Barbara Anne Grandstaff Cantrell

Mrs. Barbara Anne Grandstaff Cantrell, age 69 of Alexandria, TN, passed away on Friday, December 16, 2022 at her home.

Barbara was born on October 8, 1953 in Carthage, TN to her parents, the late Carl “Nat” & Lee Midgett Grandstaff. Also preceding her in death is a sister, Joyce Bailiff.

Barbara graduated from DeKalb County High School in May of 1971 and just a few days later, married Hamp Dwayne Cantrell on May 22, 1971. Upon her graduation from high school, Barbara had achieved perfect attendance for her entire 12 years of schooling. All the way from her childhood days at the Alexandria Elementary School till she finished her last year at DeKalb County High School.

Barbara worked for many years in the garment industry in Alexandria. She was employed at Workwear for numerous years until it was bought out by Norvell in later years and she continued there until her retirement.

In 2005, Barbara had to undergo a liver transplant. Through organ donation she received her transplant from Mr Donnie Baker. She was given a 10-year life expectancy and overcame that with the Lord’s blessings to gain 17 ½ more years of life and memories with her family. The family is truly grateful to the Baker family and Barbara joined Donnie in heaven this year on December 16 which is his birthday.

Barbara was a member of Malones Chapel Baptist Church on Walkers Creek. She loved her church family and it was her wishes to be brought back to the church one more time.

Funeral Services are scheduled to be conducted on Monday, December 19, 2022 at 2 pm at Malones Chapel Baptist Church. Bro. Seth Presley will officiate and burial will follow at New Hope Cemetery. Visitation with the Cantrell family will be on Sunday from 3-8pm & on Monday from 11 am until the service time at 2pm.

Survivors include her husband of over 51 years, Hamp Dwayne Cantrell of Alexandria, TN. 2 Daughters, Susan (Matt Moore) Cantrell of Alexandria, TN & Nancy (Sammy) Malone of New Middleton, TN. 4 Grandchildren, Justin (Karissa) Cantrell of Baxter, TN, Phillip (Faith Ricketts) Cantrell of Smithville, TN, Kacie (Brady Driver) Malone & Abby Malone both of New Middleton, TN. Great Grandchild, Theodore Cantrell.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to help with funeral expenses in memory of Mrs. Barbara.

Hellon Beatrice Emberton

December 18, 2022

Hellon Beatrice Emberton age 79 of Smithville, passed away Saturday morning, December 17, 2022 at her residence. She was born October 11, 1943 to her parents, the late Robert Fate and Geneva Rufene Redmon Cantrell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Emberton; sister, Ann (Leon) Barnes; and nephew, Jimmy Irby. Hellon was a member of the Sink Creek Missionary Baptist Church and worked in nursery. She is survived by 3 sisters, Thelma Irby and Linda (Charles) Moseley both of Smithville and Brenda (John) Clark of McMinnville; nieces and nephews, David (Suzette) Barnes, Jason (Beth) Moseley, Tammy (Jim) Plamer, Tina (Daniel) King and Tisha Emberton; several great-nieces and nephews. The family has honored Hellon’s request to be cremated and there will be a Memorial Service 1 PM Friday December 30, 2022 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Michael Hale officiating. Visitation with the family will be on Friday December 30, 2022 12 Noon until the time of the service at 1 PM. The family ask that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to New Union Cemetery. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.




Linda Parker

December 18, 2022

Mrs. Linda Parker, age 71, of Smithville, TN passed away on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at St. Thomas Rutherford.

Mrs. Parker was born on March 26, 1951 in King William’s Town, South Africa to her parents, the late Clarence and Stella Jepson. She was in the Marketing and Human Resource Department of Federal Mogul where she retired. The family has honored Mrs. Linda’s wishes of cremation.

Survivors include her husband Euan Parker of Smithville; stepchildren, Michael Parker of Wyoming and Lesley Leach of Yorkshire, England; 2 grandchildren, Thomas Leach of London, England and Rebecca Leach of Cornwall, England; a host of friends, who she loved like family, also survive. Vickie Lynn Dyal

December 15, 2022

Vickie Lynn Dyal age 55, of Smithville passed away at her residence December 14, 2022. She was born May 24, 1967 to her parents Carl Eugene and Valletta Arlene Keene Brown. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by sister, Teresa Mustain. She was a member of Northside Church of Christ and was a Homemaker. She is survived by husband, Kenny Dyal of Smithville; children, Amanda (Chad) South of Smyrna, Jessica Dyal of Smithville, Kenny Waymon Dyal, JR. of Smithville, Joshua (Cheyenne) Dyal of Smithville; 13 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; siblings, Liz (Junior) Hillis of Viola, Anna (Junior) Redd of FL, Terrell (Inez) Reed of Ky. Terry (Barb) Reed of FL., Darrell, Larry and   Junior Reed all of FL.; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held Monday December 19, 2022 at 1:00PM at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with burial to follow in DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday10:00AM until the time of the service at 1:00PM. The family ask that donations be made to help with the funeral expenses. Tony Alan Williams

December 14, 2022

Mr. Tony Alan Williams age 61 of Smithville, TN passed away Monday morning, December 12, 2022 at St. Thomas Midtown Hospital in Nashville, TN.

Tony was born on December 7, 1961 in Knoxville, TN to his parents, the late Ronald & Betty Williams. Also preceding him in death is his wife, Kippy Williams, 2 brothers and a sister. He was a Truck Driver for Averitt Express and attended Indian Creek Baptist Church. Tony was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting, fishing, camping and even tried his hand at rodeo for a while. Tony dearly loved his church family.

Graveside services and interment will be held on Thursday, December 15, 2022 at 1pm at Whorton Springs Cemetery. Bro. Mike Carpenter will officiate. There will be no visitation held at the funeral home. Family & friends will gather at the cemetery just prior to the services.

Survivors include his best friend, Ms. Jo Doris Adcock of Smithville, TN and a host of friends at Indian Creek Baptist Church.

David Gene Satterfield “Elmo”

December 12, 2022

Mr. David Gene Satterfield “Elmo”, age 45, of Weidman, Michigan formerly of Smithville, TN passed from this life into the eternal rest of his loving Savior on Friday, December 9, 2022 following an extended illness.

He was born September 18, 1977 to his parents, Jamie Lankford and the late Kenneth Leon Satterfield. He was preceded in death by his best friend, Joshua Bryan Caldwell.

Survivors include his loving wife, Denise Faulman Satterfield, of Weidman, Michigan; stepchildren, Blair Vollmer and Nicholas Schultz; grandchild, Alyssandra Schultz; mother, Jamie Lankford of Smithville and brother, Allen Satterfield of Smithville.

He was a very devoted husband, son, brother, and a very true friend to many. He will be forever missed and will be forever remembered. Go rest high on that mountain my love.

Family has chosen direct cremation and a memorial service will be announced at a later date.
