Wallace Dale Caldwell

November 2, 2021

Wallace Dale Caldwell age 68 of Smithville, passed away Monday morning November 1, 2021 at the Tri-Star Centennial Medical Center in Nashville. He was born February 1, 1953 to his parents, the late L. D. and Cloie Bell Gay Caldwell. He was a current member of the Smithville Fire Department for 17 years where he served as the Chaplain, member of Tennessee Federation of Fire Chaplains, former member of the DeKalb County Fire Department for 7 years, former Instructor at TN Fire and Codes Enforcement Academy for 6 and half years, former member of the Smithville Planning Commission, U.S. Navy Veteran, member of Bright Hill United Methodist Church, former Pastor of Pine Bluff, New Union, and Bybee’s Chapel United Methodist Churches and current Pastor of Elmwood and Mt. Zion United Methodist Churches. Funeral services for Wallace Caldwell will be held 1:PM Thursday November 4, 2021 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bros. Nathan Thomason, and a Chaplain with the Tennessee Federation of Fire Chaplains officiating and burial to follow in the Cannady Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Wednesday 3:PM until 7:PM and Thursday 10:AM until the time of the service at 1:PM. He is survived by his wife of 50 years Carolyn Caldwell of Smithville; 2 Daughters: Kitty (Tony) Thomas, Tiffany Caldwell (Narrece Dowell) both of Smithville; Grandchildren: Xavier Dowell, Carly Thomas, Nataliyah Dowell; 2 Sisters: Libby (Larry) Gibbs of Smithville, Freda (Gene) Lumby of South Dakota; 1 Brother: David (Rita) Caldwell of Smithville; Sister-in-law: Jane Gay of Smithville; Brothers-in-law: Steve Ritchie, Jimmy (Marie) Luna both of Smithville; Several nieces and nephews also survive. The Funeral Home lounge is closed at this time and no food or drinks are allowed in the funeral home. In addition to flowers, the family asked that donations be made to DeKalb Funeral Chapel to help with funeral expenses. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Linda Carol Pursell

November 1, 2021

Mrs. Linda Carol Pursell, age 67 of Liberty, passed away on Sunday evening, October 31, 2021 at Tri Star Summit Medical Center.

Linda was born on April 20, 1954 in Albany, KY to her parents, the late Andy and Zora Slaven. She was a member of Salem Baptist Church and loved working in the yard in her flower garden, crafting, and antiques.

The funeral service will be on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at 2pm at Salem Baptist Church in Liberty with burial following in Salem Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be on Tuesday from 4-8pm and on Wednesday from 10am until the time of service at 2pm. All visitation and services will be at the church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Glen Slaven, Bruce Slaven, and Bobby Slaven.

Survivors of Mrs. Pursell include her husband of 50 years, Dale Pursell of Liberty; 1 son and daughter-in-law, Chris (Brandi) Pursell of Liberty; 1 grandson, Cameron Pursell of Liberty; 1 brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth “Dooks” (Lori) Slaven of Byrdstown; 2 sisters and brothers-in-law, Diane (Donnie) Fults of McMinnville, and Jewell (Max) Barney of Smithville; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Paul (Jean) Neal of Liberty, Dale (Marie) Malone of Mt. Juliet, and JT (Peggy) Pursell of Liberty.

Dawn Ellen Mingle

October 29, 2021

Dawn Ellen Mingle of Smithville, age 59, passed away October 23, 2021 at her residence. She was born April 27, 1962 to her parents Sherril Enroughty and Ellen Kennon. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Mingle; daughter, Misty Dawn Watson. She worked in Offices/Clerical and she was a Baptist. Ms. Mingle is survived by 3 sisters, Sherril Cunningham of Smithville, Toni Cozart of Hixon, and Diane Oliver of Richmond, VA.; son, Michael Kenneth Mingle of Nashville; 3 granddaughters, Selena Watson, Angel Watson, and Jaylee Watson; nieces and nephews, Jenny Byrum, Kenny Cozart, Dustin Wilson, Kristy Oliver, and Jeff Oliver. Graveside will be Saturday October 30, 2021 at Christ Church Memorial Gardens in Nashville at 2:00PM with Bro. Michael Hale officiating. There will not be any service or visitation at the funeral home. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.




Jerry Clayton Comfort

October 29, 2021

Jerry Clayton Comfort age 70 of Smithville, passed away Thursday evening October 28, 2021 at St. Thomas Midtown Hospital in Nashville. He was born June 21, 1951 to his parents, the late William A. and Vernie Mae Byford Comfort, Jr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 1 brother, William G. Comfort and a brother-in-law, Earl Dyer. Jerry was a factory worker and truck driver. He attended the Smithville First Assembly of God, where he helped with the church vans and maintaining the church. Jerry was a community volunteer at Edgar Evins State Park and at God’s Food Pantry. He is survived by 2 sisters, Carolyn Dyer and Barbara Comfort both of Smithville; sister-in-law, Goldie Comfort of Williamstown, NJ; niece, Charlotte (Crystal) Malone of Sparta; nephew, David (Linda) Comfort of Williamstown, NJ; great-nephew, William Comfort; several cousins also survive. Funeral services will be 2 PM Monday, November 1, 2021 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bros. Iain Swisher and Michael Hale officiating and burial will follow in DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday 10:AM until the time of the service at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to DeKalb Funeral Chapel to help with funeral expenses, in memory of Jerry. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




James Ivey Stewart

October 28, 2021

James Ivey Stewart, age 71, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 21, 2021 at Riverpark Hospital in McMinnville.

James was born on September 19, 1950 in Nashville,TN to his parents, the late Robert Lee Stewart & Elsie Pauline Hall Mayton. Also preceding him in death was his brother, Milton “Bo” Stewart, 2 Sisters, Elsie McEwen & Rebecca Stewart and Bro-In-Law, James Matthews. Mr. Stewart was a truck driver.

A Graveside Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at 11am at DeKalb Cemetery. No services or visitation will be held at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Family & friends will gather at the cemetery for the services at 11am.  

Survivors include 2 sons, James Ivey Stewart II and William Stewart, Grandson James Ivey Stewart III all of Virginia, Mother of his children, Janice Stewart of Virginia, 2 sisters, Darlene Matthews of Gassaway and Tammy (Bert) Bailey of Campton, 2 brothers, Robert Stewart of White Bluff & Jonathan Stewart of Sevierville, special niece & nephew, Priscilla (Bobby) Mingle of Smithville and Chris (Dana) Stanley of Gassaway. Several nieces, nephews & cousins also survive.

Joyce Page Adams

October 27, 2021

Joyce Page Adams, age 88 of Winchester, passed away on Wednesday, September 29, 2021, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Lancaster, Tennessee on October 29, 1932, to the late Charlie Haskell and Hattie Nell (Winnard) Page. In 1941 the Pages moved to Smithville, and she spent her childhood as one of nine siblings on the family farm.

Joyce is survived by her loving husband of sixty-six years, Gerald Dwain Adams; two children and their spouses, Cheryl Page Adams (Harry Evart Palmer) of Washington, Texas, and Jeffrey Dwain (Kimberly Acree) Adams of Lincoln University, Pennsylvania; and four grandchildren, Hunter Thomas (Caitlin Burkhart) Adams of Downingtown, Pennsylvania, Chase Alexander Adams of Honey Brook, Pennsylvania, Sean Pierce Adams of Lincoln University, Pennsylvania, and Caroline Jane Adams of Lincoln University, Pennsylvania. She is also survived by five siblings, Bobbye Jean Page Thomas of Smithville, Annetta Ruth Page (Warren) Johns of Lorton, Virginia, Glen Harold (Mary Lynn) Page of Smithville, Billy Richard (Nancy) Page of Eatonton, Georgia, and Faye Page Sandosky of Smithville, and many beloved nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Roy Garland Page, Dennis Brown Page, and Nellie Frances Page Hensley.

Visitation will be from 2-3 pm on Saturday, October 30, 2021, at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home at 300 First Ave NW, Winchester, TN. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 pm in the Moore-Cortner Chapel with Dr. Joseph Butler officiating. Online condolences may be offered at www.moorecortner.com.
