Ruth Cantrell Prinzivalle

Ruth Cantrell Prinzivalle age 90, of Smithville, passed away Tuesday September 27, 2022, at her residence. Ruth was born December 29, 1931, to her parents, the late Fred Parker and Beulah Frances Ponder Cantrell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Vincent Prinzivalle; siblings, Bill, Lawrence, and Frank Cantrell, Ruby Ballard, and Nell Connolly. She was a former member of the Order of the Easter Star and worked at Champion Sparkplugs in Detroit. Ruth is survived by daughter, Kim (Steve) Nash of Smithville; stepson, Nick Prinzivalli of Michigan; sisters-in-law, Mary Cantrell Lawson and Jane Cantrell both of Smithville; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Thursday, September 29, 2022, at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Michael Hale officiating and burial to follow in Burton-Ponder Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday September 29, 2022, 10:AM until the time of the service at 2 PM. In addition to flowers donations may be made to the DeKalb Animal Shelter or St. Jude Children’s Hospital in memory of Mrs. Ruth. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.




Yuri Lidia Guerra Desirena

September 28, 2022

The funeral for 39-year-old Yuri Lidia Guerra Desirena of Smithville and a native of Mexico will be Thursday at 5 p.m. at the Smithville First Assembly of God with visitation Thursday 2 PM until 5 PM. Following the service, she will be taken back to Mexico for burial. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Lee Oma Harris

September 26, 2022

Funeral services for Lee Oma Harris, 90, of Smithville, TN, will be Wednesday, September 28 at 1 PM at the Baxter Chapel of Hooper Huddleston Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Smellage Memory Gardens in the Boma Community of Putnam County. Bro. John Pippin will officiate. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 11 AM until service time at the funeral home..

Mrs. Harris died Sunday morning, September 25, 2022 at the home of her daughter in Clarksville, TN.

She was born December 24, 1931 in Silver Point to the late Bailey Owen and Ethel Avo Shanks Carr.

Lee Oma was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening, working in her flowers. She also liked listening to TALK Radio, painting oil portraits and watching the hummingbirds. She also went to Smithville Senior Citizens.

She was a graduate of Baxter Seminary and attended Draughons Business College.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Marlon “Marty” Dale Harris, sister Regina Olivo, brothers Owen D., Darrell., David and Arvin Carr.

Survivors include husband of 66 years (Married December 23, 1955) Billy Everett Harris of Smithville, daughter and son-in-law Jill and James Somerville of Clarksville, grandson Sean Everett Somerville, sister and brother-in-law Tommie and Jim Driver of Bowling Green, Ky, several nieces and nephews.

Randy Gilley

September 23, 2022

Randy Gilley age 63, of Smithville passed away Tuesday August 30, 2022, at St. Thomas Mid-Town Hospital. He was born June 27, 1959, to his parents the late James Garland and Ethel Mae Hale Gilley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Betty Gilley Young, Mark and Stevie Young. Mr. Gilley was a member of Cave Springs Missionary Baptist Church and worked at the Rock Crusher in Liberty for 13 years and for DeKalb County Highway Department for 16 years. He is survived by his wife, Joannia Thompson of Smithville; stepchildren, Lee Ann Brakeall of Alexandria, Joseph Thomason, Jr. of Smithville, and Dewayne Thomason of McMinnville; granddaughter, Brittany (Cody) Harrell; nieces, Leslie (Charles) Martin of Smithville, and Amanda Young of McMinnville; special cousin, Kenneth (Marie) Derting of Liberty. A Graveside Memorial Service will be held 2 PM Sunday, September 25, 2022, at Salem Cemetery with Bro. Michael Hale officiating. There will not be any visitation or services at the funeral home. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.




Jackie Trapp

Jackie Trapp age 70, passed away Tuesday September 20, 2022 at Viviant Healthcare of Shelbyville. He was born September 5, 1952 to his parents, Clarence and Mildred Wright Trapp. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Jarvis Trapp; grandparents, Jackson and Avo Trapp and Eston and Drussi Wright; uncles, Clyde Trapp and Cless Trapp. Mr. Trapp was affiliated with Bethel Baptist Church, he served in the Army National Guard, and was the Owner of Trapp’s Produce. He is survived by daughter, Michelle Cantrell (Paul Cantrell) of Smithville; son, Tony (Amanda) Trapp of Smithville; grandchildren, Brittany Wilkerson (Brennan Downey) of Knoxville, Anthony Gage Trapp, Kylee Cantrell, Holden Trapp, and Bryson Trapp; sister, Judy Agee of Smithville; brothers, Jerry Trapp of Dibrell, Jimmy Trapp of Dibrell, Johnny Trapp of Smithville, Joe Trapp of Pleasant Shade; several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive; the mother of his children, Vicky Bogle. The family has honored Mr. Trapp’s request to be cremated. A Memorial Service to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to DeKalb Funeral Chapel help with funeral expenses. Craig Carpenter

Mr. Craig R. Carpenter passed away peacefully, Sunday morning, September 18, 2022, after a brief stay at NHC Healthcare of Smithville.

Craig lived in many different places and had so many different types of life experiences that it is impossible in just a few words to tell. He was born in Amarillo Texas. Later his family moved to Dallas Texas where, with his brothers and sisters, enjoyed country living including horses and outdoor activities. Then, his family moved to Ft Lauderdale Florida where life was so different, with beaches, boating and surfing; then as an adult he moved to the country outside of Liberty Tennessee where he enjoyed gardening and being a cattleman; then eventually moving to Smithville Tennessee. Craigs lifetime occupations were Real-estate and as an Ultrasound Technician.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Carpenter and mother, Mary “Janie” Carpenter and a half-brother, Johnny Lee Carpenter. He is survived by: step-mother, Karen Kay Carpenter of Smithville (previous owner of Sundance Restaurant); sisters, Melody Carpenter-Jaquinta of Liberty, Karon (Lisa) Noon of Florida; brother, Michael (Mary Anne) Carpenter of Liberty; half sisters: Sharon Carpenter of Missouri and Shauna (Bill) Green of Georgia; half-brothers: James (Julie) Biggerstaff of Arkansas, John Rex Phillips of Texas and Kirk Carpenter of Virginia; nephews, Michael (Dedra) Carpenter, Matthew (Alex) Carpenter, Logan Carpenter; niece, Micah Carpenter and a great niece Molly Carpenter of Smithville.

Craig was truly a renaissance man who, over the years, proved his broad knowledge and skills in so many ways. Some of his hobbies and interests over the years were: Flying, Surfing, Boating, Motocross Racing, IDPA Pistol and Rifle Marksmanship, Wado-ryu Karate, Flint-knapping, Cattleman, Making Indian Jewelry and Woodturning.

As a boy Craig attended church with his family at North Lake Baptist Church of Dallas where he pronounced his faith in Christ and was baptized. He attended church in Smithville sporadically with his brother and sister. He was also a Mason at the Liberty Lodge.

Memorial Services will be held on Friday, October 7, 2022 at 11am at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home, 100 East Church St. Smithville, TN. Visitation with the family will be on Friday, October 7, 2022 from 9am until the time of the services at 11am.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lighthouse Christian Camp or to the DeKalb Animal Coalition in memory of Craig.
