isaac, Colton, and Camryn Stock of Franklin, TN. Great grandchildren, Lyla and James Ledbetter of Maineville, OH.

Tressia Lanay Luna

November 18, 2022

Mrs. Tressia Lanay Luna age 65 of Smithville, TN passed away on Thursday, November 17, 2022 at TriStar Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, TN.

Mrs. Luna was born on August 21, 1957 in Smithville, TN to her parents, Eva Barnes Stephens and the late Joe Lane Taylor. Also preceding her in death is a son, Gregory Brice Luna. She was a factory worker and a member of Mt. Hope The Baptist Church.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, November 20, 2022 at 1:30pm from the chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Jefferson Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held on Saturday, from 1pm-8pm & Sunday, from 11am until the time of services at 1:30pm.

Survivors include her husband, of almost 50 years, Robert Luna of Smithville, TN. Daughter, Regina (Shane) Turner of Smithville, TN. 2 Sons, Justin Luna of Smithville, TN & Allen Luna of Alabama. Mother, Eva Stephens of Nashville, TN. Sister, Lytres (Gary) Osborne of Smithville, TN. 2 Sisters-in-law, Judy (Ricky) Bowman of Gordonsville, TN & Doris Flickinger of Smithville, TN. Grandchildren, Darrian (James) Harper of Sparta, TN, Elainia Turner of Smithville, TN & James Luna of Knoxville, TN. 2 Great Grandchildren, Alex Turner & Carson Harper both of Sparta, TN. and special uncle James Barnes of Lascassas.

Jerry Luna

November 14, 2022

Jerry Luna age 68, of Sparta, passed away Saturday, November 12, 2022 at Cookeville Regional Hospital. He was born October 18, 1954 to his parents the late Riley and Ruth Minnear Luna. Mr. Luna was affiliated with Johnson’s Chapel Baptist Church and worked as a Carpenter. He is survived by his wife, Debra Luna of Sparta; son, Shannon Luna of Sparta; siblings, Linda Herman of Sparta and Danny Luna of Sparta. Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 17, 2022 at 1:00 PM at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Bernard Houk and Bro. Paul Taylor officiating and burial to follow in Johnson’s Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday 4:00 PM till 7:00 PM and on Thursday 11:00 AM until the time of the service at 1:00 PM. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.




Baby Kai Navy Lattimore

November 13, 2022

Baby Kai Navy Lattimore was born on November 9, 2022 to his parents Justin and Deidre Lattimore and passed into the arms of God one day later on November 10, 2022 at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital in Nashville. The family will hold a private graveside service this week at Whorton Springs Cemetery. Baby Lattimore is survived by his parents, Justin and Deidre Lattimore of Murfreesboro; 1 brother, Greyson Elijah Lattimore of Murfressboro; Paternal Grandparents, Johnny and Melinda Lattimore of Smithville; Maternal Grandparents, Eric and Donna Ransom of Jackson, TN; 1 uncle, Jason and Amy Lattimore of Smithville; 2 aunts, Shannon Ransom, and Desiree “Pep Pep” Ransom of Jackson, TN; and one special cousin, Nora Beck Lattimore.

Jo Ann Judd

November 13, 2022

80 year old Jo Ann Judd passed away Friday November 11, 2022 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

She was a retired seamstress and a member of Johnson Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held on Monday November 14, 2022 @1pm at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home.  Bro. Tim Judd and Bro. Clint Walker will officiate and burial will be in the Johnson Chapel Cemetery.  Visitation will be Sunday from 3pm until 8pm and on Monday from 11am until the time of services at 1pm.

Mrs. Judd is preceded in death by her parents Enoch and Emma Williams Stover; 3 brothers, Arthur, Sherman, and Milton Stover; 2 Sisters, Alta Cole and June Harron; and a special friend, Brenda Marmon.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Elmore Judd of Sparta; 1 son, Tim (Christy) Judd of Walling; 2 Daughters, Cindy Roberts of Sparta, and Samantha (Ernie) Hargis of Baxter; 7 Grandchildren, Michelle and Clint Walker, Kerrie and Chris Stone, Casey and Raquel McCloud, Sierra Adkins, Chet Hargis, Marie Mosley, Justin & Sara Worrix; 7 Great-Grandchildren, Madilyn Walker, Cameron Walker, Lena Young, Taylan McCloud, Nichole McCloud, Waylan Worrix, and Aria Worrix; 2 brothers, Earl Stover, and Hobert Stover; 4 sisters, Reba Henley, Helen Stover, Nellie Boswell, and Ester Bilyeu; a special friend, Thelma Martin, also survives.

In addition to flowers, donations can be made to the Johnson Chapel Cemetery fund in memory of Mrs. Judd.

James Pirtle

November 10, 2022

88 year old James Pirtle of Smithville passed away Thursday, November 10, 2022 at his residence. He was a retired owner and operator of Pirtle’s Nursery, former truck driver, and a Baptist. Mr. Pirtle was a Army Veteran, a Mason (Lodge #77), 32nd degree Scottish Rite, and former ambassador of the Shriner club. Funeral services with military honors will be held on Saturday, November 12th, 2022 @ 6pm. A private burial will be held for the family at Banks Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be on Friday from 3pm until 8pm, and on Saturday from 10am until the service time at 6pm. A masonic service will also be held on Saturday at 5pm.

Mr. Pirtle was preceded in death by his parents, James Pirtle and Maggie Keith Braswell, 3 grandchildren, Jeremy Caldwell, Joshua Caldwell and Courtney Pirtle, 3 sisters, Donna Sue Lawson, Faye and Jimmy Smith, Sandra and Earl Houk, 2 brothers, Eugene Evans and William Pirtle, 3 sons-in-law, Ronnie Hale, Jim Haley and Michael Caldwell and a special friend, Keith Petriquin.

Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Ruth Houk Pirtle, 1 son, Danny (Melissa) Pirtle, 1 daughter, Judy Hale, 4 grandchildren, Trista (Jake) Bond, Danny (Kayla) Pirtle Jr., Matthew Hale, Amy Hale, Julie (Kenny) Vincent, 4 great-grandchildren, Michael Caldwell, Christopher (Beverly Knauer) Caldwell, Michael Bond and Lettie Bond, bro-in-law, Tony Lawson, special friends, Pete Kasoudji and Carroll Irby. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Donations can be made to Shriner’s Hospital in memory of Mr. Pirtle.
