John Roy Marler age 76 of Smithville, passed away Monday, June 14, 2021 at NHC HealthCare Center in Smithville. He was born January 28, 1945 in Watertown, to his parents, the late Rob Roy and Vaughtie Vantrease Marler. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by father-in-law and mother-in-law, Rob and Elizabeth Mayton; sister, Peggy Taylor; niece, Lisa Snider and nephew, Donnie Anderson. He was a Baptist and a painter. John loved the outdoors. He is survived by his family, whom he loved dearly, wife, Sheryl Marler of Smithville; daughter, Samantha (Rickey) Baines of Gordonsville; grandson, Zachary Baines; 2 sisters, Linda Shehane and Mary Ann (Chuck) Chilcutt both of Lebanon; brother-in-law, Daryl (Diana) Mayton of Rockwood; nieces and nephews, Tina Angle, Randy (Tracey) Carson, Shelley (Roy) Brown, Ricky (Ann Marie) Anderson, Allen (Shelby) Shehane, Pam McAteer, Kim (Joe) Stewart, Beau (Kendra) Mayton and Brianna (Clint) Moore and several great-nieces and nephews that loved him. The family has honored John’s request to be cremated and a Memorial Service will be held 1 PM Friday, June 25, 2021 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Pastor Kim Slickmeyer and Bro. Michael Hale officiating. Visitation with the family will be on Friday June 25th 11:AM until the time of the memorial service at 1 PM. Due to Covid-19 the funeral home lounge is closed and no food or drinks are allowed in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or to the charity of your choice, in memory of John. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Janet Lynn Boatman Ashford age 60 of Smithville, passed away Sunday morning, June 13, 2021 at her residence. She was born November 14, 1960 to her parents, the late Larry Austin and Emma Elaine Tipton Boatman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Randy Boatman. She worked for over 13 years in housekeeping at Evins Mill Retreat. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, James Ashford of Smithville; 4 children, Michelle Hume and Chris Myers both of Sparta, Melissa Edmonds (Neal Young of Smithville and Kimberly (Jeremy) Reedy of Woodbury; 9 grandchildren, Gidean, Gabriel, and Gaige Hume, Austin and Justin Myers, Makayla, Matthias and Raivah Reedy and Jackson Ashford; 2 step-children, Alicia Curtis and Ricky Ashford, Jr.; 3 brothers, Larry “Eddie” Boatman of Pleasant View, TN, Carl “Toby” Harris of Mississippi, Jonathan “Scott” Brasfield of Sparta; 2 sisters, Laura Archer of Arkansas and Tammy Jenkins of Mississippi. Funeral services will be 11:AM Thursday, June 17, 2021 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Dan Gulley officiating. Graveside services will be 3:PM Thursday at Hilltop Cemetery in Centerville, TN. Visitation will be Thursday 9:AM until the time of the service at 11:AM. Due to Covid-19, the funeral home lounge is closed and no food or drinks are allowed in the funeral home. Teresa Diane Banks- Mitchell age 67, of Alexandria, TN, went home to the Lord May 26, 2021 . She was born in North Carolina March 20, 1954. She is preceded in death by her parents Cecil Cline Banks and Shirley Ann Reid Banks and her brothers Doyle, Dean and Danny Banks and her husband Ronnie Mitchell .
Teresa is survived by her daughter Shirley Stubblefield, her nieces, Kim(Bryan) Warden & Jessica(Vance) Thompson, her grandchildren; Dale Stubblefield, Josh Heady,Shawn (Tia) Smith, Mary Belle Mofield, Aj Mofield and Hope Mofield, a great-grandson Rain Smith, along with several great nieces and nephews.
She was a loving individual who loved God, family and animals and who was passionate about children’s happiness, animal care, country music, and old cars. She worked for several years at Nashville Wire and Lealco.
A graveside service is scheduled to be conducted on Tuesday June 15, 2021 at 1PM at the Hillview Memorial Cemetery in Alexandria, TN. Avant Funeral home is in charge of the service. Mrs. Treva E. White, age 82 of Smithville, TN passed away on Friday, June 11, 2021 at her home.
Mrs. White was born on June 14, 1938 in Sparta, TN to her parents, the late Bethel & Beatrice Greene Cantrell. Also preceding her in death was her son, Steve White & a grandchild, Bryan White. Step Brothers, TJ, Ray Lee, Lloyd & Cecil Cantrell. She had been a Headstart Teacher and was a 70 year member of the Smithville Church of God.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, June 14, 2021 at 3pm from the chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Bro. Chris Moore & Bro. Bill Robertson will officiate with burial to follow at Bonham Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held on Monday from 1:30pm until the service time at 3pm. The family asks that anyone attending the visitation or funeral services to please wear a mask.
Survivors include her husband of 66 years, W.J. “Dub” White of Smithville, TN. 4 Sons, Thomas (Tammy) White of Smithville, TN, Paul White of Smithville, TN, Mark (Virginia) White of Gallatin, TN & David White of Smithville, TN. Daughter-in-law, Lou Ann White of Smithville, TN. 9 Grandchildren & 9 Great Grandchildren. Sister, Ethalene (J.D.) Pedigo of Smithville, TN.

Shirley Ann Joslyn age 77 of Smithville passed away Monday night June 7, 2021 at her residence. She was born April 1, 1944 to her parents, the late Dub and Florence Davenport Prater. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Ann Cantrell; grandson, Jacob Cantrell and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Chuck and Betty Walker. Shirley was saved as a young girl and was a Baptist. She worked in housecleaning and was also a babysitter. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 55 years, Raymond Eugene Joslyn of Smithville; daughter, Alice (Paul) Hutchens of Smithville; son-in-law, Ricky Cantrell of Smithville; grandchildren, Ashley (Raymond) Lippart, Andrew (Gennie) Hutchens, Tiffany (Bobby) Price, Bridget (Rainy) Howell, Matthew Cantrell, Hayle (Anthony) Cantrell, and Jade Cantrell; great-grandchildren, Raymond Lippart, IV, Haven Howell, Rainy Howell, Jr, Raleigh Cantrell and Alexander Mofield. Funeral services will be 11:AM Friday June 11, 2021 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Michael Hale officiating and burial will follow at DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday 4 PM until 7 PM and Friday 9:AM until the time of the service at 11:AM. Mr. Thomas Richard Squires, age 63 of Smithville, TN passed away on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at his residence.
Mr. Squires was preceded in death by his father, Robert Squires; brother, Robert Squires, II; and a daughter, Alexis Squires.
The family has chosen direct cremation.
Survivors include 4 daughters, Heather Heraty, Mickey Gidley, and Madison Squires all of Michigan, and Joleen Squires of Smithville; 2 sons, Thomas Squires, Jr. and Daniel Squires both of Michigan; 2 stepdaughters, Mary Perrin of Smithville, and Kristel Bush of Murfreesboro; mother, Joan Squires of Michigan; 16 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild; brothers and sisters, David Squires, Marcia Furby, Mary Salais, Barbara Cuddie, Pam Crane, and John Squires; significant other of 22 years, Linda Knowles of Smithville.
