Monetta Tramel McDowell

November 7, 2022

Monetta Tramel McDowell, age 81, passed away quietly at the Sherman Home Hospice of the Valley in Phoenix, Arizona in the early morning of September 28, 2022, with her son Christian by her side. She was born in Smithville, TN February 17, 1941 to her parents, the late Alton and Lena Wiley Tramel. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Alan McDowell and sister, Margaret Tramel. She lived in Smithville until 1961 when she made the brave drive across country to settle in the Los Angeles area. She lived in Glendale, Rocklin and Roseville, CA and in Glendale and Mesa, AZ until the time of her death.

Some of the jobs Monetta held throughout her life were Administrative Assistant, Real Estate Agent, Travel Agent Warner Bros. Records, California Dental Association and owner of a Women’s Clothing Boutique in Auburn, California. This job she loved the most as she traveled the country, visiting shows and looking for unique clothes to buy and sell in her shop. She was Homecoming Queen in 1958, and graduated from DeKalb County High School in 1959 and then attended Middle Tennessee State University. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). She loved gardening, crochet, knitting, photography, reading jewelry making and oil painting and volunteering at her nearby community library when she lived in Roseville, CA.

She is survived by her loving son, Christian Woodhead of Rohnert Park, CA; sisters, Amelia Annette Blair of McKinney, TX, Werdna Carol Moss of Murfreesboro, TN, and Peggy Lou Wilkins of Queens Creek, AZ; brother, Thomas Alton (Linda) Tramel of Montrose, CO; nieces, Lisa Starbird, Salena Lopez (Joel) Tramel, Tracy Simmons, Margaret (Chris) Fecko and Dawn Blair; nephews, John Alton (Christie) Busic, Steve (Kellie) Moss, Greg Moss, Wiley Popovich, Douglas (Lori) Blair; cousins, Paulette McDonald and Tricia Wood.

Funeral services will be held 10:AM Saturday November 12, 2022 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel and burial to follow in Whorton Springs Cemetery. Family and Friends will begin gathering at 9:AM for the service. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.




David Dewayne Summers

November 6, 2022

Mr. David Dewayne Summers age 63 of Smithville TN died Tuesday, November 01, 2022, at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital in Smithville, TN, after fighting an extended illness. He was born August 11, 1959, in Little Rock, AR, was a construction contractor, softball umpire, member of the Oasis Church, and was preceded in death by his parents John David and Barbara Jean Fulmer Summers. He loved fishing, hunting, softball, and football.

Survivors include his wife Julie Lynn Summers, son David (Joni) Summers, son Kyle Summers, grandchildren Autumn Summers and Gavin Summers, step-son Christian Loudermilk, sisters Lisa Summers and Susan Summers, and half-brother Rick Summers. Several nieces, nephews, family members, many friends, and his furry companion Max, also survive.

Memorial service will be at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, November 12, 2022, in the McMinnville Funeral Home Chapel. Steve Breedlove will officiate. The Summers Family will receive friends that day during the visitation from 12:00 P.M. Noon until service time at 1:00 P.M. at McMinnville Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family to help cover funeral expenses.

McMinnville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.




Brian Wayne Bandy

November 4, 2022

Brian Wayne Bandy age 50, passed away November 3, 2022 at his residence in Alexandria. He was born June 1, 1972 to his parents Rebecca Fuson Taylor and the late Jackie Wayne Bandy. In addition to his father he was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Hebron and Frances Bandy and maternal grandfather, Louis Fuson. Mr. Bandy was a member of Faith Congregational Methodist Church and worked at Federal Mogul. He is survived by mother, Rebecca Fuson Taylor (James) of Liberty; sister Katrina Collier (Andy) of Alexandria; grandmother, Reba Fuson of Liberty; nieces and nephews, Brent (Allison) Collier, Matthew Collier (Ashlyn Neil), Tiffany (Taylor) Wood; great nieces and nephews, Danica Collier, Landon Collier, Makenlee Collier, Liam Collier, Harper Wood; half-sister, Chloe Newby. Funeral services will be held Sunday November 6, 2022 at 2:00 PM at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bros. Danny Bandy and Phillip Bandy officiating and burial to follow in DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday November 5, 2022 at 4:00 PM till 7:00 PM and on Sunday 10:00 AM until the time of the service at 2:00 PM. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.




Jimmy Brown “Rooster” Martin

Jimmy Brown “Rooster” Martin age 48 of Alexandria, TN passed away on October 31, 2022 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

Jimmy worked for J and L Tree Service. He enjoyed collecting & working on older automobiles. Pa Rooster was one of his favorite names to be called. His grandchildren were his pride and joy.

He was born on January 4, 1974 in Smithville, TN to his parents the late Brown & Margie Ruth Estes Brown.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 3, 2022 at 2 pm from the chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Bro. Charlie Lawson will officiate with burial following at Banks Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 3 to 8 and on Thursday from 9 until the service at 2.

Survivors include 2 children, Nikki (Jimmy) Martin and Amber Bain, 1 brother, David (Debbie Herman) Martin, 4 grandchildren, Brileigh & Payton Bullard and Brinleigh & Denim Bain, 2 nephews, Gaven (Ashley Parker) Martin and Greg Martin all of Smithville




Betty Jane Moss McMillen

October 31, 2022

Betty Jane Moss McMillen was born on December 23, 1935, to her parents, the late Grady and Johnnie Moss, and departed this life on Saturday night, October 29, 2022, at the age of 86. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert McMillen; 2 sisters, Ruth Dunn and Rose Braswell and a brother, Jim Moss. Betty was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church and attended the Watertown First Baptist Church. She worked at Norvell for 15 years and was a homemaker. She is survived by 3 children, Roberta (Ronnie) Jackson, Teresa (Dennis) Slager and Mike McMillen all of Alexandria; 5 grandchildren, Beth (Eddie) Davis, Rhonda (Jake) Watts, Holly Slager Williams, Stephen (Brandy) Jackson and Jon (Katie) Slager; 9 great-grandchildren, Paige Davis, Arielle (Dee) Smith, Damian (Reagan) Davis, Koby (Summer) Watts, Kelcie Watts, Preston Williams, Lucas Jackson, Livy and Ellie Jon Slager; 2 great-great-grandchildren, Azzie and Adriel Smith; 3 sisters, Ruby Gibbs of Alexandria, Margaret Jackson and Martha Payne both of Brush Creek; sister-in-law, Sue McMillen of Alexandria; brother-in-law, Vic (Debbie) McMillen of Alexandria; several nieces and nephews and special caregivers, Faye Neville and Bea Farmer and Alive Hospice. A Celebration of Life will be held 2 PM Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at Watertown First Baptist Church with Bros. Mike Burns, Gary Rickman and Michael Hale officiating and burial will follow in Hillview Cemetery with Bros. Don Mathis and Ben Putnam officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday 4 PM until 8 PM at Hunter Funeral Home in Watertown and Wednesday 10:AM until the time of the service at 2 PM at the Watertown First Baptist Church. In addition to flowers, the family asks that donations be made to either St. Jude Children’s Hospital or to Sherry’s Run, in memory of Betty. DeKalb Funeral Chapel in Smithville and Hunter Funeral Home in Watertown are in charge of the arrangements.




Peggy Ann Adams

Peggy Ann Adams age 70 of Dowelltown, passed away Friday night, October 28, 2022 at her residence. She was born November 6, 1951 to her parents, the late Charles Edward and Eula Eva Fitzpatrick Guthrie. She had worked as a dietician in a nursing facility, managed a BP Store and later worked at a lead in factory. Peggy was a member of the First Assembly of God in Union City. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Richard Adams of Dowelltown; 2 daughters, Eulajean S Herold of Bolivar, TN and Kimberly G Mayo of Union City, TN; 5 grandchildren, Jerry Darnall, Austin Harshfield, Angelica Greenway, Hunter Elliston and Deacon Osteen; 5 great-great-grandchildren, Zayden, Kadence, Leela, Releigh and Grayson; 2 sisters, Thelma Gladstone of Florida and Norma Childres of Union City, TN; 2 brothers, Johnny Stanford and Thomas Stanford both of Union City, TN. The family has honored Peggy’s request to be cremated and a celebration of life gathering will be held at the family home. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
