Randy Gilley

Randy Gilley age 63, of Smithville passed away Tuesday August 30, 2022, at St. Thomas Mid-Town Hospital. He was born June 27, 1959, to his parents the late James Garland and Ethel Mae Hale Gilley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Betty Gilley Young, Mark and Stevie Young. Mr. Gilley was a member of Cave Springs Missionary Baptist Church and worked at the Rock Crusher in Liberty for 13 years and for DeKalb County Highway Department for 16 years. He is survived by his wife, Joannia Thomason of Smithville; stepchildren, Lee Ann Brakeall of Alexandria, Joseph Thomason, Jr. of Smithville, and Dewayne Thomason of McMinnville; granddaughter, Brittany (Cody) Harrell; nieces, Leslie (Charles) Martin of Smithvillle, and Amanda Young of McMinnville; special cousin, Kenneth (Marie) Derting of Liberty. A graveside Memorial Service will be held at a later date at Salem Cemetery with Bro. Michael Hale officiating. There will not be any visitation held. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.




Janie Elizabeth Watson

September 1, 2022

Mrs. Janie Elizabeth Watson, age 90, of McMinnville, TN, died Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at her residence. She was born October 20, 1931, in Smithville, TN, was a retired employee of U.T. Extension Service, a member of Smithville First United Methodist Church, and was preceded in death by parents Bernard “J. B.” and Alta Tramel Summers, husband Ralph Watson, sister Jean Sain Barry, and brothers Ewin, Dean, and Bill Summers. Janie was known for collecting cook books, her love of cooking, and always enjoyed entertaining her family and friends with delicious food.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law Darryl (Tracy) Watson, two grandsons John (Erica) Watson and David (Peyton) Watson, and three great-granddaughters Addisyn, Piper, and Devin Watson.

Funeral service will be at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, September 03, 2022, in the McMinnville Funeral Home Chapel. Mark Summers will officiate. Interment will follow at Mt. View Cemetery. The Watson Family will receive friends Friday evening from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and again Saturday from 11:00 A.M. until 2:00 P.M. at the parlors of McMinnville Funeral Home.

Frances Louise Wallace

August 29, 2022

Frances Louise Wallace age 97 of Smithville and a formerly of Antioch, passed away Saturday August 27, 2022, at St. Thomas RiverPark Hospital in McMinnville. She was born June 6, 1925, to her parents, the late Thomas Levi and Willie Moore Augusta Boner McClendon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, John Thomas Wallace, who passed away in May of 2016. Ms. Frances was a went to school in Antioch, was a Baptist and a homemaker. She is survived by her extended family, the residents and staff of the Webb House. Graveside services and interment will be 11:AM Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at Hermitage Memorial Gardens with Bro. Michael Hale officiating. There will not be any services or visitation at the funeral home. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Wade Smith Jr.

August 28, 2022

Mr. Wade Smith, Jr. age 79 of Smithville, TN passed away on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at St. Thomas Midtown Hospital in Nashville, TN.

Mr. Smith was born on June 23, 1943 in Alexandria, TN to his parents, the late Wade, Sr & Carrie Helen Griffith Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a Brother, Edward Wayne Smith & 2 Sisters, Carrie Dean Bass & Barbara Ann Smith. Wade served his country in the United States Army and he later worked at T.R.W. retiring in 2003. He was a member of Northside Church of Christ & also served as a Zoning Commissioner and on the Planning Commission for the City of Smithville.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, September 1, 2022 at 2pm from the chapel of Love – Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will follow at DeKalb Memorial Gardens with Military Honors provided by the Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation with the family will be on Wednesday from 5-8pm & on Thursday, from 12noon until the service time at 2pm.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jacqueline Neal Smith of Smithville, TN. 2 Sons, Christopher Wade (Mary Carlene) Smith of Murfreesboro, TN & Brandon Edward Smith of Smithville, TN. 2 Grandchildren, Salena & Nate Smith both of Murfreesboro, TN. 2 Brothers, James (Mary) Smith of Alexandria, TN & Billy Ray Smith of Nashville, TN. Fred Stanley

August 27, 2022

Fred Stanley age 77 of Nashville, passed away on Friday August 26, 2022. He was preceded in death by brothers-in-law, Mckinley Jones, W. J. Tramel and J. B. Taylor; sister-in-law, Ruth Taylor. Mr. Stanley was a member of Donelson First Baptist Chruch, member of Jerry Baxter Eastern Star, and McWhirtersville No. 375 Mason Lodge, and worked as a carpenter in construction work. He is survived by wife, Linda Stanley of Nashville; daughter, Myra Kay Lancaster of Florida; son, Christopher Stanley of Florida; sisters-in-law, Marguerite Jones of Liberty and Jane Tramel of AL.; several special nieces and nephews also survive. Graveside service and interment will be held Monday, August 29, 2022 at 11:00AM at DeKalb Memorial Gardens with Bro. Jeffery Smith officiating. There will be no visitation held. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery for the graveside service at 11:AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Donelson First Baptist Church or take your family out to eat. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.




Leigh Brian Felmley

August 23, 2022

Leigh Brian Felmley age 53, of Smithville, formerly of California, passed away Sunday August 21, 2022 at his residence. He was born April 3, 1969 to his parents Neil Brian Felmley and Michele Sharon McNeely. Mr. Felmley worked as an Electrician at Nashville Airport. He is survived by his wife, Robyn Duffey-Felmley of Smithville; step-daughter, Taylor Emerson- of Raytown, Missouri; parents, Michele “Mike” and Tim Scott of Marble Hill, MO.; 2 brothers, Brian Scott of Sherman, TX., and Tim Scott, JR. of Sun City, CA.; sister, Jenel Worby of Hesperia, CA.; several nieces and nephews also survive. The family have honored Mr. Felmley’s request to be cremated. A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
