Orvil E. Hendrix

November 11, 2023

Orvil E. Hendrix, age 82 of Dowelltown, passed away at his residence on Saturday, November 11, 2023. He was an insurance agent and a member of Whorton Springs Baptist Church.

Mr. Hendrix was born on May 21, 1941 in Smithville, TN to his parents, the late Burley and Ruby Kilgore Hendrix. He was also preceded in death by 2 brothers, John Hendrix and Erie Hendrix.

The family will have a graveside service on Monday, November 13, 2023 at 2pm at DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Bro. Larry Cripps will officiate.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Wanda Cripps Hendrix ; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Phillip (Holly) Hendrix and Bradley (Lori) Hendrix; 6 grandchildren, Jailyn Bolding, Holden Hendrix, Grayson Hendrix, Jacob Hendrix, Jon Hendrix, and Emmaline Hendrix all of Dowelltown; 1 sister, Mildred Suffridge of Smithville; 4 brothers and sisters-in-law, Doyle (Faye) Hendrix of Alexandria, Tucker (Carol) Hendrix of Smithville, Ricky (Kathy) Hendrix of Dowelltown, and Farron (Gayla) Hendrix of Smithville; sister-in-law, Faye West; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Whorton Springs Baptist Church in memory of Mr. Orvil.

Billy “Bill” Everett Harris

November 8, 2023

Funeral services for Billy “Bill” Everett Harris 91 of Clarksville will be Sunday, November 12 at 2 PM at the Baxter Chapel of Hooper Huddleston Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Smellage Memory Gardens in the Boma Community of Putnam County. The family will receive friends Sunday from 12 Noon until service time at the funeral home. Bro. Tim Sharp will officiate.

Mr. Harris died Tuesday Morning, November 7, 2023 at Tennova Healthcare in Clarksville, TN.

He was born December 16, 1931 in Virginia to the late Roy Lee and Alma Mae Ingle Harris.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lee Oma Carr Harris on September 25, 2022, a son Marlon “Marty” Harris.

Bill retired from General Motors in Livonia, Michigan with over 35 years of service. He and Lee Oma (a Silver Point Native) moved back to Smithville in 1988.

He enjoyed woodworking and carving and won many ribbons for his walking sticks. Bill and Lee Oma enjoyed the Smithville Jamboree each year and Smithville Sr. Citizens until their health declined. He enjoyed taking care of his farm animals and his dog, Scooter. He was an animal lover.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law Jill and Jim Somerville, grandson Sean Somerville all of Clarksville, brother James (Gloria) Harris of Ringgold, GA, several nieces and nephews.

Tammy Denise West

November 8, 2023

Tammy Denise West age 57 of McMinnville, formerly of Smithville, passed away November 4, 2023, at St. Thomas Hospital West in Nashville. A native of Cannon County, Tammy was born January 13, 1966, to her parents the late Edwina Ferrell and William Morris. She was also preceded in death by her beloved grandparents, Jess and Lily Ferrell. Tammy was a member of Martin’s Chapel Fellowship and was a Homemaker. Tammy was a loving wife, beloved mother and devoted grandmother. She was a person who never met a stranger and would help anyone in need. Her smile and laughter will be missed by anyone who knew her. Her unexpected death has placed a huge hole in her family’s hearts. Tammy is survived by her husband, Charles West; children, Shannon Ray Herman, Shane Miller, Jessica Ray, Holly (Ryan) Whaley and Ashley (Jonathan) Morris; brother, Willian “Bud” Morris; sister Kathy McDaniel; daughter-in-law, Heidi Herman; grandchildren, Christian, Lydia, Madison, Bethany, Tabitha, Jeremiah, Kayleb, Taylor, Noah, Aadyn and Levi, Chloe, Colton, Sam, Owen, and Mason; her faithful fur babies, Littleman and Jack; lifelong friend, Linda Kennedy; special son, Cortney Bradshaw; and other extended family members and many friends. Her family has honored her wishes to be cremated with a brief Memorial Service to be announced at a later date, with Carol Ann Richardson officiating. Christopher Wayne Cass

Christopher Wayne Cass age 35, of Smithville passed away Sunday November 5, 2023, at his residence. He was born March 15, 1988, to his parents, Jerry Cass and Felicia Pennington Woodard. He was preceded in death by his Maternal grandparents, Leve and Jo Anna Pennington; Paternal grandfather, Gerald Cass. He was a member of the New Union The Baptist Church and was self-employed. Christopher is survived by his mother, Felicia Pennington Woodard of Smithville; father, Jerry Cass of McMinnville; brothers, Daniel and Josh (Jennifer) Summer both of Smithville, and Bo Cass of Georgia; nieces and nephews, Adison, Payton, A.J. and Wyatt Summers; paternal grandmother, Sue Cass of McMinnville; uncles, James Pennington of Smithville and Mike Cass of McMinnville; several other aunts, uncles and cousins also survive. Graveside services will be 11:AM Thursday, November 9, 2023 at Crain Hill Cemetery in McMinnville with Bro. Wendell Judkins officiating. There will not be any visitation or services at the funeral home, family and friends will meet at the cemetery for the graveside service a 11:AM. The family ask in lieu of flowers, donations to be made to DeKalb Funeral Chapel to help with funeral expenses, in memory of Christopher. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.




Judy Carolyn Wiggins

November 6, 2023

Judy Carolyn Wiggins, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a lifetime Dekalb community member, passed away on November 4th, 2023 at the age of 79. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, service, and love that will be cherished forever.

Judy’s life was marked by a deep commitment to all those around her. She served as a respiratory therapist for thirty years at McFarland Hospital and University Medical Center, providing critical care and comfort to countless patients. Following her retirement, she continued her service by dedicating several years to the special needs community within Dekalb County schools.

Judy was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ray, and her eldest son, Kenny. She is survived by her son, Aubrey, daughter, Tonya, and step-daughter, Rose. In addition, she leaves behind a legacy of love and care in her grandchildren, Chrissy, Kayla, Cody, Turner, and Alex, as well as ten great-grandchildren.

Judy’s family and friends will celebrate her life in a funeral service 11:AM Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at Liberty Methodist Church, located at 403 Church St, Liberty, TN with Bro. Wilson Williams officiating and burial will follow in Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday 2PM to 7PM and Tuesday 10AM until the time of the service at 11AM. All Visitation and Services will be at the Liberty Methodist Church.

The family would like to extend their warmest thanks to Hospice of Tennessee for their outstanding care.

Bro. Royce Moore

Rev. Royce Jackson Moore age 92, of Smithville, was born May 23, 1931 to his parents, the late Rev. Thomas Walker and Lillie Mae Waggoner Moore, and went to his Heavenly reward on Saturday afternoon, November 4, 2023.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Ruby Jewel Moore and Reba Page; 3 brothers, Earnest Moore, Rev. David Moore and Thomas Walker Moore, Jr.  He was a longtime member of the New West Point Freewill Baptist Church where he served as Pastor 45 years.  He had the Way of Life radio ministry for 28 years.  He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Ruby Trobaugh Moore of Smithville; 3 children, Eddie (Anita) Moore, Ellen (Jeff) Herrin and Dwight (Angie) Moore all of Smithville; 6 grandchildren, Adam (Bethany) Moore, Andrew (Rachel) Moore, Mitchell (Amanda) Herrin, Carrie (Caleb) Baines, Jacob (Megan) Moore, Caleb (Emily) Moore; 10 great-grandchildren, Ariana Herrin, Maggie, Millie, Franklin, Elizabeth, Eleanor and Rubie Moore, Carson and Charlotte Moore, Ira Baines and baby boy Walker Moore due in February; 1 brother, Rev. Jerry (Donna) Moore and 2 sisters, Nina Hart and Stacy Foster and many additional nieces and nephews.  Visitation will be Sunday 3:pm until 8:pm and Monday 10:am until the time of the service at 1:pm.  Funeral services will be 1:pm Monday at DeKalb Funeral Chapel and burial with Military Honors will be at DeKalb Cemetery.  In addition to flowers, the family requests donations be made to New West Point Freewill Baptist Church, in memory of Bro.
