Grady Seldon George, Sr.

Grady Seldon George, Sr., age 95, of Woodbury passed away Friday, August 17, 2018 at Centennial Medical Center. Grady was born on October 25, 1922 to the late Sammy & Jennie Tate George in the Gassaway Community of Cannon County.
Survivors include his children, David (Joan) George of Bradyville, Jana (Cliff) Reigle of Woodbury, Grady (Carol) George, Jr. of Woodbury, Faye (Allen) Morse of Gassaway, & Beth (Michael) Palombo of Woodbury; Brother, Frelan (Judy) George of Manchester; Sister-in-law, Myra (Jim) Kastor of Statesville, NC; Grandchildren, Micheal (Beth) George & Kevin (Katina) George, both of Bradyville, Amy Parker & Jamie Slatton, both of Woodbury, James (April) Hines of Murfreesboro, Michelle (Travis) Walker of Pleasant View, TN, Angela (Josh) Cossey of Woodbury, Alana (Matt) Quarles of Dowelltown, Dana (Dave) Brown of Murfreesboro, & Samuel Palombo of Marietta, GA; Great Grandchildren, Andrea (Jackie) Myers, Heather (Evan) Sharp, Nathan (Brittany) George, Cole & Cassie George, Jacob Schwartz, Chelsey Crisp, Will (Shellie) Parker, Haley Schwartz, Dillon Parker, Katie Slatton, Kinley Phelps, Bo Parker, Weston Slatton, Michaela Miron, Paige Walker, Loren Hines, Libby Hines, Gage Walker, Lucas Hines, Whitleigh Cossey, Hayden, Colt, & Madison Quarles, & Harper Grace Brown.
Great Great Grandchildren, Lucy & Daisy George, Bryson Myers, Camyrn Sharp, Lillie Schwartz, Ada Parker, Cadence Crisp, Haze Parker, Cain Parker, Hallie Parker, Oakland Parker, Avanell Parker, Davlie Lavender, Tynslie Lavender, & Declan Miron.
In addition to his parents, Mr. George was preceded in death by his wife, Avanell Jones George; and Siblings, Nina Campbell, Inez Bogle, Ernestine Tate, Betty Ledna, Medford George, & Howard George.
Grady was a member of the Methodist Church and was a farmer. He was a Veteran of the Army where he was a Master Sgt. and served in World War II. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart. Mr. George was a member of the Cannon County Walking Horse Association & the Cannon County Soil Conservation.
Funeral Services will be 2 PM Tuesday, August 21, 2018 in the Chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home with Bros. Frelan George, Bobby Nichols, & David George officiating. Interment will follow at Leoni Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Monday, August 20, 2018 from 2 PM to 9 PM.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Dr. Gregory Ernest Ray

52-year-old Dr. Gregory Ernest Ray of Clarksville, formerly of Smithville, passed away Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at St. Thomas West Hospital in Nashville. He was an Optometrist and a member of the Hilldale Baptist Church in Clarksville. The funeral service will be at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 19, 2018 at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Dr. Larry Robertson and Brother Darrell Cantrell will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be Friday in Clarksville from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 at Hillsdale Baptist Church, Saturday at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home from 12:00 noon until 8:00 p.m., and on Sunday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 3:00 p.m. Survivors include his wife, Amanda Odom Ray of Clarksville; children, Nicholas Odom Ray and Allie Jane Ray of Clarksville; and parents, Ernest and Elene Ray of Adams, Tennessee. In addition to flowers, a donation can be made to a college fund for Nicholas and Allie Ray.
Esther Milagros (Munoz) Reader (Estep) Ogg

Esther Milagros (Munoz) Reader (Estep) Ogg passed Monday, August 13, 2018 after fighting a year and a half, stage four non alcohol related liver cancer.
Esther was born December 19, 1943 in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico to the late Leonidas Valentine Reader of Tyrone, Pennsylvania and her birth father, the late Reinaldo Munoz of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico.
She was also preceded in death by her husband Michael Ogg, SR of Greenwood Lake/Middletown, New York and more recently her father Fredrick E. Reader of Tyrone, Pennsylvania.
Esther is survived by her daughter’s, Sandra (Estep) and Allan Bollin of Smithville, Tennessee and Shelley (Estep) and Michael Pinero of Clark Summit, Pennsylvania. Grandsons, Robert McGinnis, Sr. of Newburgh, New York, Christopher Bednar and Jonathan Pinero of Clark Summit, Pennsylvania and Shaun McGinnis of Smithville, Tennessee, and Seven Great, Great grandchildren. Her beloved dogs, Teddy, Missy, Sophie, and Copper.
Her first job was as a Secretary at the Tyrone Paper Mill. She also worked at Star Expansion in Mountainville, New York. Then she was a police dispatcher for the Town of New Windsor, then a Secretary for the State of New York Police crime lab. Then various positions at Kelly Army Hospital, West Point, New York from which she retired from. She was active in both COVAC and NEWVAC where she held various line and executive positions.
The best time she had since her diagnosis was when Mindy Erden of Newburgh, New York brought down Simon Mohr, Logan and Jake Erden, Robert Jr., and Abbygail McGinnis from New York. She loved when the kids called her GG.
She moved to Smithville, Tennessee in March 2005 from Greenwood Lake with her late husband and loved the town and its weather. She loved sitting on the porch and especially in summer watching the sunsets and the hummingbirds. She was bowled over by the solar eclipse in August, 2017. She loved technology and had computers before they were connected to the internet to play solitaire which she now does on her mini iPad or smart phone. She had beautiful penmanship. She liked Spanish, Puerto Rican and Cuban foods of her childhood but could eat her weight in burgers. Thursday was her favorite day of the week. It was Thursday Baby on the news and clean sheet day.
The family would like to thank Tennessee Oncology, Sarah Cannon Research, Avalon Hospice, Dr. Kevin Rhody, NHC, Buckeye Supplies, Hospice Service, Webb Pharmacy, and all their support staff who helped during this long hard journey.
The family is honoring her request to be directly cremated and no service is planned. A bio urn and tree will be planted at home in the spring. Donations may be made to Final Care Cremation Services to help with funeral expenses.
Jerry Foster

Coach Jerry “Red” Foster age 59 of Smithville passed away Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at his residence. He was born October 2, 1958 to his parents, the late, Elbert Les and Frances Lorene Kelly Foster. He served as freshman boys’ coach from 1983-89 compiling a 92-22 record. He then moved to Jackson County High School as head boys’ coach from 1989-93 compiling a 101-87 record in four seasons, before returning once again to DCHS to direct the Lady Tiger basketball program, a position he held for seven years, from 1993-2000 with his teams recording a 93-85 record. After leaving the coaching ranks, he continued to teach physical education at Northside Elementary School and continued to teach the game of basketball to youth of DeKalb County through the after school program, he also taught several years at DeKalb West School. He was a member of the Buckner’s Chapel United Methodist Church. He leaves to cherish his memory, 2 children, Jalon Wayne Foster (Kelsey Roberts) of Sparta and Loren (Will) Martin of Huntsville, AL; 1 sister, Brenda Kay Driver of Smithville; 1 brother, Prentice (Jan) Foster of Sparta; 1 nephew, Chad (Tara) Driver of Smithville; 2 great-nieces, Caroline and Lillie Cate Driver and a host of fellow teachers, friends and children with whom he made a lifetime impact on their lives. Funeral services celebrating Coach Foster’s life will be held 2:00 PM Friday, August 17, 2018 at the DeKalb County High School Gymnasium with Bros. Phil Tollett and Bryan Simmons officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel and Friday 12:30PM until the time of the service at 2 p.m. at DeKalb County High School. Burial will be in the Peeled Chestnut Cemetery in White County. In addition to flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Coach Jerry Foster Memorial Fund that has been established in his memory for a scholarship to be given to a graduating DCHS student, those donations can be made at the funeral home. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Edward Knight, Jr.

Edward Knight, Jr. age 52 of Smithville passed away Friday morning, August 10, 2018 at his residence. He was born September 27, 1965 to his parents, Tina Norris Knight and the late Edward Knight, Sr. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by an infant son, James Dalton Knight. He worked at Tenneco Automotive and a U.S. Air Force veteran. He is survived by 2 children, Mica Knight of McMinnville and Sabastian Knight of Smithville; mother, Tina Knight of Smithville; 2 sisters, Jennifer (Greg) Srabian of Boca Raton, FL and Angela (Timothy) Banks of Smithville; nieces and nephews, Jason Sturdivant, Anthony Hasseman, Autumn Banks, Richard, Mary and John Srabian and other extended family. Funeral services will be conducted 1:PM Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Michael Hale officiating and burial will follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be on Tuesday 6:PM until 8:PM and Wednesday 9:AM until the time of the service at 1:PM. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
