Mrs. Judy Fuson age 71 of Smithville, TN passed away on Friday night, October 18, 2024 at the Webb House Retirement Home.
Mrs. Fuson was born on June 2, 1953 in Smithville, TN to her parents, the late J.B. & Ruth Beckwith Taylor. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by an Infant Sister, Diana Taylor; Aunts & Uncles, Clara Nell Taylor, Colleen Snyder, Clyde Taylor, McKinley Jones, W.J. Tramel & Fred Stanley.
Mrs. Fuson was a member of Indian Creek Memorial Baptist Church for 59 years having served in many roles. She was the piano player for over 50 years, served as the church clerk for 26 years, and was a dedicated Sunday School teacher. Mrs. Fuson taught math at DeKalb County High School for 30 years and was the yearbook editor for many years. She was an avid bird watcher and participated in many of the area bird and butterfly counts with some of her fellow school teachers.
After retirement from teaching, she co-authored two highly sought after history books, “Images of America: DeKalb County” & “Under the Lake”. Around 1980, she joined her husband Eddie, along with Billy Redmon, Omrie Allen & Floyd Christian, and began singing with the Calvary Quartet. They traveled middle Tennessee far and wide spreading the gospel in song until their retirement in 2020, with the final group being known as the Calvary Trio or the Fuson Family. At that time, it was Eddie, Judy & Zachary singing together.
Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Eddie Ray Fuson of Smithville, TN. Son, Zachary (Leigh) Fuson of Alexandria, TN. 2 Grandchildren, Landon & Callie Ruth Fuson. Aunts, Marguerite Jones of Liberty, TN, Linda Stanley of Donelson, TN & Jane Tramel of AL. Several cousins & wonderful friends also survive. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful nurses in the Phoenix Wing of the Webb House for the care given to Judy during her time there.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, October 21, 2024 at 1pm from the chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Bro. Ric Lee & Elder. James T. Gibbs will officiate with burial to follow at Taylor Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be on Sunday from 2pm-8pm & again on Monday from 10am until the service time at 1pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Retired Teachers Organization or towards the upkeep of Taylor Cemetery in memory of Mrs. Fuson.
