Dorothy Jane Nardone

Dorothy Jane Nardone age 66 of Smithville and a native of Florida, passed away Wednesday morning, August 8, 2018 at her residence. She was born January 24, 1952 to her parents, the late, William Poppell and Jennie Randolph. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 3 siblings, Alice Bailey, Jimmy Ray and Elizabeth Ray. She was a homemaker and a member of the St. Anastasia Catholic Church. She leaves to cherish her memory, 1 son, William Morris of Port St. Lucie, FL; 2 daughters, Michele Nardone and Rosina Nardone both of Smithville; 3 grandchildren, Jonathan Morris and his wife Ashley, Giavanti Nardone, Marlee Nardone; 2 great-grandchildren, Colton and Owen Morris; 8 siblings, Shirley Engman, Betty Dupree, Kenneth Ray, Bobby Ray, Pat Crowe, Mona Lincoln, Debbie Dugan and Billy Poppell. The family has honored Ms. Dorothy’s request to be cremated and no services are planned. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Ray Morris Webb

77-year-old Ray Morris Webb of Franklin passed away Friday, August 3, 2018 at his residence. He was a retired insurance agent and a member of the Smithville First Baptist Church. A Memorial Service will be at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 12, 2018 at Smithville First Baptist Church. Visitation with the family will be Sunday at the church from 2:00 p.m. until the service at 3:00 p.m.

Mr. Webb was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Clara Belle Calhoun Webb; sisters, Jo Evelyn Underhill and Janelle LaFever; and mother of his children, Virginia Anne Holland Webb. Survivors include his son, Kevin Sloan and Melissa Morrison Webb of Franklin; daughter, Lisa Monet’ Webb and Kenith Leon Robins of Murfreesboro; sister, Ina Ruth Bess of Smithville; nephews, Tony and Tina Bess and Greg and Malissa Bess of Smithville; Roger and Rita Underhill of Livingston; Norman and Carol Underhill of Smithville; Carlon and Suzanne LaFever of Soddy-Daisy; and Ray Donald and Jeanne LaFever of Nashville.

Mr. Webb loved his children, grandchildren and sisters very much. He especially loved his mother and father. He often said “Everything I have or will ever be I owe to Mama and Daddy. My sisters and I are truly blessed for having them as parents.”

Memorial donations may be made to the DeKalb County Animal Coalition.

Reverend Robert Jewell Presley

August 8, 2018

84 year old Reverend Robert Jewell Presley of Smithville passed away Tuesday at his residence. He was a minister for 55 years and a member of the Peoples Pentecostal Church. The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Jason Nunley, Thomas Hewell, and Timothy Simmons will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4-8 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. until the service at 2 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elijah Joseph and Shelly Lawrence Presley; daughter, Patsy Ann Rachel; a son, Robert Dwayne Presley; grandsons, Robert Jewel Presley and Richard Justin Presley; son-in-law, Timothy Corey; and four brothers and two sisters. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Eula Lawson Presley of Smithville. Seven daughters, Phyllis and James Brown of Sparta, Jackie and Larry Worley of North Carolina, Linda and Thomas Theiss of Smithville, Evie and Jeffery Miller of Ohio, Pamela Corey of Smithville, Teresa and Timothy Simmons of Illinois, and Babbie Presley of Smithville. Twenty four grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren, and 27 great great grandchildren survive along with a brother, Donald and Joy Presley of Columbus. James Reuben Hale

August 6, 2018

Mr. James Reuben Hale age 85 of McMinnville, TN, died Saturday, August 04, 2018, at St. Thomas Midtown Hospital in Nashville, TN. He was born September 11, 1932, in Smithville, TN, was a retired machinist with Ford Motor Company, a veteran with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, member of Ezel Masonic Lodge No. 381, Order of the Eastern Star Lodge No. 349, and Long Mountain The Baptist Church. Mr. Hale was preceded in death by parents Skiler and Cora Hathaway Hale, daughter Frances Hale, son Gary Hale, sister Willie Pauline Hale, and brothers Bernice Hale and Wilbert Hale.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law Barbara and Stuart Abramson, grandchildren Stacey, Shelby, and Ryan Abramson, great-grandchild Blake Abramson, and very special friend Janice Johnson. Other family members and friends also survive.

Funeral service will be at 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 08, 2018, in the McMinnville Funeral Home Chapel. Elder Tim Baker will officiate. Interment will follow at Whorton Springs Cemetery in Smithville, TN. Military grave rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 173 and V.F.W. Post 5064. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 11:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M. and again Wednesday from 11:00 A.M. until 3:00 P.M. at the parlors of McMinnville Funeral Home. A masonic service will be conducted Tuesday evening at 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home by Ezel Masonic Lodge No. 381.

Michael Ray Roysden

August 6, 2018

49 year old Michael Ray Roysden of Smithville passed away Sunday at the Sarah Cannon Hospital. He was retired from the Navy and as a Maintenance Mechanic with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. A memorial service will be Saturday, August 11 at 11 a.m. at the Silver Point Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Billy Roysden. Survivors include his wife, Michelle Roysden. One son, Allen Michael Roysden of Murfreesboro and a daughter, Sarah Michelle Roysden of Smithville. Mother, Evelyene Roysden of Jamestown. A brother, Ricky and Diane Roysden of Jamestown and a sister, Pam Conner of Albany, Kentucky. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.




Orgie Lee “O.L.” Stanley

Orgie Lee “O.L.” Stanley of Smithville passed away Thursday morning August 2, 2018 at NHC Healthcare in Smithville.  He was born March 22, 1939 to his parents the late Robert and Sarah Ferrell Stanley.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by son Larry Stanley and several brothers and sisters.  Mr. Stanley was a construction worker and Christian.  Survivors include Son: Donnie (Kathy) Stanley of Sparta; Daughters: Brenda (Jeff) Taylor, Sandy Atnip both of Smithville; Grandchildren: Donnie Stanley, Jr., Tonyia Sparks, Colleen Clary, Matt Stanley, Katrena Miller, Karen France, David Taylor, Ricky Atnip Jr., Brandon Atnip, Christopher Atnip; Sisters: Barbara Ann Tucker of Manchester, Josephine Butcher of McMinnville, Etta Mae Williams of Woodbury; 18 Great-Grandchildren and 1 Great-Great Grandchild. Caregiver, Linda Sutton and several nieces and nephews and friends. Funeral services for Mr. Stanley will be held 10 AM Saturday at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bros. Mike Clayborn and Michael Hale officiating and burial to follow in DeKalb Cemetery.  Visitation with the family will be held Friday  3 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. until the time of service at 10 a.m.  DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
